I'm Trying to Stay Calm, But......

Post by Cat in SoDak » Mon Nov 21, 2005 9:12 pm

.....the more posts I read about how "the Cats live to beat the Griz, while the Griz live to win national championships" make it difficult.

I can take the chirps about 13 straight playoff appearances or even outdated comments about "The Streak", but to imply the Cats have turned things around simply because the Griz don't care much anymore is a different story. Anyone who truly believes this nonsense doesn't know a thing about the Cat-Griz rivalry.

I guess the best thing to do is inform those folks that Montana State knows a little bit about playing for national championships as well, considering we have 3. A reminder that football was not invented in 1986 would probably be helpful as well.

SoDak, you're exactly correct. No Griz fan really believes that beating Montana State doesn't matter. All that is is sour grapes talk after a tough loss. I will tell you though, the sentiment of those posts is accurate. We'll trade a loss to MSU for a chance at a deep run in the playoffs EVERY year. The Brawl is huge; Nooga is huger.

Good post GW. It has been asked many times; which would you prefer, beat the griz and stay home or lose to the griz and go to the playoffs? Would you prefer 1-10 and beat the griz or 10-1 and lose to the griz?

You would probably get a lot of people in both camps from UM and from MSU. For me I will always take a win over the griz over a post season apperance or even a winning season. That's just me. Don't assume that I am representative of the majority.

As happy as I am about the outcome of the Cat-griz game on Saturday, I would choose to be in their shoes right now every day of the year. Our season is done, as unjust as that may be, and the griz are preparing for yet another first round home playoff game. I'd rather still be playing football.

Before the streak was over, I probably would have included myself in that group that would rather have been 1-10 with a win against the griz than 10-1 with a loss to the griz. I laugh at that notion now. We have bigger fish to fry than the grizzlies.

The Griz fans care just as much about beating us as we do about beating them and no amount of attempted smack changes that...they seem to be ignoring the fact that we're all quite obviously disappointed about not making the playoffs despite the win on Saturday and share of the conference championship.

As for gtapp's question, I don't want to see MSU going 1-10 ever again. I'll take the 10-1 and I don't much care who the one loss is against!

For those who think we don't care about not making the playoffs-go read the EWU in and post game threads.

The term bittersweat was tossed about a lot after the griz game-Travis Lulay himself described our victory as such.

Yep, I understand. You can't argue with what Montana has built over the past 15 years and there's no way to get there overnight. Our first step was to close the talent gap on the field, which is why the Cat-Griz game is that much more important to MSU at the moment. Competing with Montana helps recruit players and put butts in the seats. Then we can start thinking about consistent playoff appearances and hopefully, home playoff games.

i think everyone here agrees with that. but it's just annoying that after a griz loss guys start talking about passion, and sellouts, and playoffs. our whole season doesn't revolve around the griz. it is huge, and a win is huger! but if we already know that we missed the playoffs, why cant we celebrate a big win over our rival? sorry that for some reason you griz dont like that we took down our goalposts. i don't know why you care. i will say that you should probably get used to it because i have a hunch, that in the future even if the cats are 10-0 and we beat the 1-9 griz, that those babies are coming down! and WHY NOT?

Just wait until they lose this weekend and then go over to Egriz next week and check out how many Griz fans will be eating their young over there. It will clearly show that the Cat/Griz game DOES in fact matter to them :)
