Missoulian on the Griz OC

Post by MaZooLaGriz » Sun Nov 20, 2005 9:10 am

Thought you'd like to read a comment from our local Griz opinion writer, Rial Cummings, in today's Missoulian. The title of his article is:
"The Brawl as predictable as UM's offense".
------------------------------
"The more glaring failure rested on UM's offensive coaches, who were outschemed and outsmarted at every turn.

The Griz attack hasn't just struggled late in the season, it's morphed into a narrow, predictable dud - unable to stretch defenses or even keep them off balance."

------------------------------
There will be an opening or two around here, in case some of your coaches are looking.

What surprised me about the Griz offense at first was just that Hilliard didn't get all that many carries. He had a couple bursts but couldn't find a rhythm because then they'd do a 5 yard pass or something. But then I read that Hilliard wasn't healthy, so that explains a little, but not much. You still have Waller behind him that can run the ball well. It didn't make sense, and the Cat defense played the best they've played all year.

Is Lex prone to migraines? I can't even imagine playing a football game yesterday with my head just pounding from one of those.

Kudos to him for even suiting up if he did indeed have one.

What I couldn't understand is that we never ran up the middle more. Every run play seemed to be a stretch play to the outside, which didn't work. With the field the way it was, I think running up the middle was more conducive to the conditions (i.e what the Cats did).
