Congrats coach. You'll be missed. Remember listening to your games when you played for the Outlook Blue Jays. Great player. Better coach.

Chapeau coach Selvig. I couldn't stand you, but that's only because you won all the time with the wrong team.

Re: Selvig....out!
Robin Selvig has had a pretty remarkable career. The guy used to drive me nuts with his sideline theatrics, but I've heard in many ways that he's a great guy. Of course, I would have absolutely loved to see Selvig get a technical foul while coaching, but I'm not sure that ever happened. There's no dispute as to what kind of program he built at UM. It's amazing to look how he's done against Big Sky opponents.
(Not all of these are Big Sky games or teams still in the Big Sky; some of these are just UM's records against opponents)
Boise State 38-12
CS Northridge 10-3
Eastern Washington 71-17
Idaho 41-8
Idaho State 69-8
Nevada 15-1
Northern Arizona 50-11
Northern Colorado 15-6
North Dakota 7-4
Portland State 44-13
Sacramento State 35-3
Southern Utah 11-1
Weber State 65-12
And of course, against MSU, Selvig was 74-19. (Overall, UM leads the series 77-24). MSU did the best against UM compared to anybody else, but his records are impressive.
The guy is a great coach, no doubt about it. I hope he enjoys his retirement and gets to reflect on what he built in Missoula. I doubt that UM or the Big Sky conference will see someone win that many games or stay as long again.

For as much as I despise UM athletics, I always held coach selvig in the highest regard. One of the all time great coaches at any level in any sport. Kudos coach, glad you're gone.

Re: Selvig....out!
I was kinda hoping he would stay too long and run the program into the ground for a few seasons before an awkward departure...but that sure didn't happen. That program is in fine shape. I think over the years, the competition did get better, including MSU, but he had everybody's number.

I noticed that it said the search has begun for a new coach. I'd always heard that It was pretty much a slam dunk that Shannon Cate would replace him when the time came.

You are correct. Shannon Cate is the top pick. At this point the job is hers to take...or lose. I wouldn't think she would steal it......

The State of Montana is Bobcat country.

Re: Selvig....out!
God bless coach Selvig - a great coach, and a great man.
I met him once, under very weird circumstances. I was actually involved in a car accident with him - I was a passenger in a car that got rear-ended right in front of Jesse Hall, and the guy who hit us knocked us into Coach Selvig's suv. Obviously all of us were very annoyed with the kid who actually caused the accident, but even under the (irritating) circumstances, he was cool about it - even taking time to stop and talk basketball with those of us who were there.
