Yes! What a great game! I remember watching so many people that had left the stadium running back to find out what was going on as the place errupted.

Actually I think he had a pretty good supporting cast during the course of his career. Guys like Joey, Kane, Adam, Bolton, Gatewood, Montoya, Toilolo, Roger Cooper, Trunquist, John Taylor, RJ...looks pretty good to me. There's no argument he strapped the team on his back and saved the day more than once. But does anyone want to tell us about Paul Schafer and what he did in the fog in Missoula in '68? Point is, that's been done before...even better.
I'm hearing lots of emotion here. But we are not playing in late November...again. I lay a lot of that at the feet of our team leaders...formost of which is Travis.

That was an AMAZING game!! I remember it :D I was there, standing in the west endzone... wow!!

I just don't understand why Raincat doesn't see the larger picture in what Travis Lulay has done/contributed to this Bobcat football team. Travis wasn't just a QB... he ran the ball, kicked 'er a few times... I don't see very many other QB's doing that! I also never saw that kid give up!

I really think some people will be eating their words, in the future. At least I hope so!!

I have never thought football should retire numbers, no matter how great an athlete preformed in that number. Football teams have over 100 players and every number you retire means that there is going to be one more guy without a number or he shares the number with another player. The only way a number should be retired in football is if we allow 3 digit numbers. Still bugs me when I see someone else wearing that magical 53 though. :(

I think the retiring of numbers should be reserved for someone who is exemplary in the field and in the classroom, but wins a national championship or national award like the Payton, Buchanon, 1st round draft choice etc. otherwise everytime someone has a good career we 'd lose another number. What would we start doing putting letters on the jerseys? 14A 21B 77D 78C?

I think that if we retire Travis' number it cheapens what Ryan Johnson did. He did sort of "put the Cats on his back" against the Griz in 2002 even though Travis threw the pass.

I can't say enough about the way I admire Travis' accomplishments on and off the field, as well as how much he has meant to building the program here. I'm sure he will continue to make us proud as his life progresses. Nonetheless, I think these types of honors should never be awarded this soon. There's a reason halls of fame, etc. required a certain amount of time pass before eligibility.

THe truth of the matter is, the Bob cats can't retire any more numbers, they need to be able to put them on new players. It's not like they can start numbering players 101, 102, etc. I say retire the jersey, but I'm not sure if they can retire the number.

BUT, I totally agree, Travis Lulay is the most phenomenal athlete MSU has had in my memory. MY favorite name for him is the REDHEADED GRIZZLY KILLER. And I don't care about comparisons to DD. Griz fans reading this, I DO NOT CARE ABOUT WHAT DAVE DID. It was a completley different situation. I give the man props, but dude, move on with your lives...

And I don't care that you are in the playoffs, congrats, but this week, I'm an Eagles fan. You know why most 'Cats fans won't be Griz fans? Because most of you have such arrogant gloating jerks for the last 20 years. But here's a statistic for you, the 'Cats may have only won 3 of the last 20 'Cat -Griz games, but it's 3 out of the last 4. And baby, it's only gonna get better... Kramer's chapionship winning percentage in 12 years coaching? 4 chapionships in 12 years. ('97 @ EWU, '02,'03,'05 @ MSU). Face it, MR. Clean knows how to clean up.

MSUCATS: It's not that I don't see the big picture...on the contrary, my problem is I see a HUGE picture. I'm sure Tyler will meet the "test of time". But right now he deserves to be a guest at an awards banquet with the rest of his teammates. Does the team still get to vote for an "MVP" or "man of the Year", etc? Let Travis win that first before we consider hanging up his number.
Hey # 53. I remember when you blew your knee. It screwed up the entire O-line for a while as far as I was concerned. I loved your passion!
