What about the two 9-2 teams who missed the playoffs. If I were one of those guys I'd be really pissed. You have a better record and a team gets in just because of history, I don't think so.

So you make a blanket statement about Cat fans on a thread that has nothing to do with any of the comments you quote (except for calling the UM stadium a dump, which although not a popular opinion, is far from hate speech). Gee, yeah, that's worth trying to muck up an otherwise informative thread over.GonzoGriz wrote:Okay. Here's a start:If you are going to say something that outrageous on anyplace other than the smack board, please be sure to reference what you are referring to. I have a feeling you will have a hard time backing up your statement.
"Bobby appears to me either like guy that is finally secure in his job and doesn't need to rant and rave about losing to the Cats, or he's not long for the UM job and is on his way out. Either way I am very impressed by his classy demeanor this last week....it even makes it hard to hate him...so I'll just have to hate the Griz only!"
"This is going to be a heck of hard fought game today. The Cats are the underdogs yet we have what it takes to win it today. I hate the griz but I give them credit for having a solid football program every year. Hats off to both teams. Let's get it on!!"
"Do us all a favor, putz, go back over to egriz AND STAY THERE. … Are you one of those idiots that wonders why we Cat fans hate griz fans so much? Well, look in the mirror & WONDER NO MORE!"
"You assume that we want to overcome it. I hate the griz, I will always hate the griz, and never in my life would I root for the griz in any circumstance. And I like it that way. "
I didn't mean to limit this to just the use of the word "hate" but that's about all the time I have right now. But particularly I was referring to the abusive (and idiotic) "dump of washfriz" reference in the initial post.
But hey, I could be just misinterpreting things!
Smack board ... that's what it's for.

Last year it was all the home games we had compared to everybody else now it's "we didn't beat anybody good on the road". Instead of pointing the finger at us, why don't you point the finger at your AD? How about next year? Playing at CU with a new QB? How is that going to help your playoff chances, how is that going to help a young QB? I said it at the start of the year, would you rather have a very tough schedule and be home for the playoffs or an easier schedule and be in the playoffs? Why not schedule easier games to build a reputation of being in the playoffs, then when you have a down year you get the benefit of the doubt. I think our scheduling was excellent, set us up for the post season even in a rebuilding year. They did not beat anyone except Cal Poly and that was at home. PSU was at home.

We can all rant and rave about scheduling and who won what in the BSC, but recall that Sagarin rates the BSC as the #1 conference in 1-AA. Because that is so the ole "on any given Saturday..." theme becomes real. Face it Montana friends, we all beat each other up pretty well this season and to prove the point a 4-loss team (remember the coaches and media pre-season #1 pick) gets the automatic bid for the conference!
So, my advice is to invite into the conference a turkey or two so that we can share the bones, as it were. Of course the available gobblers are powerhouses in of themselves from the Great West Conference. So, back to the drawing boards. Perhaps one or more of us should reach for the "Idaho bounce" and try our luck in 1-A? Now there's a way to guarantee 4 home games; but on the other hand the Bobcat stadium could be truely upgraded to hold 30K with a decent sound system and nobody in the seats.
The possibilities are endless.

Uh, check out what conference they are in. Unfortunately, just because they are I-AA does not mean they at the same level as the playoff teams. There are some weaker conferences in I-AA that don't offer the scholarships that the playoff conferences offer.BOBCAT wrote:What about the two 9-2 teams who missed the playoffs. Do you really think those teams could have put up that record playing the schedule MSU played? I don't think so.

It's a scam
I'm happy to see my Eastern Eagles in the playoffs again this year, but they should be there with the 'Cats instead of the Griz. I saw both teams in person and there's no doubt in my mind the Bobcats were far better. Evidently, a team's record and ability to draw money are the only criteria necessary for preferential treatment. Imagine this scenario. You're part of the commitee that decides which teams will gain entrance into the 1-AA playoffs. Grudgingly, you acknowledge that EWU receives the autobid from the toughest conference in America. However, you send them packing halfway across the country. Looking at the rest of the Big Sky you see that the second and third place teams have identical league records. Overall, the Griz have one more win than the Bobcats but did not record one road victory over a high-quality opponent, and in fact lost to the Bobcats on the road. Additionally, they were beaten at home by EWU and included Ft. Lewis as a home win. the Bobcats on the other hand had to travel to EWU, OK State, and Portland State, and played a tougher home schedule. So how do you decide which team will get the invitation to your playoffs? You ignore everything that's happened on the field and think about all the money a game or two or three in Missoula would bring in. See you next year Bobcats. If I'm missing something other than the usual 4th grade crap about why this is fair, I'm willing to listen. However, shouldn't the quality of your football team matter most?

I think that you are forgetting two important facts. 1. You played both those teams at home while we played them both on the road. 2. We dominated the Griz in every aspect of the game.Re/Max Griz wrote:Another way to look at it, both msu and UM lost to a 1A team, both also lost to EWU, but Montana beat the other two teams the cats lost to, Cal Poly and PSU.
Actually, you are forgetting 3 things. Eastern Washington dominated you in every aspect of the game as well.
So how on god's green earth can any Griz fan justify a home playoff game while EW goes on the road and the Cats stay home.
My explanation.....The Griz are perennially OVER-RATED!

To a certain extent I believe that may be true this year. I hope you understand, however, that this argument is to a certain extent self defeating. One of the reasons the Big Sky is considered the best conference this year is because of the Griz ranking. It is my understanding that the Big Sky is now considered the second best conference after last weekend. EWU and MSU wins did not offset the losses by Idaho State, UM and NAU.Cat Scratch Fever wrote:

As much as I wished Kramer would have campaigned for a playoff spot for us, the fact remains that we won only 1 road game all year.
I think we are one of the 16 best teams and better than the Griz, but the fact is the Griz had a better resume. And whether it fair or not the way 1-AA does thing there was never any doubt that the Griz were getting a home game after being ranked in the top 10 all year. They simply beat the teams we didn't and had wins on the road, even though they weren't power houses they still had 3 road wins.
If anyone should be pissed it should be Youngstown and it wasn't the Griz who took there spot.
Now I am quiting this board because defending the Griz goes against everybone in my body.

The devil made me do it the first time... the second time I done it on my own.
