Recruiting Folly

Post by G.W.Bush » Mon Nov 14, 2005 1:22 pm

I recently heard that Kramer invited Desin, Selle and some other Billings football players down to Bozeman to watch the Sac. State game. The players were given Pepsi Zone tickets to watch the game. I was shocked to hear that they got arguably the worse tickets available at our stadium. Well that isn't even the worse of it. Kramer was going to give the players a tour of our stadium Saturday morning before the game. The players were supposed to be there at 7am, but Kramer forgot to get someone there to unlock the place. The players stood around the stadium for about 45 minutes before someone showed up to give them the tour. I really felt let down by Kramer after hearing this story. I thought we wanted to get some of these Montana players? This is not the best approach to get commitments from our instate players. There is no excuse for such a foolish mishap. This instance really makes me feel like Kramer doesn’t care if we get Montana player. I can assure you there is truth behind this story, because I heard it from two different sources. One is a booster and the other has connections in the athletic facilities. This is truly a shame.

The same kind if thing happened with McIntyre and Noel from Helena a few years back and similar "lackadaisical attitude" with Carpenter and Mike Ferriter when they visited. These kinds of stories tell me that possibly they don't care if they get Montana players... or they feel that the players are just visiting MSU to get a free game pass after they've already made up their mind to to go UM. The latter sounds more like Kramer.

We need all the help we can get to win over some of these kids. The gria already have a huge advantage and this will not help.

As each season has passed, I have felt more and more like Kramer has no interest in Montana players. I think Kramer only wants California and Oregon players. From my understanding, MSU has/had a real shot at getting Selle and Desin.

GW,

Looks like your information is inaccurate (AGAIN; how's that whole Iraq thing going? :wink: );

there was a Flathead recruit down there for the same game/weekend and he absolutely RAVED about the school, the coaches, the atmosphere, the treatment he received; his overall impression of MSU was very positive.

I'll not let the "Cat out of the bag" on this player yet, but he liked everything so much, his mother told me last weekend that he'll walk-on if he has to but obviously they're hoping for a scholarship offer.

El Gato,

Are you sure he was down there with the Billings players? My sources are pretty good.

while i have no real sources, i was at that game, and heard talk from some guys around me that the players were on the sideline with the team. one of those things where a guys says, hey, there's selle and desin down there. i looked, and there were definitely kids that you could tell weren't on the team hanging on the sideline together watching the game. but like i said, i don't know what the kids look like. but people said it was them, so i went with it. doesn't mean anything though. anyone else have any info? 'cause if this is true we can kiss some more in-staters goodbye and watch them excell for the griz like many other montana kids have.

GDub,

All I know is the Flathead recruit's Mom told me that her son had a great time; she mentioned that there WERE some Billings West players there as well and that he found them pretty "stand-offish"; according to her, the rest of the players all mixed together pretty well but the West players kept to themselves.

well, i wasnt at that one so let's hear it guys. is this crap the truth? if we aren't going to put any effort into landing these montana kids, why do we invite them here at all? may as well ignore them completely, and focus on the better out-of-state-guys 'cause we all know that while we have landed SOME good ones, just because they are from california and washington doesn't always mean they are better!
