Preseason the cats were expected to be National Champion contenders, to at least make the playoffs right? But they didn't. Kramer & squad got only one more win than last year, and really have not vastly improved their overall season record in the last 4 years.
EWU was supposed to win the Big Sky, they tied, & yeah they got the autobid, but they lost some games they really should've won, and really didn't play up to expectations. EWU was up and down, they won big games, and lost games they should've won.
UM did what they were expected to do, but the only way Hauck would've stood a chance to get coach of the year would've been an outright title, which he didn't get.
While Weber went from the gutter to a winning season, and beat EWU, the team that got the autobid. I think McBride was more deserving.
Not taking anything away from Kramer & Wulff, congrats to those two, it just doesn't seem right to me.
I see where you are coming from. I would be willing to bet that if McBride continues upward with this team next year, we'll see him being honored. On a side note, in today's Chronicle, Kramer said that he voted for Coach Hauck because he feels that Hauck and staff did a great job getting a bunch of younger players up to speed and using a lot of individuals during games to do it. Just thought you might find that interesting as I did.

Wow, that is interesting.
Seriously, I'm not meaning to sound whiny about this b/c I don't think Hauck deserves coach of the year either.
If I were voting I suppose it'd go like this
1. McBride
2. Kramer
3. Hauck
4. Wulff
and so on...
Congrats though to Wulff and Kramer, the two big sky coaches that beat the Griz.

If I'm not mistaken the coaches vote for "Coach of the Year". I can only speak for Wulff in that the coaches know a whole lot more than I do and I believe they know that EWU did a great job getting the auto-bid with all the injuries that they absorbed(coaches know to what extent injuries hold). I do think that McBride was the coach of the year...

I know it's political and there's stuff we don't know, but if it's just done on the merits and nothing else:
T-1. McBride - turned around bottom-feeders and made them legit conference contenders in one season
T-1. Wulff - second consecutive playoff appearance for EWU, despite losing most of the seniors to significant injury time at various points in the season... first time in EWU history that they've had consecutive playoff appearances
3. Hauck - despite losing almost all of the offensive core of the team to graduation and fairly low preseason expectations, notched a respectable 8-3 record in the hard-as-nails Big Sky with a freshman skills squad; guided team to yet another share of the BSC title and a record 13th playoff appearance... loses points for not firing Phenecie in a timely manner
T-4. Whoever coaches Portland State - put together a good team, loses points for the team's tendency to underperform considering the second most productive RB in the country played for them
T-4. Kramer - earned a share of the title in what is statistically the toughest conference in the country; notched wins against many top 20 teams during the season... loses points for: team's mediocre performance despite having the best QB in team history and one of the most productive QB's in Big Sky history; being the only team to have a Payton candidate at quarterback who didn't make the playoffs; not making the playoffs with a Payton candidate QB for the second consecutive year; and finally, not making the playoffs for the second consecutive year despite having potential of historic proportions for the second consecutive year; did I mention guided team to underacheivement of epic proportions
6. Lewis, Idaho State - not great, not awful... about what everyone expected given the team's potential and history
T-last. Souers - what can you say?
T-last. Mooshagian - ditto

My votes:
Hauck's team was picked second & finished third with the worst Griz offense in 15+ years; were dominated in both conference losses and barely beat Weber. NO VOTE.
Wulff's team was picked first and BARELY finished there; injuries are excuses & every team has them every year; dominated Cats & Griz but were somehow beaten by ISU & WSU. NO VOTE.
Kramer's team was picked 4th, finished 2nd and was one fumble away from being the SOLE Big Sky Champion; barely beat ISU & WSU. 1/2 vote.
McBrides team I believe was picked 6th and finished 5th but were only a play away from beating the Cats & the Griz. 1/2 vote.
NAU, SAC, ISU, no votes.
If you MADE me pick either Kramer or McBride, I'd take Kramer because the other coaches gave him no chance of winning the Sky and yet he was 1 fumble away from doing just that. McBride brought Weber a long way it seemed, but they did only manage to finish 1 spot better than they were predicted to.
