If you like to talk about close wins for the CATS, 16-6 will look like a close game on paper in 20 years, but for those of us that were there, we will always know that is was a flat out A$$ WHIPPING.
I'll concede that this year's team is a little weak compared to teams past....but we are still fighting!!

again, did you "griz" fans go to the oregon and ewu site and talk up your team after you got beat?

if not, why do you continue to do that now? seems like even pavlov couldn't train you.....

I can't speak for all Griz fans toddler...but I sure didn't do that.

Then again...neither of those teams are our hated in-state rival!!

OK, I'm done beating this horse to death!

Good job Cats, your team rebounded like champions and deserve a share of the BSC title. Really, your TEAM was very good last week. First time I have felt compelled to call it a TEAM and not just go with LULAY. Well Done Boys...

As for the Griz, no apologies. We won 2 of our last 3 on the road and secured a playoff birth even before Cat/Griz game...Well Done Griz!

Time to make my hotel reservations and move on...

See you in time for Cat/Griz hoops!!!

If you are worried about Montana continuing to get home games there are two things you can do this weekend, root for Cal Poly or root for your fellow Bobcats from Texas State. If we win we will host the next game. Either way no more Montana home game.

Quit Saying "Go Griz"

Post by Grizzfan » Tue Nov 22, 2005 10:14 pm

Man o man. I have just waded through 5 pages, (count 'em) of the most prolific penis envy I've ever witnessed. Give it up Cats. You had a very, very good team this year, yes, better head-to-head, than the Griz. But the 1-AA/NCUAA world is bigger than the Griz and the Bobcats. Sure I'd agree that EWU should have a home game, it would be so nice. But a 4 loss team only gets into the playoffs (historically) when they win their conference. The BSC is the strongest conference in 1-AA, so says Sagarin who I worship. We all should have been recognized for that but, since we all beat each other up - resulting in great teams having 4 losses, - we look like dog doodoo on paper.

Hey, you have the verbal commitment of the best high school QB ever from Billings, Bobcats. Suckor on that, put your sloped foreheads together and figure how you are going to build a program that can garner respect beyond the kitty litter box. And I'm not pissed off; just bored by all the whining on this page - your page of course.

GO GRIZ

a couple nice posts to hopefully put this crud to bed - i know driven by a bitter lose. i would hate to see what would happen if the griz had one with these types of fans. all in all, i think think the griz are concerned since the Cats are no longer their whipping boy - it shows in the concern, the posts and comments.

by the way grizfan, no need for name calling fat head (joking only).

as i said before - best of luck griz next weekend

I for one will be rooting for Cal Poly ( it would make me physically ill to say Go Gr......, except for $%*&#!

But I will say Go Bobcats! (even though it's Texas State)

I for one will not argue the fact that the griz deserved a bid and the MSU 'Cats did not, I just cannot root for the griz.

I'm not a newcomer, my family on both sides have been in Montana since the 1860's, and I was born & raised a Bobcat. I have numerous friends around the state who are just as avid about the griz as I am about the Bobcats and we have a lot of fun with the rivalry, but there is no way they would ever root for the Bobcats. Just the way it is.

It's "Grizzfan" rooky. And I have a big head because I am GRIZ and I know what we are all about and what it takes. Thus far you only have pieces of greatness. Knowledge is truth and you have all the ingredients to get there if you only give up the smack and inane little small-town putdowns and try to develop a program. It might take 20 years. That's what it took here and we don't intend to let it go.

Actually, I believe it took about 90 years. Or did the University of Montana not play football from 1897 - 1986?

I've said this before, but it's worth repeating. Football was not invented by Don Read in Missoula in 1986. Over the course of the entire history of the programs, MSU fans have just as much "tradition" to be proud of as Grizzly fans have. Just because it all didn't happen in one 20 year stretch doesn't make it any less worthy of praise.

sorry about the name - apparently a huge mistake (bitter). i am a just rookie (with an "ie" spelling major from um).

mainly there hasn't been much smack or putdowns pointed personnelly at anyone (at least from me). i'm just bewildered why "fans" like you come to a board and talk crap after you lose. you do remember the score don't you? i guess i don't understand your movtivation? is that smack asking why you do that after a lose?

i guess i know far too many real griz fans that have some respect for the other teams they play as well as common sense to "go to a gun fight with a knife". your name calling and feable attempts to hurt or discredit a person or team are an obvious attempt to feel better about yourself. if your self worth is based upon how one team performs during the year and they don't live up to expectations to the point of lobbying attacks - you have the problem. life must appear bleak - especially after a lose like that?

listen, believe it or not, i like the griz (only like the cats better). i've got friends who played for the griz. i took classes from um and on and on. your comments discredit the great program they have put together and discredit the real griz fans out there. bottom of the barrel.

yes - the Cats are getting better. it isn't happening over night, but they have shown progress in the last four years --- 3 out of 4 if i remember correctly.

hold on to your lists - hope it helps you through the day...

