Kicking Game

Post by profisme » Tue Nov 29, 2005 7:09 pm

Alright, back to this subject that has been worn out the last few years. Hastings was great for us this year (under 40 yards), and should be the same way next year. Do any of you envision Fisher possibly stepping in and taking the job from him or possibly being used as the "over-40" field goal kicker? Hastings does a good job, but lacks the leg to really make the longer attempts.

I don't see how Hastings can be removed completely after how well he did this year...if we have a guy like Cochrane with a big leg who can hit from 45+ yards when it's out of Hastings' range, then great!

I don't think Eric has the leg yet. He has it for punting and kickoffs which is what he sould be doing. Fieldgoals will be Hastings until he is gone.

I pray to God Kramer uses him as our punter next year. Do we have anyone else?

Bolton can really boom them but I heard Force will punt with the all to familiar role-out style punt.

I think Fisher is going to do it next year.

Fisher should be kicking off and punting but Kramer has already announced that Force will be punting next season - and we all know that means the roll out style. With Lulay doing the honors at least we had a viable threat for a fake but with Force that really isn't there. I guess Kramer is convinced this is the better way to go.

Maybe I imagined this but doesn't it seem like more teams are starting to use the roll-out style punt? I know Cal Poly and UM were both doing it at the end of the season. Can't argue with it's effectiveness when done correctly. Lulay led or was at the top of the Big Sky in punting for the past 4 years - with a couple monsters - remember that 81 yarder??? 8)

Great time to be a BOBCAT!

Ryan can fake it as well, just won't be able to go as deep as Lulay. I think I remember Ryan throwing a pass on a trick play last year? Anyone else remember that or am I making it up? I am happy that Ryan is punting and I like the roll out style, it keeps people on their toes.

I think Fisher will get stronger over his red shirt year. Spring scrims did not show him as having as strong a of a leg as I had heard from his highschool debut. The one scrim I watched had Hastings and Bolton both with more distance all around. The following is the spring scrim article with some kicking details. Unless K changes the special teams strategy, a deep kicker will not get many chances to kick deep, the strategy remains kick where he wants it kicked to prevent runbacks, deep enzone kicks don't allow coverage to focus on a spot on the field to head twoards.

I look for Hastings on placements, Bolton on long FG's, Force on punts, Bolton on kickoffs.

Deep kicks all change if you can kick it out of the endzone. If anyone steps up and can do that consistently. Then they will be the guy. Then it's 20 yard line over and over. Doresky (poor spelling) did that at times last year and Kramer loved it.

This was a big deal for us when Snyder was still around. He kicked it out of the endzone alot, which limited the new of big returns on kick offs. If the opponent starts off at their own 20, you are in pretty good shape.

What about Tyler Bolton?? Is he no longer being considered? Is he still on scholarship or was he never on one?

Still on scholarship. Did not demonstrate a BIG leg this year. Very inconsistant!
