I-AA playoff attendance

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Sat Nov 26, 2005 10:41 pm

Lafayette at Appy State 6,327
So Ill at E Illinois-NA
Cal Poly at um-16,162
G Southern at Texas St.-10,000
Nicholls St. at Furman-4,125
Colgrate at New Hampshire-7,806
Richmond at Hampton-5,343
EWU and Northern Iowa-7,746

I know crowds are down because of the holiday, but geez. I thought Appy St. was averaging around 20K?

And New Hampshire was jammed packed-that's all their place can hold.

We need to get ourselves in the mix-MSU can help make I-AA look better!

Those numbers really surprise me. I had assumed that these are winning programs and you would think that winning programs have pretty good attendance. Maybe it has to do with the Holiday weekend but even then these numbers are lower than expected. And some of the stadiums are the size of high school facilities.

Hampton's league doesn't deserve an auto-bid.

The Patriot League getting two teams is a joke.

Appy and Furmam should be embarrassed with those attendace figures.

MSU would have pulled in 10k EASY for a game this past weekend. They deserved a home game based on what transpired this past weekend.

I'm kinda tired of this "the Cats deserved a playoff game" stuff. Face it. They didn't get it done this year, and needed wayyy too much help in order to get into the playoffs at 7-4. Obviously (obviously), a team with 4 losses, no matter their SOS, will not get into the playoffs. Am I disappointed with this season? Hell yes. Was it a bad season? Hell no.

Now, can we PLEASE all agree that Youngstown State was the team that REALLY got screwed this year by the selection committee?..... Because they did.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

I read on thread on this subject at anygivensaturday. It seems schools tend to under-report their playoff attendance. This makes sense because the NCAA takes a huge chunk of the gate. The Appy fans said there were way more there than what was reported.

I can tell you from being there that we had at least 13,000 or more at the Texas State game, but just wait until this week. We hear that temp bleachers are being looked for so we can hold a possible 18,000 plus. Our place without the temps holds 15,500 and it was full except the corners on the upper decks this past week so I know that was much more than 10.000.

Why did the griz only have 16,000 at their game? Over 7,000 empty seats? I guess we were not the only ones who knew they really didn't belong in the playoffs.

The first round games never sell out. Last year, the Griz set a first round playoff record for attendance with around 16,300 people. This year was only around 160 less people. 16,000 people at a first round game (Thanksgiving weekend) is a very good attendance number.

Thanks for the insight. It just seems a little funny that a stadium that averages over 23,000 during the regular season would drop that much for the first round playoff game. I have never payed any attention in years past, does it go back to the 23,000 type number for later rounds?

Yeah, it usually goes back to about 22-23,000 in the next 2 home games. You're right thought, unfortunately we won't find out this year.
