My thoughts are a little different here regarding playing 1A teams. OSU was a great game for the Cats this year and got us off to a good start even though we lost.

We have tended to play our worst football against lesser teams and my thoughts are that we win all the way around by playing up. There is more money, a learning opportunity, and a rare chance even for a win. I think we focus on what makes us the best BSC team is what guarantees the playoffs.

I'd rather lost 2 1 A games, beat the griz every year and hang banners as BSC champs than than to wait for some committee to politically vote us in. I think we learn more and earn more by playing up than down!

If we want a weak I-AA team, we should get Savannah State to come to Bozeman. That would be a guaranteed victory.

As I was reading through these posts, I was thinking about San Diego. Yes they did go 11-1 but it is a lesser I-AA conference. (btw, who else is in this conf?) This game would be great for us to pick up, even as a home and home deal. Can you say EVIN GROVES? He is from the San Diego area. If we play down there, it helps us with an area that we recruit heavily.

I was very excited for the 2005 schedule. It was a tough one and I think the CATS learned tons from it.

I don't think we should look for teams like Southern Utah and the Dakota schools as likely opponents. We need to look for schools that are easily accessible for transportation reasons. If we need to get a I-A, keep to schools like the upcoming games with Colorado and Minnesota. These schools are easily accessed. Teams like Washington, UNLV, BYU, Utah, Cal, and/ Stanford, not games like Boise St, WA State, Ok State, UNR, Utah State, and/or Fresno State.

We all rip on the griz for taking the D-II teams to the woodshed and how it helps them get into the playoffs and I do not think that we should go down that road. I would think that at some point, we are going to need to schedule some tough I-AA teams on the road, but if we can get those teams into Bozeman, we have a better chance of being a playoff contender at the end of the season.

Even Ft. Lewis?

This was talked about this morning at the coach's corner. I wasn't familiar with the team he mentioned, but he spoke of a San Diego school (D-II?). Also, UC Davis is scheduled for like September 17th. But, they have a commitment to play another team at that time as well. So, they want to play us the weekend before Cat/Griz. Kramer said no way to that. He wants his bye weekend to be before Cat/Griz. So, I don't know what that means in terms of the UC Davis game. Evidentally we play EWU fairly early in the season next year. I wasn't aware of it, but there is a two year cycle in terms of where conference teams are played during the season. The only exception to this is rivalry games which can be moved to the last game of the regular season. Coach K absolutely hates playing the Griz this weekend. He says that unless you can guarantee yourself a top four seed every year, you need two weeks of preparation in order to win a playoff game on the road, should you not get the bid. But, it is what it is as he said.
San Diego is a IAA school, and they went 11-1. They had a hell of a team this year, but play in an extremely weak conference. I think they would be a perfect choice.

Did I mentioned they are coached by Jim Harbaugh?
Yep. That's definitely them as I heard them mention Harbaugh.

Yep even them. I figure you play the D-II team to pad the record so you can play the 1-AA team in the postseason.

As mentioned on this thread-I'd really be excited about San Diego coming in for a game-that could be interesting.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

I'm sorry, I was trying to impress you. I don't know what it means. I'll be honest, I don't think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.

I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Ohh, it's the deep burn! Oh, it's so deep! Oh, I can barely lift my right arm 'cause I did so many. I don't know if you heard me counting. I did over a thousand.

Oh wait, this is about the 2006 schedule...San Diego or one of the other 1-AA mid majors would seem to be a good choice for the 11th game. Anyone but Cal Friggin' Poly.

Thank you. Not the greatest movie in the world, but when Ron told San Diego to go f--- themselves I laughed tears for about 5 minutes. That really struck me funny!

The fact that we are going to play Central Washington is bad enough but this rumor about playing Carroll is ridiculous. What happened to the years when we opened w/Maine, Hofstra or SFA. Even playing Albany is better than CWU. It is at least a win that counts for something.
The reasoning is simple.

Pad the schedule with easy home games, sucker 15k into paying for season tickets based on the tradition in Missoula, then get a few more home games in the playoffs to make more money.

Financially it's a good move. From a fan's standpoint, I would feel ripped off, and I'm sure my Mom will be wondering if they should renew the season tickets next year.

BozoneCat wrote:As much as I hate to say it, I am going to say that we just say "screw it" and schedule a patsy. Maybe a terrible I-AA school or a D-II school, but a patsy. I much prefer to watch competitive games played against good teams, but the playoff selection committee has made it clear that there are no rewards for a difficult schedule. Instead, they hand out seeds to schools that play in totally inferior conferences (Hampton) and schools that pad their record with 2 D-II schools (Texas State). Then they give at-large to inferior teams from inferior conferences (Lafayette) and give preference to teams based on money rather than on-field performance (Montana).

I hate playing crap games against inferior schools, but I hate not being in the playoffs even more. It is time that we concede and work the system just like the other perennial playoff contenders.

Try booking a D2 school it'll help the "playoff push"
