I just like knowing that while we all sit here and write what we think this young man is or isn’t going to do, he is out there busting his ass everyday to make himself that much better just to prove his own fans wrong. We should be backing this kid, not bashing him.
Who bashed him?
Not sure. I didn’t read most of the stuff. Half of it is really annoying. I was getting sick of everyone thinking they know everything about stats, what it takes to play QB, what he needs to do, what has needs to not do......everyone on here must have been amazing QB’s when they played.
Sounds about right to me. I have said the same thing before, but it won’t change anything. People don’t think they are bashing, but if you can’t say it to the players face, maybe you shouldn’t post it.
I’d call it constructive criticism, not bashing, and I have no doubt the coaching staff has pointed out everything everyone has said on here. Most of the comments regarding his weaknesses are in response to people pointing out his strengths, which naturally elicits a counterpoint. In scrimmages and games he has weaknesses that are easy to see. If he can’t correct those it won’t take long for other teams to exploit them.
Most posters here, including yourself are very good. But when armchair experts are so fixated on the weaknesses of an MSU player, I think it is a crappy approach. Take a look at an earlier post about QB performances against SDSU last year. Most other QB’s performances against SDSU last year were very similar to how Rovig fared. But only a handful of posters even acknowledged the fact that his performance was comparable to the others. Instead, many experts offered opinions on why Rovig was a subpar QB. That sucks. And all these opinions are based on two games of experience as a redshirt freshman. One of those games were against the number 5 team in the country.

Before some of you slam me for “only wanting positive stuff”, look at the 23 pages of content in this thread and tell me how much of it is positive? Shouldn’t at least 50% of the content be positive on a Bobcat forum where our team is expected to do great things next season? Case in point is Jaharie Martin. I posted earlier this year that he was going to be a beast at MSU. Then a poster turns that thread into a debate about being too short! Huh??? Kids not on campus yet and a debate starts about his listed height WITH NO EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY. That sucks. That is a pure negative approach.
100% of the content on any forum should be people's honest opinions without overtly trying to be positive or negative. Then people can discuss issues, persuade, or disagree with other people who are actually saying what they think and why. That's as opposed to discussing what sort of opinion they should or should not have.
Well, that's your opinion...

Pretty sure you said he was too short for FBS.

Here is My post: I saw that he also has a GPA of 3.5. He could be the best pickup of the year. 6’0” and 230. 4.65 forty. Interest from Iliinois and Southern Miss.

Your response: I'll put it this way...if Martin was actually 6'0, he'd be playing P5 football. When he went to camps, they do measurements and testing. He was 5'10 220 and ran a 4.9 40. Now, I'm not complaining about those. It's why we got him, and a 4.9 laser time is probably close to a 4.7 handtime, give or take a tenth.

Did I misinterpret?

And lastly, I have seen exactly zero reports that he is 5’10”. How about showing some proof before putting a kid down? And what kind of point are you trying to make by posting something like that?

Like I said earlier and the point of my post, lots of people fixated on the negative. I post the kid is a stud, and the response is but he is too short. Pathetic.

He is too short and a step slow for Power 5...thats why we got him. If the kid was 6'4 and ran a 4.5, he isn't here right now. That's literally all bobcat99 was trying to say. Let's put it this way...I'm very happy we got a 5'11 freight train, tackling machine LB from Florida and so is bobcat99. Power5 schools get really into the measurables of a prospect and that is how they miss on kids in recruiting. Their loss is our gain. End of discussion.

His point was positive. MSU landed a player who is a better prospect than your typical Bobcat recruit because he failed to check one relatively insignificant box for FBS programs.

You guys are missing the point. We have WAY too much negativity on the board. I made a positive comment about a recruit and the first comment is that he is too short for P5. WTF? Same thing with Rovig.

And Vim has clearly earned credibility on this board, but why do you think he is 5’11”? Almost all the services have him listed at 6’0” or 6’1”. ESPN shows 5’10” but that could be old as they also have him listed playing at his previous high school where he played as a Sophomore: Lake Gibson. He played and graduated from Lakeland.

Gato: A positive point would have been “He was first team all conference (which he was)”. A negative point is “he was too short”. Do you see the difference?

I would suggest you grow some thicker skin so that perfectly benign comments don't send you spiraling into a tantrum about what people may or may not post.

I never said he was too short.

Learn how to read.

Pathetic.
Funny how you leave out the parts where I said how good of a player he is. You have an agenda.

I've seen multiple people say he's 6'1 240 runs a 4.65. Now be honest...with his tape, at his HS program, you think he's here with those measurables? It's not a knock on the kid at all. The only reason we landed him is because he's a touch too short and slow for major programs. And that's great! They missed out and we're prospering. McGhee was the same situation, had he been a couple inches taller, he isn't coming here. It is not a knock, merely an explanation of why a player of his talent would come to MSU. Take everybody else's advice and relax a little.

This is what I had immediately following the sentence about his 40 time.

But if he had that kind of tape, and was 6'0 230 with a 4.65 40, he'd be going to play for the Florida Gators, not us. So I'm thankful, because he's a stud and will start for us for multiple years."

Pure criticism, and negativity right there folks. Really funny how you left that part out. Oh and fwiw, because I wasted my time and went back to look, you didn't call him a stud, those were actually my words. ;)

Just thinking of an analogy. Your neighbor buys a $100,000 Escalade. Loaded. Powerful. Beautiful. Your first comment is that the gas mileage will suck. That sucks.

Ok let me get this straight, Rovig can't throw or run, Martin is too short to even play football, and Adickto likes posts that involve skin thickness. Do I have this straight or do I need more hand cream?

Ok let me get this straight, Rovig can't throw or run, Martin is too short to even play football, and Adickto likes posts that involve skin thickness. Do I have this straight or do I need more hand cream?
I think you've about got the gist of it.

Tantrum? I thought it was pretty well presented. but hey, Grizaddict loves your stuff!

As far as thicker skin, what brought you into this conversation? Maybe you could benefit from your own advice.
You did. Pages ago. When you got upset that I wasn't being positive enough about Rovig.
