Good slate of BSC games this week

Post by [cat_bracket] » Thu Sep 10, 2015 11:06 am

Most intriguing are:
EWU at No. Iowa
WSU at NDSU
PSU at ISU
So. Utah at SDSU
Poly at Arizona St.

I think ISU will wallop PSU. I don't think EWU will win. How will So. Utah after its near FBS upset do against SDSU fresh of its FBS win?

Interesting stuff.

EWU at No. Iowa (Eastern will roast N. Iowa)
WSU at NDSU (WSU will play NDSU tough but will lose)
PSU at ISU (ISU will beat PSU pretty easy at home)
So. Utah at SDSU (SDSU will beat So. Utah pretty easy at home)
Poly at Arizona St. (ASU will have no trouble with Cal Poly)

There you have it.

I agree that PSU falls back to earth this week. If they actually win at ISU then consider me a PSU believer.

SDSU is the best looking FCS team I've seen so far. Their offense moved the ball almost at will at Kansas, both running and passing. If SUU can hold that team to 0 Offensive TDs like they did Utah State last week, consider me a believer in SUU's defense.
Actually if SUU holds them to less than 20, I'll be impressed.

You think EWU will roast No. Iowa? I think not. That's a tough place to play. UNI actually played Iowa State close. ISU got three touchdowns either set up by or directly scored by special teams in the second half. It was 10-7 at half. UNI had more first downs. UNI beat NDSU 23-3 last year at home.

EWU at No. Iowa - 43 to 40, EWU.
WSU at NDSU - 35 to 27, NDSU
PSU at ISU - 45 to 35, ISU
So. Utah at SDSU - 33 to 20, SDSU
Poly at Arizona St. - 50 to 41, ASU

You’re probably right. UNI has traditionally been one of the hardest places in all of FCS to win on the road. As you said even NDSU has trouble and lost there just last year. But it’s an indoor carpeted facility which is not advantageous to the NDSU style of play. The place is much like Pocatello Idaho and nobody likes to go there but I just don’t see a fast indoor stadium being a huge advantage to UNI against EWU. Admittedly I am not that familiar with UNI this year but I was very impressed with EWU against UO. I could certainly be all wet but I don’t see UNI keeping pace with Eastern.

kansas has won a grand total of 12 games since 2010. Or maybe it's since 2011. Either way, 4 of the 12- were against fcs. Not very good.

UNI put up over 40 4 times last year. They also beat the #2 team in the country, Illinois St at home the week before they beat NDSU. I said this last year, but UNI would have run the tables easily in the Big Sky last year. That being said, I have no idea what they look like this year. The last few years they've had lots of transfers & drop downs. I'm guessing they win by a TD.

PSU will get roasted by ISU, though.
WSU will get steamrolled by NDSU (3 scores)
SUU will hang with SDSU, but jackrabbits will win by a TD
Arizona St is going to take out its frustrations from last weeks loss to Texas A&M on Poly. By at least 20.

This should tell you what I know about predicting football...
I knew UNI was good and a tough place to play but I can't believe they beat eastern like that. I do think it made a big difference that Cooper Kupp was out. The Cal poly vs ASU and PSU v ISU games were also big surprises to me.

I'm kind of blown away by PSU. That looks to be quite the turnaround.

Predictions are hard, especially about the future.

I was shocked as well. However, PSU has had loads of talent for quite a few years now. I guess it took a different coach for them to put it together.

Did anybody notice the odd formation that PSU used, 4 receivers spread out to one side, 2 of them were on the line so the inside one was ineligible, on passing plays he basically just stood there, on running plays he blocked. It looked to me like the basically just took him out of the play, I would think that you could blitz the db that covered him. The Patriots used a similar scheme last year a few times. PSU must have used the formation at least 5 or 6 times maybe more since I didn't see the whole game. It seem like a gimmik formation to me that can be beat with a little preparation. I didn't notice it being used in the WSU game.

The most difficult part of that is identifying that on the fly. If you can identify, I agree that it's easily beatable by scheme. Have to be very careful of the tackle being eligible on the other side though. They'd either have to line a TE numbered guy on that end of the line or report that tackle as eligible, giving it away. Now that it is on film, I doubt it will be used with much more success moving forward. But the good thing if I'm PSU, is that it gives the opponent one more thing to prepare for during the week, which takes time from something else.
