Players' Attire on TV
The "Kramer Attire" thread struck a nerve with me.
At the beginning of the game's telecast on Saturday, there were clips where the starting players introduced themselves. The Griz were wearing their jerseys. The Cats were wearing street clothes and hats--some of them turned backwards. The Griz looked presentable. Some of our guys looked like bums.
Now, I don't know under what conditions these intros were shot, or where, or when. Maybe it was unavoidable that they couldn't wear their jerseys--I seriously doubt it. But I was quite embarassed that our kids were allowed to wear, or would even think of wearing, hats for this. Total lack of class.
Question: I have not been in a situation to see the players on road trips since Kramer arrived. How is their dress otherwise?

The Friz player intros must've been done earlier in the season since it was that station in Missoula that broadcast the game. It was the same for all Griz telecasts that I saw.
I don't know what the conditions or time frame that the Cats had for their intros, but wish they could've had their jerseys on and not the stupid gangsta look that some of the players had..
On a side note the intros should've been before kickoff, not trying to fit them in between plays..

This totally surprises me as Kramer is a stickler for their presentation. I remember a few years back after they broke the streak and won the conference, the players were announced at halftime basketball game. Many were dressed like NBA players with the throwback jerseys and baseball caps. Kramer put his foot down hard, and the next year all players were in dress jeans and jerseys.

Yes indeed. Winning is one thing, but doing it with style and class shows integrity and discipline. I think you are right, we should have every player that has a tatoo kicked off the team. Anyone with an ear ring, also gone. Anyone that wears a hat that has a really rounded brim or very straight. Also, the hat should only be MSU offical gear. Anyone that doesn't wear a nice shirt, gone.
Then if anyone has a nick name, that should go. (Unless someone on the nation gives them that nick name and then only if we all like it).
We should .......
You have to be kidding. Kids are kids. Let them have a life and enjoy it!!!

Count me as one who was embarrassed by some of our players intros as well.
Even if those were filmed at the last minute (Friday night, I'd guess), I don't think it's asking too much to have a POLICY regarding televised player intros.
If you're going to wear a hat, how about one representing the school that is paying for your education?
As for the nicknames, I'm sorry Rick and Tremaine (or was it Jevon?), but that kind of stuff is ridiculous. To call yourselves Greatwood & Superstar on statewide TV shows a "me-first" attitude and IMO is part of the reason we are NOT going to the playoffs this Saturday.
Hopefully Kramer will hear about this garbage during the off-season & we won't see a repeat of it.
I've enjoyed collecting my bets from griz fans this morning but ALL of them have commented on our "gangstas".

I personally like seeing the guys enjoy themselves and be themselves. Whatever gets you in the mood to play football, let them do it.

Call me old school but even today most Americans love a professional presentation/atmosphere/attire. Be honest now, when conducting business or meeting someone for the first time for professional reasons, what do you prefer to see in that person; a dressed down hippy/gang banger/redneck or someone that is wearing professional business attire who treats you with dignity & respect?? The clothing doesn't necessarily make one better than the other or smarter or wealthier or more handsome/beautiful BUT the person who dresses and acts like a true profession usually gains your confidence. True.
The .com anything goes of the 90s is over. Fashions do change with time. Maybe the radical 60s & ugly 70s fashions will dominate corporate America & the world again yet somehow I doubt it. Even Bill Gates and Steve Jobs wear suits now.
So what's this all have to do with the Cats' TV introductions?? Everything about being a professional (or how not to in this case). Obviously we Alumni/Boosters/QB Club members should not allow our University to let our players dress like Bums on TV.
If we can raise enough money to buy these guys Letter Jackets then we damn sure can raise enough money to purchase these guys half the cost (or all of it in severe financial need cases) of a dress suit jackets, dress pants, white shirt with a professional tie (no cartoon characters, hot sauce lables, rock/rap band names ect...) is MANDATORY. The player can purchase his own wing tips...we're not a total social handout agency. Earning part of what is given to you is a good thing.
What the heck am I saying?!?!? This is PC America. Let's just lower the standards bar so we can sink to a newer and lower level. Come on President Gamble, Mr. Fields and Coach Kramer!!! Let the inmates run the joint. Oops, it looks like they already are.........

