Yep! And the Griz just got him!!!mslacat wrote:I have just heard/read that Montana State could be close to getting a commitment from Gordon Chase 6-foot-5, combo forward Sheridan JC (originally from Baltimore, MD) for 2006-07 season. Think Kamar Davis with a perimeter game.

Hmmm. If this guy is supposed to remind me of 'ol K.D. then he must have been looking for a school with a strong intersession program.Re/Max Griz wrote:Yep! I posted an article earlier about this kid. This is prime recruiting time for basketball. There should be a fair amount of basketball recruits in town at every home football game win baby win. Ask the basketball coaches the odds of us landing a kid is exponentially greater if they come a week-end in which we win.
Davis Honed In On Big Sky School
With the start of basketball season still a little ways away, Cory Davis can focus on his college recruitment a little bit. The quick 5-foot-10, 160-pound point guard from West Salem High School is currently sitting on one scholarship offer, and things have been moving rapidly with that Big Sky school. He's got in-home and on-campus visits scheduled with them in the month of September, and there is a chance he could make a call this fall.
"I still have an offer from Montana State, and they're coming down to visit me on the 13th," Davis said. "They want me to come and visit, so I'm doing that the weekend of the 24th. They've told me that they really want me to come through there and that I'm their number one choice."
Since Montana State has been his only offer, he's done a little research into the school and the program, but he's looking forwards to the visits. He's especially looking forwards to the official visit, where he'll get a chance to see all the surroundings as well as catch the team during workouts.
"I want to see what their playing style is like," Davis said. "The coaches seem pretty cool and they've said that their playing style is uptempo. I also want to see what the school is like - everything that I've heard is that it's beautiful out there."
At this point, if Davis wants to sign in the fall, it appears that Montana State is his best option. He's aware of that, but he can't help but think if there might be something else out there if he waits until the spring. Portland State, Montana, and Idaho were some of the other schools that had shown interest late in the summer.
"I am going to visit, and if I like it, I might verbally commit," Davis said. "But I don't know yet. I mean, there's a possibility (I could commit), but it's not too strong right now. If I do really good this year, I might have some (other options)."

This kind of stuff gets me going. Man its like the two Montana schools just don't believe that there is any talent in their own state. There is plenty of it. Can't they wait a year? There will be three or four. What else irks me is how they both rely on the J/C fix. You don't build a program by doing that. Weber had a good run there for a while in the late 90's because they built a program.

That's because there isn't much. Sorry, but that is the reality. There may be one or two kids from Montana that truly can make an impact, but the rest of the scholarships have to go to out-of-staters. I still don't understand why this bugs some people so much. If everything were equal and the coaches gave the scholly to the out-of-stater, then I could understand being upset - but everything isn't equal.cats22 wrote:This kind of stuff gets me going. I'll agree with you 100% on this. I wouldn't want more than one JC a year, not because these kids can't make an impact or aren't good players, but because it is hard to build the chemistry and unity that 4 or 5 years together does.cats22 wrote:What else irks me is how they both rely on the J/C fix. ************** Rumor Alert ***************
I have heard some buss, that we are could be close to getting a JC commitment(s) from a couple athletes. Anthony Jones 6'6" athletic forward from Seminole State College (OK) and Clarence Juillett 6'6" another athletic forward from College of the Sequoias (CA)as two kids who have, or may be ready to commit to the Cats. Clarence Juillett appears to be a typical 6-6 smallish power forward that Durham has been successful with in the past. First team all Conference as a Freshman with 12.5 pts, 7.5 rbs, and 62% fg shooting. (only took 6-3pt attempts and missed them all) Clarence is also a French citizen attending school in the US. Did not find much about Anthony Jones but at 205 lbs could be a small forward type? MSU has 5 seniors this year and with commitments from 2 high school kids already, I have heard they are done recruiting High school kid for the fall and may sign as many as 3 JC's. Take this for what it is worth. my best sources come from people how live in Bozeman, and this info came from someone out side the State.

