I'm not enough of an "Insider" to know what the MSU Athletic Dept. has planned and who they are visiting with for major corporate/ personal donations. I would think Mr. Forbes (Forbes Magazine) and Mr. Siebel (Siebel Systems) among many other weekend Montanans would love some attention. Closer to home: Zoot, Right Now Tech, D.A. Davidson (I know they're griz), et.al..
D.A. Davidson's giving has been spread out among the Universities in states and city's that they do business in. Their giving, I believe has been all academic. They have even been known to give money to msu. The horror.

No doubt DA Davidson supports academics (great job) AND lots of MSU grads work for them. However, ask the Davidson family who they cheer for during CAT/griz. I really don't care who they cheer for as long as they share the wealth from "helping" people invest. Their corporate dollars spend very well in Bozeman, especially for academics AND a new stadium. Thank you very much, Mr. Davidson!! Next............

TheCityGriz, did you watch the last UM/Cal Poly game. There was plenty of sliding on that icy turf surface until later in the game. If you get snow and frozen conditions it does not matter which surface. don't blame the conditions for the Butt whippin that got laid on your Griz.

Don't we all drink a lot of Pepsi at the games?

I think the chairman of Pepsi has a trophy home in Gallatin County.

Cell Phones. All those students use QualCom technology. I think a founder of QualCom has another trophy home in Gallatin County.

Ted Turner. He is old and has more money then then anyone to give away. MSU should be tapping that source before it is all gone to 3rd world countries.

Who knows who lives at Yellowstone Club. They are all super rich too!

Give them a sky box for a staduim. Sounds responsible to me.

There is more money in Gallatin County then another other county in Montana. MSU needs to hire a good con-man(strike that) or funderaiser to tap these deep pockets.

How does Turner Staduim sound? How about QualCom Staduim?

The money is there.

Another Blue and Gold team already has that one, but Turner Stadium works for me. So does Blixseth-Bobcat Stadium!

Although I would love for a rich person who happens to enjoy the quality of life part-time in Gallatin County to pony up a large check for our new stadium, I don't know if it's necessarily realistic. Unless those people happen to be Bobcat fans, what motivation do they have to donate to the program? They might donate money to the school (out of altruistic concerns), or they might donate to theaters, symphonies, museums and other community projects that they actually enjoy personally, but I don't think we are going to be able to count on any of them putting down cash for a football stadium (which, honestly, benefits only football fans and nobody else).

And besides, we'd have to quit bitching about all of the rich people (even those from, gasp, California) if we want them to donate to our pet project.

Odds are, we're going to have to raise football stadium money from MSU grads and MSU fans. I would love to be 100% wrong on this assertion, though.

Very good point Brad! We have alienated many of our rich residents who came in from other states. Many like Turner have ruffled a lot of feathers with there politics and thus take a lot of heat from born and raised MT's. That does have an impact on charitable contributions outside of their primary belief system (save the Buffalo, save the Theater, save the forest).

Ian Davidson, not only attended U of M, he also taught there for a short time, believe he met his wife in Missoula. Both are active with the University, and in fact the Davidson’s donated $ for the Davidson Honors College building. The company has a luxury box in Missoula. Do they have one in bozo?

You are absolutely right. My business works regularly in the Big Sky area, and Gallatin, Park and Madison Co's., and I deal with these rich folks daily, but they have no connection to MSU. I'm generally wearing something MSU related (sweatshirt, hat, etc.) and many of them recognize it and we chat a bit about the 'Cats, because they are somewhat aware and are trying to get used to the neighborhood.

Simple fact is that no matter what trophy home they have or how much land they own, they generally only spend 2-5 weeks per year in Montana.

I do see more and more from the Big Sky area attending games, so maybe it's just a matter of time until someone adopts us, but it may be awhile. In the meantime we need to do what we can.

If anyone of great wealth can have their ego fed by having their name attached to a football stadium in Bozeman, Montana, then I'd be more than happy to provide some spoons.

They need to support the community they have choosen to live whether or not they are MSU grads or MSU supports. I am sure a few MSU grads have help them become rich. It is now time to payback.

Thanks for being concerned, I left Montana to help care for sick family member.

Last I heard it was something like 3 U of M grads to every one msu grad employed at D A Davidson. The Davidson companies have been hugely successful. They must know something about which school produces quality employees.

Speaking of rankings. In a 2004 ranking of the top 500 universities in the world for academics and research, UM came in 378 while msu came in at 436. OUCH!!!

There is one BIG $ person whom MSU should be looking at right in our own backyard. The owner of Barnhard Construction. Just look what he did for Gonzaga.

Look into it.

Phyllis Washington was Homecoming Queen for UM, though.
