Re: Idaho's Future
I imagine there is a bunch of us going to be in Moscow for the fall game.
I am trying to think of what would be a good sign to unveil at the game.
Anybody have any ideas? Mine aren't very good.
U of I to the Big Sky!
Welcome home to the Big Sky!

Re: Idaho's Future
SBC Commissioner Benson has said it every way, except" GTFO!" The recent NCAA decision on conference membership nailed the coffin shut for UI. March 10 is supposed to be the vote date for extension or termination. AD Spears just got his contract renewed through 2020. No news on Petrino, who managed to get wins #3-6 since the beginning of the 2013 season, and who would be considered overpaid by BSC standards. 2016 is the last year of his four year contact, and was told in November that he would be back for the 2016 season. No extension mentioned. Time for UI to admit the 20 year effort has failed, and fall back into the ranks. I have a suggestion for the welcome back ideas file. Music and lyrics from" Welcome Back, Kotter," by John Sebastian.
Of course, anyone who saw that show LIVE would be about 45 today. Having to explain your jokes/humor is a definite sign of aging.

That is the sort of sentiment I want, but realistically, they are still a great fit for us.blueandgoldblitz wrote:"Who says the Big Sky even wants you back?"SonomaCat wrote:How about, "You better be very polite and eat your veggies or we won't let you into the Big Sky Conference either!"Rich K wrote:I imagine there is a bunch of us going to be in Moscow for the fall game.

Re: Idaho's Future
They would be a great addition to the conference. I also agree with many others that if they were to join, we should split the conference North/South and pick up another a-bid for the playoffs.SonomaCat wrote:Yeah I agree ... Although, by the time they were to join, would be around the same time the P5 leaves FBS. I think the P5 will probably cherry pick a few G5 teams like Boise st. and is going to leave vacuums in conferences that need to be filled. At this point I don't see any reason for MSU and UM to stay in the FCS as we should be able to compete fairly quickly with the G5 leftovers, and who knows what's going to happen to media contracts once the split occurs. I have a feeling that FCS may lose out a bit on the split and we may need to move up just to keep our program viable. Of course there will be a lot more expenses, but at some point we have to move up, unless I'm wrong about the direction Cruzado wants this program to go in the future.

Hey, I totally agree. I'd love it if they came back to the Big Sky. I was just thinking of a sign that would ruffle some feathersallcat wrote:That is the sort of sentiment I want, but realistically, they are still a great fit for us.blueandgoldblitz wrote:"Who says the Big Sky even wants you back?"SonomaCat wrote:How about, "You better be very polite and eat your veggies or we won't let you into the Big Sky Conference either!"Rich K wrote:I imagine there is a bunch of us going to be in Moscow for the fall game.

Maybe one that says, "Are you even good enough for the Big Sky?" That one would go south in a hurry though IF they beat us

So where does NMSU end up?On Monday, (NMSU President) Carruthers said that playing as an FCS program as soon as 2018 would be under serious consideration.
“I think it has to be one of the options,” he said.
Currently, NMSU plays in the Football Bowl Subdivision, primarily for large schools.
NCAA member institutions are divided into Division I, II and III. For football, Division I is divided into FBS and FCS. In 2015, there were 128 FBS teams and 125 FCS teams.
Today's announcement does not affect other Aggies' sports teams, which remain Division I as members of the Western Athletic Conference.
NMSU's best hope for staying an FBS team is to become an independent football program and hope for another round of conference shuffling and league expansion.
NMSU played an independent football schedule in 2013.
“My sense is not strong (to play independent football),” Carruthers said. “We have already tried that once. There are rules you have to adhere to, like playing five FBS teams here and you have to maintain the attendance requirements. Most teams who have gone independent not named Notre Dame or BYU have found it difficult."
Carruthers said dropping football at the university was not currently on the table.

Re: Idaho's Future
I think NMSU has a better shot of Independence than Idaho, there's already rumor's on UI forum that their Prez has already accepted the invite back to the Big Sky. Quite train wreck happening over there right now, a few pipe dreams about how Idaho is going to beat everyone in the SBC and get invited to the Big12SkyRider wrote:http://www.lcsun-news.com/story/sports/ ... /81153448/

Re: Idaho's Future
Is NMSU really in much, if any, better shape than UI? I know nothing about their program. How do they compare to UI in terms of on field success, attendance, facilities, et al? They must not be considered very desirable either, if the worst FBS conference in the nation dumped them. At least they were a slightly better fit geographically for the Sun Belt, compared to UI, and the SBC still didn't want them. I don't really see going independent as a viable option for them either. I think they'll land in either the BSC, or maybe the Southland.luckyirishguy25 wrote:I think NMSU has a better shot of Independence than Idaho, there's already rumor's on UI forum that their Prez has already accepted the invite back to the Big Sky. Re: Idaho's Future
To me the only thing that puts them in better shape than Idaho is their location sandwiched between AZ and Tx should make it slightly easier for them to schedule indy games... No one wants to go to Moscow Idaho, not even people from Idaho.John K wrote:Is NMSU really in much, if any, better shape than UI? I know nothing about their program. I'll give it too Dougie, he's apparently putting their toes to the fire and gave them an ultimatum of May 4th to accept or have the offer withdrawn! When did Dougie grow such big huevos?
