Prior to the fall signing period, it appeared that Anthony Jones was going to wait things out. The crafty 6-foot-6, 205-pound forward originally from North Richland Hills planned on playing his sophomore season at Seminole State College in Oklahoma out, and hopefully catch the eyes of more college coaches. But as it turns out, he won't have that burden on his shoulders. Jones has gone ahead and signed a LOI to play at Montana State.
"Anthony decided that he didn't want to wait and take any chances," said Seminole State head coach Thomas Mills. "He decided to go with the bird in the hand. He likes that he can contribute right away to a team that's at the top of their conference. I know they really like him too."
Mills noted that Montana State is planning on using Jones at the power forward spot, and he feels that should suit his abilities on the basketball floor. The Bobcats had been the one program that had been recruiting Jones from the start, and after he had made a successful official visit to Bozeman this fall, that persistence paid off in getting his signature. With his decision now made, Jones can concentrate on the season at hand, although it's unfortunately gotten off to a little bit of a slow start.
"He's still kind of fighting an injury that he suffered in the pre-season and he hasn't quite recovered from that," Mills said. "But he's doing OK right now. We expect him to make a full recovery and to have a major impact for us this season.
While Jones has signed, Mills indicated that one of his other Texans on his roster, Robert Lee, will wait until the spring before making any decisions on his college future.
