Big Sky goes 1-3 in the post season. Zero teams make it to the quarters.

Both UNI and NDSU were playing with their backup QBs too.91catAlum wrote:Big Sky goes 1-3 in the post season. Zero teams make it to the quarters.

Not totally true. In 2013 EWU had solid wins over SDSU & Jacksonville State. UMers are convinced that they were robbed by bad officiating in their loss to Coastal Carolina. But overall the conference went 2-4.Cat Grad wrote:Three years in a row the conference virtually laid a goose egg.91catAlum wrote:Big Sky goes 1-3 in the post season. In the last 2 years, the conference has 2 playoff wins, both by the Griz at home, one over a non-scholarship San Diego team.
On a previous thread, I said that the BSC was really lucky to get three teams in the playoffs-I can't imagine that the committee is going to keep giving spots away to the conference given our records. Time to turn this ship around.

It is all won in the trenches in the playoffs. Both the NDSU/NIU both won in the trenches on both sides of the ball. It seems the high octane passing offenses other than EW have not gone very far in the playoffs. While exiting to watch I hope we build the team from the D up with Coach Choate.

The fact of the matter is in 2013 the conference had four teams in the playoffs. SDSU 27-7 over NAU. SHSU 51-20 over SUU. Coastal Carolina IN FREAKN Missoula. EWU won two games before losing to TOWSON (?) IN CHENEY. Last year UM "won" a game in Missoula against San Diego. EWU beat them so the conference won two games. Disregard the fact that San Diego is what it is. This year. Just like last year. I suppose it's a matter of semantics but I simply stated the last three years the conference virtually laid goose eggs. Heck Colgate I believe is still playing! Colgate! Although we have teams out here, one sometimes wonders why. Look at the pictures of the PAC 10 Championship Game for some indication as to the real interest in college football and the known thoughts and beliefs that this slight derivation of flag football played out here is competitive.

I think you are misreading me. My only disagreement was that 2 years ago, EWU had a solid showing, reaching the Semis. The other 3 teams were horrible. Last year, all three playoff teams were pretty disappointing. This year, same story-other than UMs win over SDSU (with a backup QB) a pretty disappointing showing....Cat Grad wrote:If you want to put on rose colored glasses, okayonceacat wrote:Not totally true. Nothing rose colored here. The BSC was probably the 5th or 6th weakest conference. UNI went 3-0 against BSC teams; NDSU went 4-1 (and none of the 4 wins were even competitive). I think SDSU was 2-1. No bones about it, the BSC has been awful for the last 3 years.
Is it talent? Coaching? Too big a conference? I don't really get it-I'd love to know why.

I've long maintained it's a different set of rules enforcement and interpretation of the rules. Our games are flat out called like a Mountain West, PAC 12 or heaven forbid, a Big Sky officiating crew. To me it comes down to something as simple as the crowd control, for example. I can only imagine what a mess the people here would make of a game in Ann Arbor or Knoxville...onceacat wrote:I think you are misreading me. I don't really understand what crowd control has to do with BSC teams playing bad defense, and I don't think our officiating crews can really be blamed for it either, even if they aren't the greatest.Cat Grad wrote:I've long maintained it's a different set of rules enforcement and interpretation of the rules. I know better but I wii respond. You are entitled to your opinion. So am I. You really can't comprehend how the quality of our crowd control personnel is similar to the level of officiating. Try to visualize then our conference officials in either of those stadiums. They'd be suspended before the first quarter was over. So would our crowd control personnel.John K wrote:I don't really understand what crowd control has to do with BSC teams playing bad defense, and I don't think our officiating crews can really be blamed for it either, even if they aren't the greatest.Cat Grad wrote:I've long maintained it's a different set of rules enforcement and interpretation of the rules. Re: BSC chances come down to PSU
I'm not disputing either of these things, I'm sure our crowd control and officiating in the BSC is vastly inferior to what it is in the "big time". I just don't understand how that correlates to BSC teams collectively playing bad defense, relative to MVFC teams in particular, or other FCS conferences in general.Cat Grad wrote:I know better but I wii respond. Re: BSC chances come down to PSU
I'm with you. How does officiating make the Big Sky play bad defense? We play bad defense when we have Big Sky refs, and PSU/UM/SUU played pretty middling to bad D with out of conference refs...John K wrote:I'm not disputing either of these things, I'm sure our crowd control and officiating in the BSC is vastly inferior to what it is in the "big time".
