Silver Lining!

Post by gtapp » Tue Nov 22, 2005 12:25 am

If you want to find a silver lining in our "not" making the playoffs:

For those that hope for some coaching changes (ie. O-coordinator, D-coordinator, D-Line, etc.) we may get them. If we had made the playoffs that would probably not happen. So if you assume that changes will be made and that those changes will improve our perfromance we could improve our chances for a NC by not getting into this years playoffs.

Is there really a chance that our O-coordinator might be let go?

Who wants a new D coord? I think MSU finished as the No. 1 defense in the Big Sky.

After seeing these stats, it's hard to justify firing coaches. All I think we need is a dedicated special teams coach.

But if you watch the games everyone knows what to expect as far as our offensive play calling. I am not saying we have to fire Bailey, but we do need some more depth and variety in our play calling.

To be honest this was my worse fear. After the EWU game everyone wanted a change, but now that we beat the Griz we are back to our old selves. We are saying that 7-4 is good enough despite the promise of a home playoff game. I can’t help but think about the Cal Poly and EWU game, both of which we took a terrible beating. We had the 3rd best offense with one of the best QBs in BSC history with great WRs and a good running back (which Bailey didn’t play until 3 games left in the season). We need a change, and I think that change should start with a new Offensive Coordinator. If we don’t see some sort of change we can expect nothing better then a 7-4 season again in 2006.

Keep the 2 Coach K's hire a Special Teams Coach and can Bailey. Not only is a sorry excuse for an offensive mind he is an a$$.

miscues led to short fields a lot of the time

if you're keeping score, France gave us Burgundy wine, cigarettes, berets, B.O., brie and the Napoleon complex-Bill Simmons

Yes, we did have a bunch of turnovers giving the other side short fields, but our run defense was a sieve for much of the year and, in at least the Cal Poly and PSU games, we made pedestrian throwing q.b.s look like Joe Montana. I did just see the stats on another thread that we were first overall in d, but last in run defense. Fortunately, our overall d and run defense looked a ton tighter in the last couple games.

1st in Defense
3rd in Offense

You can't fire the OC or DC!!!!!!

Kramer has to go.

He is ultimately responsible for the W/L record.

The DC is a great coach and a great guy. I hope the Cats can keep him as long as possible.

Our OC is not a great coach or a great guy. He should have been fired years ago, but he was fortunate enough to have good athletes that bailed him out. I think that we have seen the full potential of Bailey, and to be honest I feel like he has failed the Bobcats. It is time to find someone new, someone that can help the offence reach their FULL potential.

Kramer has done a good job for the most part. I do not think this is the time to change our Head Coach, but he must sever ties with Bailey for the good of his own coaching career.

We played well at OSU. At Portland it was a shootout and our run defense stiffened greatly with the return of Kolone and Mollohan (he was not full speed at PSU), At EWU we gave up on our run offense way to early and they took away the pass. Against Cal Poly 2 turnovers changed the whole character of that game. We went from 10-7 to 24-7 and Cal Poly never looked back. This happens even to good teams. Look at the whippin Miami put on V. Tech, and then they turn around a lose to a non ranked team? Some changes will be probably be made. It is rare that they keep the whole staff each year.

Our red zone offense is anemic at best. One classic example took place just last Saturday.

On third & goal from the 1, we run a dive to Groves out of a bunched set. The Griz stuff it, leaving 4th & goal. We line up in the same bunched set (moving EVERY Griz defender to within 3 or 4 yards of the football) and attempt the QB sneak.

I'm no O coodinator, but it seems to me if you call QB sneak, the ONLY offensive players really involved in the play are the center, the 2 guards, and the QB. That being the case, WHY would you run out of a bunched set rather than spread the field, and therefore spread the defense?

If you split a wideout to each side, and then maybe empty the backfield by motioning the tailback out to one side, you remove AT LEAST 3 players from the defensive box AND you make the defense think twice about just plowing into the line at the snap, don't you?

I simply could not believe that we'd sneak out of the formation we did. I knew it was coming; I'm pretty sure the Griz did as well.

I am not a huge Bailey fan, never have been. I do not think that he needs to go though. We have seen flashes of imagination from the offense at various times. I THINK THAT SOMEBODY NEEDS TO TEACH BAILEY HOW TO TURN THE PAGE OF HIS PLAYBOOK, WHEN WE GET STUCK.

We have two really good looking QB's coming up that heave been in the system for three years now. They should be in the same system if we want them to have a chance of succes. (If we go into the CAT/griz game next year as a .500 ball club, we would all be saying that "gee,Carpenter had a whole new system to learn........"

I think that maybe we need to look further down into the coaching staff at some of the position coaches to get some more expereinced coaches that will be dealing directly with the kids, one on one, on the sidelines during the games. Somebody that can make an adjustment or change in technique that will allow our team to be able to overcome adversity during the games.

As the saying goes. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Only, Baily fools no one. I can not remember on trick play all year to keep the defense honest. I was not able to attend or watch every game, So I could be wrong.
