Re: Big Sky Football attendance 2017
Do you think Idaho's attendance will increase with their being in the Big Sky? Really didn't think SUU had those numbers. UNC and PSU... wow.

Re: Big Sky Football attendance 2017
Idaho's BSC home attendance in '18 and '19 is problematical. If in 2018 they played something like ISU, Weber, Montana or the CATS and EWU they'd likely be looking at sellouts (16,000). But in '18 they play PSU, Southern Utah, UND and the griz. The griz are a sellout, no question. Southern Utah and UND may have mixed appeal. You'd think PSU might sell well, but PSU doesn't travel well given they don't even draw at home. Maybe folks in the Palouse will recall they knocked off Washington State just a few years ago. In any case, I think regional, conference opponents will work better for them than their recent setup. Look for an overall increase of 25%.RickRund wrote:Do you think Idaho's attendance will increase with their being in the Big Sky? Really didn't think SUU had those numbers. UNC and PSU... wow.

Re: Big Sky Football attendance 2017
Tickets sold and actual attendance are not aligned. Several articles by Griz journalists point out they had less that 18k in attendance per game.
Nebraska (Nebraska???? sold out their spring football game. There will be 92,000 people--actually more--watching a scrimmage than either the Griz or Cats get to show up for five games).
Just for sh*ts and giggles, compare the attendance at the top DII and high school programs to FCS.

One thing is for sure; the Cat/griz game alone had more in attendance than UNC and PSU did for the entire season.

Wow. Is it my imagination or have we closed that gap between us and UM substantially? I seem to remember our attendance used to be half of UM or worse...oedipuss wrote:UM - 141,212 total 23,535 avg

Re: Big Sky Football attendance 2017
Why? Cherry pick all you want. We all know the top attendance wise in I-AA (screw foolerton) and the lower D1 schools are the same. So what? Guess what though. More kids have an opportunity to play athletics at the D1 level than at the 1-AA level. More programs. More support from outside the football program.Mr Lisle wrote:Another look is the bottom FBS vs the top FCS....Cat Grad wrote:Tickets sold and actual attendance are not aligned. As a university administrator, you have a choice. More students participating and parental and alumni support or leech off the state funded portion of the university's budget.
In the present condition, just go to intermurals and club sports.

SUU has a decent fanbase actually, as they've been building a solid program for a few years now. They have one of the better student sections at a non-Montana school in the conference.

Re: Big Sky Football attendance 2017
It's amazing that a state of 2.3 million has two solid FCS programs in Weber State and Southern Utah, a solid mid-major FBS program in Utah State, and two FBS schools that have competed for, and in BYU's case, won 1-A/FBS championships in BYU and Utah. BYU recruits nationally, yes, but they still get a lot of players from Utah, too.CelticCat wrote:SUU has a decent fanbase actually, as they've been building a solid program for a few years now. Is there a better per capita state for football in terms of success of five programs?
Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings
