Noone has said he's going to a top school. There are a lot of FBS schools, not just a big name school.KittieKop wrote:Craig Bohl managed to make it all the way to Wyoming.Stitt should probably expect to be at Texas A&M or USC after that 1 great FCS victory, no?

I say 1. A smart man looking to move up would realize that after that game on National TV, his exposure is at a high. Next year he could go undefeated, but he wouldn't have THE only game on TV to start the season that everyone was watching. His name is on people's tongues right now. AD's know him. Fans know him. He could be the "sexy" hire. I can see it happening. That's IF the rest of the season builds on that to make a nice resume.

If I were running a lower end P5 athletics department Stitt would have my attention. However, to me, there are questions remaining. I would really want to know more about him as a recruiter, since I know nothing about his connections and if he can develop those connections quickly enough to be effective. On the field and in practice, he definitely seems like someone who could be successful at any level.
I could see Colorado taking a run at him in a couple of years....or a school like Kansas try for him sooner.

Re: How many years...
I just think that everyone should hold off on anointing him as the next "Boy Wonder" of the coaching world, until UM gets a few more games under their belt. I keep thinking back to what was probably MSU's biggest win ever in a season opener, when we beat Colorado in 2006. For one thing, Colorado wasn't nearly as good as we thought they were. They won the Big 12 North and played in the conference championship game the previous season, but finished something like 2-10 in 2006. It's possible that we'll be saying the same thing about NDSU at the end of the season. They're not going to go 2-10, but it's very possible that they're not nearly as good this year, as they've been the last 5 years. Again, looking back at 2006 for MSU, we all know what happened immediately after the big win in Boulder, a 3-game losing streak including the loss to Chadron. I'm not saying that the same thing will happen to UM, but I also don't necessarily think we can assume they're going to blow through the rest of their schedule, just based upon one very impressive performance in their season opener.

If you've ever heard Stitt address these issues, you would know that stability of school and community for his 7th grader and 10th grader are his wife's and his top priority. It's why they stayed at Mines from the time they were born until now. He says of the 120 programs in the FBS, at least 80 of them could never compete with UM (from a coaching fulfillment standpoint) in terms of community support, game-day experience, tradition, etc. The 40 or so FBS communities that WOULD be a coach's dream are not the ones that would be calling him anyway. Mick Dennehy flopped at Utah State. Joe Glenn flopped at Wyoming. Bobby Hauck flopped at UNLV. Stitt's got a long-term deal with his kids newly enrolled in the second school system they've ever known in a neighborhood they love. I doubt anyone else who is commenting here has ever met him.

I think UM could have won this game under Delaney or any of their other past coaches ... they almost always have the talent to beat anyone, especially at home.
I give UM all the credit in the world for that win, and Stitt gets some credit for being the head coach in the win. At the same time, I certainly didn't see a game where the only reason UM won was because of some kind of zen coaching performance ... they have a lot of talent (almost all of which was from the prior coaching staff's efforts).

NDSU would have won easily if Delaney were still the coach.

I've heard every single coach I've ever met, and even more than I haven't, in my life say that or something similar. It's what coaches do. Do you actually believe this one coach is any different? When he tells his kids why they're moving (and what's in it for them) they'll understand. Kids understand money at an early age.Griznationalist wrote:If you've ever heard Stitt address these issues, you would know that stability of school and community for his 7th grader and 10th grader are his wife's and his top priority. Agreed....This was just one game, and as the Cats know that even through their most successful seasons, winning in Missoula is no given. No doubt NDSU will have a winning record this year, but history has proven that upsets happen all the time on most Saturdays...Remembering when the Cats went into Boulder and came out with an impressive win, only to be followed up by a DII loss at Home to Western Nebraska's Chadron St....Cal Poly/ Montana's next game could certainly turn out similar to MSU's experience with Chadron if they get too cute. Poly has a shifty beast at QB that burned the Griz with his feet down in SLO 2 years ago......Trap game for GrizJohn K wrote:I just think that everyone should hold off on anointing him as the next "Boy Wonder" of the coaching world, until UM gets a few more games under their belt. Bobby Hauck, Joe Glenn, Mick Dennehy, Mike Kramer, Rob Ash, Doug Graber, to name a few. Where have you been? Do you seriously think any FCS coach isn't full of it when they say the school they're at is their dream job? You're the most gullible person walking the face of the earth if not. Montana born and bred Bobby Hauck left for UNLV!! for god sake. That should say it all. The only way they don't is if the raise isn't substantial enough, but almost all of them are. Do you seriously think any coach won't leave if someone offers to double their salary?! Most of these deals also raise the salaries of the assistants as well. Do you actually think a coach would blow that off? You're living in dream land if so.Griznationalist wrote:Every single coach you've ever met in your life said that or something similar? No. I'm basing this on all the attention he's getting nationally from other coaches and the media. I don't recall another situation like it. He's a hot commodity right now and the win over NDSU was just icing. Sure if he stumbles, I'll change my tune, but if um wins its next two, it could easily roll to 8-0. He'd have to lose his last three to take the startch out. Not likely. The whole country is falling in love with guy. Schools needing a coach will find him hard to pass up because they don't want to be "the school that passed on Stitt"GRIZ1STCATS2ND wrote:I just think it's funny a few months ago most of you thought he was a decent guy and not a threat now you're on you're knees praying his time at UofM will be short lived.
