Isn't that what a successful program strives for, to gain new fans? Seems counter intuitive to make fun of that. Maybe it's just me.
Why so serious?
You did lend support to the bandwagon jokes in this thread, though!

This is a great point. I know Packer fans who have never been to Green Bay. So why can't their be Griz fans who have never been to college? Seems kind of snooty to say someone has to have gone to college before they can be a football fan. For that matter, what about kids in grade school or high school who like the Cats or the Griz? Do we say they can't because they haven't gone to one of the universities?

I was dead wrong in my Montana - Cal Poly prediction. Wrong wrong wrong. I wish the Cats good luck and good health against EWU. Beat those chumps.

Not that I put any stock in this poll, as most Griz fans I know don't root for the Cats but....I am sure it is obvious to most but the streak built contempt in the heart of many Cat fans, It also gave many Griz fans a sense of superiority. Both of these things made Cat fans hate the Griz more and more, the longer the streak went on the more the hate built up. I am not from Montana and came to college in Bozeman having never even herd of the Cats or the Griz but the more Griz fans I met the more I started to hate the team. I was put over the edge when the Griz beat the Cats in a Big Sky tournament men's basketball game (I forget the year) and the coach came running down to the section I was sitting in and yelled to the fans where is all the noise now? I felt this was a very childish thing for a head coach to do. Since then I would root for Isis before I root for the Griz.

Yeah, I hate the Griz and would never root for them and I don't care what that says about Cat fans. The Griz are our rivals and frankly it's annoying a Griz fan would feel the urge to post this over here to begin with. If you dark pinkers need to do a poll to figure out we don't like you then you must be bandwagon fans who know nothing about this rivalries history.

The Cats are more likable, so of course Griz fans want to root for the Cats. Heck, that's just common sense. The whole country would root for the Cats if only they knew a bit more about them.

Well played. I bet more um grads respect MSU as a school, than MSU grads respect um. More people from Missoula want to move to Bozeman than people from Bozeman want to move to Missoula and so on.

You just hit the nail right on the head. I am almost embarrassed to say that I grew up as a griz fan. I rooted for them past my college years in Bozeman. But when that streak happened people that had never given a crap one way or another put on their griz wall-mart costumes and became unbearable. I will never root for them again under any circumstances which is a shame because the athletes really had nothing to do with it. I was in Bozeman when the cats blew a twenty point halftime lead in basketball to the Dan Trammel last second dunk for the griz win for the BSC tourney. I have eaten way more crap in the last twenty years than any sports fan should have to endure in a lifetime. I have a family full of the griz fans. My mother used to say that it was hard to be a bobcat fan and easy to be a griz fan. She was right.

Griz fans also most likely to stalk and harass college students for legally scalping tickets.

This is a true story. Last weekend I was at a small town "touristy" store with my familly. Another couple had their young son with them and he was wearing a a Cat shirt. I said "this should be an exciting season for the Cats". We chatted about the Ft Lewis game and the Poly loss. I told him it was nice to see so many people wearing Cat merchandise. He told me that he actually played for the Griz (he was a big dude) when the Cats broke "the streak". He said the fans treated the players with so much contempt for that loss that he roots for the Cats today. Just another example of how Griz fans have made it hard to root for the Griz, regardless of whether you are a Cat fan or not!

You guys are hilarious. You could literally interchange "Griz" for "Cats" and vice versa in any one of these posts and you'd be spot on. Both fan bases have a lot of dislike/hate toward the other and both fan bases have idiot fans who ruin it for the bunch. For as many idiot Griz posters who are over here talking crap all the time and giving the Griz a bad name ( not that they need any help with that judging from the hatred in these posts) there are just as many clowns from the Cats talking smack on the Griz board and doing the same. It's what a real rivalry creates.
What's funny is I used to root on the cats whenever they played anyone but the Griz. I had buds at MSU and spent time here in college and had not disdain for MSU whatsoever. Not anymore. It all changed when I moved here to Bozeman and started to see the true colors and hatred of Cats fans all around me. Your fan base is every bit as nasty and distasteful as the Griz fan base, if not more, but who gives a crap. It's a rivalry and that's what it creates. But I recognize that and don't act like my Griz fan base is better or more entitled than your cat fan base. I'm surprised you guys see it differently. All I know is after living here I will never root for the cats again, as you won't root for the Griz, and thT is how it should be. Red Sox don't root for Yankees either....ever.
It is interesting that App St and NDSU are super complimentary of the Griz base and said their trips to Missoula are unrivaled and they haven't been treated better. Maybe that's because it's not as big of a rivalry and the hatred isn't already there. Just my two cents fellas....

What is the point of this poll? For griz fans to claim the high road because they "root for their cross state rivals," which enables them to lay claim to ultimate fanbase altruism?
Nah, that's too cerebral for them. Probably some guy just using his blog to troll the masses. Standard.
Men, do your duty.

Most of your post is true. We are probably not supposed to like each other. I was at Tech-Carroll today and there is no love for each other there.
As for your App State and NDSU comment, not sure where you are getting your info. Didn't a Griz fan just grab the NDSU player by the facemask. Welcome to Missoula!! With friends like that, who needs enemies?

So you're using a sample size of 1 to make that call. Huh okay. I'm going off the hundreds of FB posts, tweets, letters from school Presidents, and posts to egriz from their fans talking how there is no better fan base, how well they got treated, and how impressed they were with Griz fans. I think that carries more weight than your example of one drunk fan.

Sample size of one??? That is one example of thousands of examples!! How about when WA Griz stadium applauded the injury of your startimg QB? How about when Joe Glenn lost his first game as coach and he found home for sale signs in his yard? There are plenty of examples. A lot more than a hand full of letters. As a matter of fact, there seems to be a large contingency of Bison fans that think you guys are a-holes.
By the way, with this last incident, the news media noted that there is an EXTENSIVE history of problem fans. Definitely not just one incident.

Wait, you yourself stated, "as for your App St and NDSU comment....." So we were discussing those fan bases when you brought up the drunk fan harassing the NDSU player. I said that was a sample size of 1 person in your argument who gave the Griz a bad name. Overall it's easily 95% of app st and NDSU fans who think our fan base is as good as it gets. I can provide you with tons of examples.
So your most recent post with the examples above is an entirely different conversation...some would say apples to oranges. We could play that game all night. What about the cats fans who carved "FTG" into Alpha's car hood (he has the pics to prove it)? What about the Cats player who spit on our Mascot "Mo" who is like a 12 year old girl? You see this classlessness you speak of goes both ways, all day, every day. Which points back to my original post that you can swap "Cats" or "Griz" into any of those sentences and depending on the fan base they both work.