To answer one question
Yes the Griz intro was shot earlier, prior to the 1st game KPAX televised. I remember it because when Eric Allen introduces himself he's looking all over and seems to sway around as well, it looked odd, and they've run that into all season.
Watching the game on Saturday I was equally surprised to see that although my TV was muted and the radio was turned on, it appeared that most of those guys said more that just their name, is that correct? Anyways it was wierd, some in ballcaps, others wearing what appeared on TV to be sweats, maybe the KPAX crew caught these guys before/after practice on friday or something?

I do not mean to sound patronizing, but I like your questioning and demanding attitude here about the appropriateness of dress, among other things for your football team. This shows this old grizzfan that the Cats are seeking respectibility on all levels, not just that which they justly deserve on the playing field. You guys are maturing and have only Big Time in your future.
So much of this is marketing. Griz players, since the era of Don Read, have been admonished to talk "vanilla" to the press, show up with kids at school and be admirable representatives. We've had some warts, on the other hand, for sure.
I sense some good things for the Cats. You have a great coach in Mike Cramer and are on the cusp of putting all the pieces together. Other posts moaned about the Griz enterance into the playoffs built on past reputation and the dollars that cheeks in the seats represent. Face it, you want that too. Great team, solid players, good marketing, fantastic venue, reputation - nothing wrong with that. Go for it!
But remember: Go Griz!!!

GANGSTAS. you have to be kidding me. What makes them think they are gangstas instead of just kids and young men having fun?El_Gato wrote:Count me as one who was embarrassed by some of our players intros as well.

MSU has one of the cleanest teams, if not the cleanest team, we played all year.
Did we have a player hit a QB well after the play was over, the whisle blew and the game basicly over last year? ESPN played that over and over and said it was one of the cheapest shots they have EVER SEEN. Isn't that player still playing in his nice jersey looking good? Oh, that's right, he looks good and can't be a gansta. Looks are more important than actions.
It makes me wonder if there is another reason that people would call them ganstas?
Makes me wonder.

I don't care when these intros were taped, the Staff & the Players should have had more respect for themselves and the University and approached this process more appropriately.
Although, I never laughed so hard when "Greatwood's" intro came on! First, I think it is a 15 yard flagrant foul to give yourself a nickname! Second, when you are the third most productive reciever on a team... maybe you should come up with something closer to reality.

BobcatLionfan,
Have you EVER seen ANY bigtime, DI college program let their players "have a life & enjoy it" the way a number of our players did during their intros?
Sorry, it doesn't happen.
The point, that you are clearly missing, is that these kids are REPRESENTATIVES of our university and as such, they DO HAVE expectations to live up to.
If what happened didn't bother you, BULLY for you but it OBVIOUSLY caught the attention of a # of Cat AND Griz fans, and in a negative way. Look at it this way: IF they had been wearing their jerseys and/or MSU caps instead of the wide variety we saw, and IF they had eschewed providing us with their own nicknames, do you think ANYONE would be talking about it? No, obviously not, and that is the point.
As to your claims of racism, don't go there. I used a word that was used by a # of folks following the game. You don't know me at all so I wouldn't start insinuating things about my views on race.

I was embarrassed too when those guys were introducing themselves. I ACTUALLY said OMG out loud and put my hands over my mouth in disbelief!! I then proceeded to look around at everyone else to see what their reaction was... Griz fans were LAUGHING and Bobcat fans were shaking their heads, they were JUST AS SHOCKED AS I WAS!
Common guys... When you say you're playing for pride... don't pull that garbage!!

I was very careful in not saying it was your opinion. It was clearly noted that you said it was stated by others and I was wondering why "PEOPLE" would say that. I still think it is a valid question why they would say "gangstas" for simple hats. They appeared to be having fun.El_Gato wrote: As to your claims of racism, don't go there. I should probably be mortified by the look presented, but I guess I'm just not. I'll work on what is wrong and see it I to can be shocked that kids are kids.
Again, I was not attacking you El Gato, so relax, you shouldn't be sensitive about reporting what others say. I was questioning why would THEY use that term. "Gangsta" is actually a black rap oriented term. It just doesn't apply here. Actions mean more to me than a silly look and the MSU team's actions on the field are not gangstas and I don't really hear about it off the field (or else Kramer jumps all over that person and they are then watched very carefully).
I was wondering, does this picture look like a couple of "gangstas", it's from the official UM web site of Lex and someone. I don't think it does, but what do I know. Both head coverings in the picture are just that.

I was watching Monday Night Football tonight and was outraged by the Gangstars that were shown during the player anouncements. Hats on, Hats backward, du rags, and on and on.
We should call up the NFL and put in a complaint that they are corrupting our players and setting a very poor example.
