UC (Don't call us Cal) Davis on for next season

UC Davis is coming to Bozeman next fall. Maybe we'll have better luck against them than Cal Poly?

UC-Davis returns the top QB and WR in the Great West for next season. They also have a real good defense that has only given up over 20 pts. twice this year.
One other non-conf. game to schedule. It would be smart to play someone like S. Utah or some bad I-AA team from a bad I-AA conference in Bozeman.
The BSC schedule will need to get shuffled with the addition of No. Colo., but home games could be UC-Davis, UNC, PSU, EWU and Weber, plus a crummy I-AA. Road games: Colorado, Montana, NAU, SSU, and ISU.
Looks like 2006 revolves around the UC-Davis game, going 2-1 in non-conf. and going 6-2 in the league.
Just need to win all the home games, and beat NAU, SSU and ISU on the road and you have a 9-2 record. This "should" be doable. But watch Fields schedule NDSU on the road.

The NDSU road game is set up currently for 2007 I believe. I just don't see MSU going to only 5 home games in a season. I only hope that that second Non-Conf team we bring in is a I-AA school. I would hate to have to bring in a D-II team to play, just aren't as fun to watch.

I would love to see us schedule ANY I-AA team in Bozeman for our 3rd non-conference game. Actually, it might be a good idea to go ahead & sign a 2 year deal with a team like SDSU or USU and play them at THEIR place next year, since we're playing NDSU on the road in 2007; that way we'd ensure a I-AA non-con game in Bozeman in 2007. If I remember correctly, we're already scheduled to play a DI "money game" on the road in 2007 (can't remember the team); with that & NDSU already away from home, we MUST schedule a home non-con game.

I also agree. The SFA or Gardner Webb games are a lot better and only help the conference down the road. With the addition of Northern Colorado things change quite a bit with each team now having 8 conference games each season - that is until we are allowed to play 12 games each season. I like next year's schedule so far. If we add a decent I-AA foe at home it looks like:

Home
Portland State, Weber State, Eastern Washington, UC-Davis, N. Colorado (???) and hopefully another I-AA

Away
Montana, Idaho State, Sac. State, NAU, and Colorado

If all works out well then I will be able to be at 8 and maybe even 9 games next season. I made 8 this year. Not too shabby - let's hope the wife buys into this plan like she did this season.

If that was for me, Rob, I know. I was talking about 2007; it seems to me there were 3 DI's announced last year, OSU-2005, Colorado-2006, and I can't remember who in 2007.

Rumor had it around the board before the season that we had inked Oklahoma for 2007. I even swear I remember seeing a press release that mentioned it and I think the Billings Gazette put it in an article a few months ago. Have heard nothing more though so I kind of doubt it is going to happen.

People were throwing around Oklahoma for 2007, but that has been shown to be incorrect. I'd think no money game and a home game instead is in order since MSU already has a game with NDSU on the road scheduled. No way do you want to have two road non-conf. games out of three. I'd rather have a win over a crummy I-AA non-conf. team at home than a close loss to a good I-A. Had that been the case this year, MSU would be 7-3 going into this weekend with a chance at the playoffs. Drop OSU and add Valparaiso and things would be a whole lot different right now.

I've heard Mr. Fields & Coach K casually mention Minnesota.

I would like to see us to play either University of Washington (#1 city Cat grads move to for jobs) or Washington State (close to enough for a lot of MSU fans to travel to from MT, ID & WA.). Boise State would be a great game too. Both Colorado & Colorado State are good teams for MSU to play. Other to teams to consider playing for $$$$$ include BYU and Utah. Oh, excessive costs travelling to/from the Oregon schools cut into our profits. Not a good fit unless they really sweeten the money pot.

I say we take the Fresno State approach. "We will not dodge or run away from scheduling any football program. We will play anyone, anytime, anywhere. Just show us the money!!" I'm serious. Playing a D1 program each year is a good thing for MSU. Not only financially but for recruiting purposes and getting our name out to bigger media outlets.

I have to disagree with you. MSU would get more out of recruiting (and getting its name out) by getting to the playoffs at the end of the year than it will by playing a I-A team at the start of the year. The FSU approach may work for them, but they don't need 8 wins to get a bowl game just 6 and their conference is easy pickings for them. MSU hasn't had a one loss conf. season since 1984.
So if you want to play all the top dogs, then forget about ever getting to the playoffs unless MSU wins the Big Sky.

Your point has much truth especially the playoff side BUT my point is the money part only which does lead to recruiting to some extent.

Certainly being in playoff games are a better source of recruiting than playing D1 teams (well, maybe). However, the D1 games pay the bills. We don't have a Mr. Washington type (i.e. Billionaire) who wants to assist with some "seed money."

So the arguement can go like this: No big time facilities; No big time recruits. OR You schedule some pansey arse teams to help pad your record. Now paying for home field playoff games is a good thing in the long run IF you can get to the playoffs. Frankly, my team, THE MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY BOBCATS, has no money or playoff games. Now What???

BTW, I forgot to list Fresno State and San Diego State as possible $$$$$ games for MSU. Hoqwever, these are not good games since the CATS always get side tracked with families in California.

Don't do it Mr. Fields; don't do it!!! Coach K, break out the defibulator & smelling salts the next time we play in California.

You make a good point about Dennis Washington. It must be nice to have the 93rd richest man in America (2005: $2.5 billion) in your backyard. I wonder if anyone has a compilation of what he's invested into that school and sports program.

To my knowledge he has only donated 1 million to athletics as a payment in kind when his company built the stadium.