I mentioned this guy above. He visited campus on Oct. 8
Jones Settling in at Seminole State
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TexasHoops.com
Seminole State College may be located in Oklahoma, but with half of its roster from the Lone Star State, the Trojans could be an honorary Texas JC. Anthony Jones is one of the Texans that will be counted on for big-time production this season. The crafty 6-foot-6, 205-pound forward who prepped at Richland High School is currently receiving some looks at the Division I level, but may delay any decision until after November's signing period.
"Anthony may wait until the spring to sign," said Seminole head coach Tom Mills. "His recruitment has been fairly light and it's not quite to his satisfaction right now. He visited Montana State recently and he liked it, but he didn't come come and say that's where I want to sign. He thinks it's an option but he wants to keep all his options open."
One of his other current options includes Hartford, which has been talking to him regularly, and other schools such as UT-San Antonio and Houston have also shown interest. A big sophomore year would do some good in helping Jones get his recruitment to where he wants it to be, and his coach is expecting that out of his forward.
"I think he's definitely a player that can help some people," Mills said. "He's a tremendous athlete who was a low-block prescence for us. He can score in many different ways and he's a good shot-blocker and pretty good competitor. He was a little up-and-down his freshman year, but this year he'll need to be one of our main guys."
Several of the other Texans on this year's Trojan roster are also receiving Division I recruiting attention. Mills indicated that Robert Lee could very well be a fall signee (a story on TexasHoops.com will be forthcoming) and freshmen Robert Jarvis and David Thomas have been impressive in practice so far.

The Griz and Cats were recruiting Coston also. About the time the Griz are said to got the commit from the 7'-0" Aussie (not to doubt or confirm this rumor) they appeared to stop recruiting Coston. When MSU received its commitment from Corey Davis they essentially quit recruiting high school kids for the fall, and told some kids they may revisit the kids in the late (spring recruiting period). The Cats are looking at signing 2 JC kids in addition to their two high school kids this fall (or so I hear). The Griz should have 4 scholies and the Cats 5 scholies this year. I hear the Cats want to keep at least one scholarship open for the spring. That will give them some flexibility after the season to plug some wholes.grizindahouse wrote:MslaCat, found this and remembered you mentioning him before.

Micheal Taylor has narrowed his list to Eastern Washington and U.C. Irvine

im about 50-50 with ya on this one. i agree with you assessments more when we are talking about the football field moreso than the basketball court. i think every year for as long as i can remember there have been maybe 2 players in the state good enough to play d-1 ball. if you just think back to the mid 90's you can pick the best players in the state that ended up playing for the cats or griz. hatler, warhank, sprinkle, camel, leachman, chavez, sullivan, lazosky, faaborg, riddle, dissly, durham, criswell, ludtke(sp), durr, and lynch are all guys who were the best in the state of montana. but realistically, who really panned out for there squad? hats, warhank, sprinkle, camel, criswell, and warhank i think were the best. lazosky was a decent player. sully and faaborg were ok although i was a little afraid when either had the ball! chavez, ludtke and riddle didn't make it. and the jury is still out on dissly, durham, lynch and durr. while i dont want to take anything away from these guys, i just dont ever feel like durr and lynch really belong. as far as i can see, out-of-state recruiting has been far more successful for the cats and griz b-ball than football. imo.BozoneCat wrote:That's because there isn't much. I'm confused - isn't that basically what I was saying? My point is that we do try to get Montana kids when they have D-I talent, but there just aren't many kids from this state who have what it takes to make an impact on a Division I basketball team. As a result, we have to go out of state - which doesn't bother me, and I can't quite understand why it seems to bother some other people.

ya bozone, i just didn't clarify. i'm with you. i just tend to disagree with cats22. imo i think there are highschool football players in mt who the cats need to pursue to make the team better. otherwise the griz land them and before you know it they are starters playing for a national championship, i.e. adam hoge! but as far as b-ball, both the cats and the griz pursue the 1 or maybe 2 players capable of playing at the d-1 level. and if anyone thinks that there have been these caliber of players in-state in the last decade that slipped through the cracks let me know. 'cause i even mentioned guys that were the best in highschool, and very mediocre in college. did the cats or griz miss someone cats22?BozoneCat wrote:I'm confused - isn't that basically what I was saying?
