Cats #4 seed take on Idaho State #5 Thursday evening. Sac State is #1 seed and hosting the tournament.
Does anyone know if we have a shot at winning? Is there any kind of automatic bid at stake?
Cat/griz week sidenote: For the 3rd?? year in a row, the mighty griz fail to qualify for the Big Sky volleyball tourney.
Volleyball Tourney starts Thursday

14-14 overall, 7-7 in the Big Sky is far below what I expected from this team this season. The Cats lost only 1 key player from a team that finished 3rd last year so I felt they had a great chance to improve on that finish & perhaps even surprise folks with a Big Sky championship (regular season).
For some reason, however, this team never really seemed to "click". I attended 7 matches this season and it's obvious we have some excellent players (Zantos, Malyurek, Stonehouse, Kelly) but they simply never seemed to get anything consistent going, even against inferior teams. Setting is critical and I do know that the team struggled to adjust to the loss of Kamber Kelly. I hope that Sesler goes on to become an all-conference setter down the road, but the fact is that she & the rest of the team never seemed to develop any consistent chemistry.
As far as the Big Sky Tournament, I would say they should beat ISU, but I'd make them an underdog in any matches after that but not due to a lack of talent, IMO.

Grizzlies: 2-5 when it matters most

What a suprise! Our VB has been horrible since the Best's took over but they seem to get no heat. I don't understand it. As nobody in the Athletic administration gives a flying turd about VB hereWolfPtCat wrote:Cats #4 seed take on Idaho State #5 Thursday evening. Sac State is #1 seed and hosting the tournament.

I think this team played their best volleyball last weekend against ISU and WSU. I saw the ISU game and they seemed to get better in each game, or ISU got worse. But they seem to be playing their best ball at the right time. Who knows what they'll do? Maybe they can surprise some people.
GO CATS!

My name is Steve, if you'd like to know.

I do not know if anyone attended the Friday and Saturday matches or not ...I did and they were probably the best the team has played. Hopefully this will spill over to the conference tourney. I think the team has finally found some consistency and moving Stonehouse to the right side allows for a more potent attack from all over as long as Viren continues to play as well as she did on the weekend. I still think Stonehouse is a better left side hitter but maybe with some work who knows. Stonehouse also added some much needed blocking on that right side. It was a joy to finally see a talented team play to their potential.