Football was not invented by Don Read in Missoula in 1986. Over the course of the entire history of the programs, MSU fans have just as much "tradition" to be proud of as Grizzly fans have. Just because it all didn't happen in one 20 year stretch doesn't make it any less worthy of praise.
Quite to the contrary Don Read re-invented football in the Big Sky. You will have to agree that Air-Read made some pretty dramatic changes introducing the West Coast Offense passing game (to us at least), the screen pass (that we can't even execute correctly today but everyone else has adopted quite well) and an emphasis of putting the best and fastest players on special teams. Don Read is a God-like figure here and loved by all. He built a program that has endured, and with the insistance of our fan base will, AT ALL COSTS.

Yep, the Cats have lots to be proud of, last couple of years particularly; but I sense a grovelling, sniveling whine by most of your posters. I've read this board for months before actually piping up. Should have kept my mouth shut. I'd actually like to see the Cats build a program and a program is more than winning three cross state rivalries in four years. It's a top to bottom statement of excellence. I'll give you an example that has little to do about the game: From the moment you step out of your car at Washington-Grizzly stadium your every moment is choriographed (my spelling again! - don't you have a spell checker on this board?); the tail gates, the Silver Tip Sky Divers, Rob Quist, the music, the announcer, the ROTC color guard, Monte, the Band, the entrance on the field, timeout presentations. You think all that just happens? The last six trips to the Cat stadium have all been variations on the same blandness that makes the atmosphere a little like - well you put a name on it.

So, demand better from your University and it'll come.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Tom

My point wasn't to belittle Don Read or UM's accomplishments over the past 20 years. The records speak for themselves.

My point was that a lot of Grizzly fans seem to consider the last 20 years as the entire history of football and consequently assume that the only football tradition in Montana belongs to the U of M. What's the great Grizzly "tradition" from 1897 - 1986?

You say the Cats should be proud of the last couple of years. We should also be proud of 11 total Big Sky Conference Championships (only 3 less than Montana) and 3 National Championships (one more than Montana), plus the fact we are the only university to win national championships at three different levels. So you see, our program is more than winning three cross state rivalries in four years.

As unlikely as it may seem, there will be a blip in the road, no matter how strong a program is. It's impossible to stay at the very top level forever. Just ask Notre Dame, Penn State, Miami, etc., etc. who have endured some not-so-successful periods in the last 20 years. Hey, but at least you'll still have a nicer stadim and the Silver Tip Sky Divers.

News flash: We don't want the choreographed circus show that is grizzly football! You are just another typical arrogant, condescending griz fan who thinks that everything UM does is perfect, and if anyone else dares not do the same thing or doesn't bow down to anyone lucky enough to root for the griz, then they are missing out on life and are somehow inferior human beings. Get over yourself. I don't want every game to be the exact same - I can't believe you guys don't get bored. Anyone who calls the atmosphere at the Cat/griz game this last Saturday "bland" is just flat-out bitter and ignorant. POOOOOOOORRRRRRR grizzlies!!!!!

Well this horse is fairly tenderized....All I was trying to get an answer for was why the Griz should host a home game, when they were 3rd in the conference. I don't have a problem with the Griz in the playoffs, but it irks me that they got a home game. Chances are they'll win at home. I wanted to see how they would've played on the road against a ranked and formidable opponent. Have a Happy Thanksgiving...heading to Zoola.

Pilgrim, your problem is that you apparently think the whole world revolves around the Griz/Cat game. While we would have loved a win, it wasn't needed from the start. The whole enchilada is greater than the sum of its parts. That's my message. I may be ignorant in your eyes and ears, but I ain't bitter. We are moving ahead. You can too.

Again, Happy Thanksgiving.

Your problem, or one of many, is that you assume that because the griz are so high and mighty, that our season revolves around beating you. Here's something to chew on - I would choose a loss to the grizzlies and a trip to the playoffs over what we have now. Most, if not all, Bobcat fans that I know feel the exact same way. Beating the griz is the smallest, and easiest, of all the goals we set at the beginning of every season. Our playoff fate was sealed before last weekend's game, so we could have moped around and not cared about the game, or we could buck up and cheer our team to victory over our hated rivals. We chose the latter. Doesn't mean we aren't disappointed in not getting a playoff berth, but nothing we could have done on Saturday changed that. So we'll continue to support our team and be happy with the fact that our seniors won the last college game they'll ever play, and look to build for next year.
