Well, Well, Well Bozone, when you put that way, I can start to see your point. I would be hesitant to say beating the Griz is the least of all goals...but of the goals you listed above, I would agree. And it certainly can't be the smallest of all the goals the Bobcats may or may not have. This game is big time for both schools & I hope it will be that way for a long time to come.
Here's wishing you all a Great Thanksgiving...Thanks for the Discussions

I have a question for the Cat fans who think the Griz don't deserve a home game this year: If you were the selection committee, who do you think should have the home games? Of the teams that are on the road this week, here are the options:
Colgate (8-3, with a Patriot League schedule), Eastern (7-4; yes they beat the Griz, but they have the worst record in the playoffs), Ga. Southern (8-3), Cal Poly (same record as we have, and we beat them fairly handily), Richmond (8-3), Nicholls State (6-3), Lafayette (8-3, Patriot League schedule), Southern Illinois (8-3, Gateway Conference, #1 for much of the year, but stumbled badly late).
Now, since everyone agrees that the Griz don't deserve a home game, which of these teams should have taken our place? I've made my parenthetical arguments that Colgate, EWU, Poly, and Lafayette definitely don't deserve to host over the Griz. Of the remaining options, I would argue that Nicholls State's 6-3 record doesn't make them a clear favorite over UM either. Thus, we're left with Ga. Southern and SIU, both of whom have the same record as Montana, and neither of which has looked particularly dominant for most of the year.
Anyway, since UM so clearly does not deserve a home game this year, can anyone tell me which of these schools is more deserving than we are, and why?

i think eastern deserves to be at home since they beat the griz and Cats and got the autobid. since the griz got a home game, it just makes sense that eastern should (all other issues aside).
sorry for the simple logic on that - no smack intended

I think
"all other issues" is what determines whether or not a team hosts.

I won't say that I feel it's the smallest but I will sum up my feelings this way: I'd trade a win over the Griz for a playoff win (or more).
However, if my choices were 1)losing to the Griz and then losing a 1st round playoff game, or 2) beating the Griz but missing the playoffs....
I think I'd take #2 (and I'd take it all over the Griz! uhthankyou...)
Funny that the Griz may be about to live #1...?
Compare the number of BSC teams that beat the Griz with the number of non-Griz BSC teams in the playoffs:
2005 Eastern/MSU beat Griz, Eastern makes playoffs
2004 Portland State beats Griz, EWU makes playoffs
2003 Idaho State / MSU beat Griz, NAU/MSU makes playoffs
2002 EWU / MSU beat Griz, MSU makes playoffs
2001 No one beats Griz / NAU makes playoffs
2000 No one beats Griz / Portland State makes playoffs
Same number of Griz losses as BSC berths (excluing the Griz) in the last six seasons. It's as easy to go to the playoffs as it is to beat the Griz.

I work with several Griz alum, and it was so much fun razzing them before and after the Cat/Griz game. Their only comeback is "at least we got the playoffs." I want the Griz to tank against Cal Poly so they change their mantra to at least we got crushed in the playoffs.
By the way, the best thing that could happen to the Cats recruiting wise right now (that they can't control) is for the Griz playoff run and eventual playoff streak to end. Certainly it won't help if the Griz make a run at the championship game. All the euphoria from Cat/Griz will just turn into statewide excitement for the Griz. Like the Grinch who stole Christmas, I will have none of it!!!
Actually, our mantra is "at least we've won a Big SKy Title since 1984"

Grizlaw.
I would say both Georgia Southern and Southern Illinois if they finished higher than 3rd. in their conference. They have the same records and if you use the argument that they stumbled at the end of the season you take away the argument that the beginning of the season is important and that is why the Griz even got in. 2 losses in conference and third place losing to the 1 and 2 team in conference does not normally get you a bid let alone a host role. Taking this same argument EWU should then get in as two of the losses were non conference and early in the year.

Then I will asume by that theory that if we went 1-10 and teh 1 win was against the griz, that the team, fans, etc would be happy. Trust me that would not be the case.
On the Kramer show on Altitude, the guy interviewing Kramer said he talked to many people over the weekend that said they could care less if they have a winning record or go 1-10, as long as they beat the Griz.

Did we go 1-10 with a win over the griz this year?
NOPE
We went 7-4 with a win over the griz. Were we excited about a huge win for the program?
ABSOLUTELY
If we had gone 8-3 with a loss to the griz, would we have been truely happy?
NOPE
3 out of the last 4 will have major implications in the statewide reecruiting wars. Five years ago, I would have taken a 1-10 season if it meant a win over the griz, but not in this new rising era of CAT football. Our coach has brought us to a level that the griz can no longer claim solely for themselves. Each of the past three Big Sky Championship banners that we have claimed a portion of, have come at the expense of the griz.
I don't care who you are, that right there is pretty SWEET!

that's why he said it was the least of all THOSE goals. not the least of any goal that any player or coach may or may not have had this season. read carefully, think, and then reply.

WTG...I was replying to a earlier post that bozone made in this thread that read in part... "Beating the griz is the smallest, and easiest, of
all the goals we set at the beginning of every season."
4 hours later he replied with THOSE goals he believes the Cats set at the begining of each year.
Read Carefully, think and then reply!!

Hauck will lose to the Cats again next year. He's already resigned to that fact.

I saw Bobby on television yesterday and during the interview I think I detected TINY LITTLE GRIN.

I must say, it didn't look too bad on him. You know, if he would smile more, he would at least come across as being a little more personable.

Who cares?
As long as he keeps losing at least 2 of every 3 to the Cats, he'll remain my favorite Griz coach!

Do you mean the half that boo their own team, or the other half???
