Idaho may not have a choice about leaving the Sun Belt. See article:

What FBS conference would want Idaho? The Kibbie dome houses 16,000 which is the second smallest venue in the FBS. Their stadium record is just over 17,000 when they played in the Big Sky. Both the Cats and Griz currently outdraw the Vandals. Going out as an independent is probably scheduling suicide.
Aren't the Vandals joining Big Sky play in basketball anyway?

They're already in the BSC for basketball, and all other sports except for football, I believe. They played hoops in the BSC last season.Cataholic wrote:Idaho may not have a choice about leaving the Sun Belt. See article:

Re: Idaho in the Big Sky For Football?
What is New Mexico State's situation in football, i.e. are they any more successful than Idaho, either on the field, or attendance-wise? If not, is there a chance that they'd also be looking to join the BSC? Or if their situation is somewhat more stable, would they be a prospect for joining the Mountain West? It doesn't seem to make any sense, for UI and NMSU to continue playing in the Sun Belt, with a bunch of schools that are located in the southeastern part of the country. It's hard for me to believe that their fans would really prefer that, to playing with a bunch of schools in their own region, even if it isn't FBS. And they've been in FBS for 20 years now. At some point don't you have to admit to yourself, that if it hasn't worked for you at that level by now, It probably never will?Cataholic wrote:Idaho may not have a choice about leaving the Sun Belt. New Mexico State has had less success in the FBS than Idaho. I believe it's now 45 years since they've gone to a bowl game. The Sun Belt just recently voted to not make them a full member even though NMSU offered a travel subsidy as part of their application for full membership. I've heard they have reached out to the Southland, Missouri Valley, and Big Sky about finding a home for football instead of going independent FBS again.

The SWAC comment below is inaccurate. The opted out of the FCS playoffs because they are not competitive in FCS ( I believe they are non scholarship) and more importantly, they got a $1 million dollar deal to have a conference championship game. Way more money than they could ever get in FCS playoffs eveñ if they made it to the championship game 4 years in a row.

In order for any FCS conference to participate in the playoffs, all teams in the conference must complete their regular season games by the weekend prior to Thanksgiving, including any potential conference championship game. This is why SWAC teams don't participate in the playoffs, as they play a conference championship game, usually in early December. If the BSC wanted to have a championship game, they would have to reduce the amount of regular season games from 11 to 10, which would hinder the chances of potential at large bid teams of attaining the 7 D1 wins mark to qualify for the FCS playoffs.77matcat wrote:My vote is divisions with play off.Cat Grad wrote:This is as ludicrous as the old WAC before the bunch in the Mountain West split away. They're in all liklihood better off in the Sun Belt and I don't understand why Spears left the Big West in all the nonrevenue sports. He seems to be the weak link in their athletic department but since I really don't have any interests in that school don't really care one way or the other what Dougie decides to do.LongTimeCatFan wrote:What the heck do we do with 14 schools for football? Should we split into two divisions or two new conferences? Or does the fuster cluck just get bigger?
