Last Night
Last night my favorite team won and my favorite team I normally love to watch lose, lost. A football fans dream day right? Funny thing is I woke up this morning feeling as I do when the Griz have lost the evening before. An hollow feeling in my stomach, a sadness. I'm left scratching my head though. Why am I feeling this way? My favorite team won and the team I most like to watch lose, lost in a big way.
I go to my computer and look to see what has been posted on egriz over night. Ah, just as I thought. Spoiled fans complaining that the margin of victory wasn't big enough. I find my way to bn.com and read a couple of threads. Ah, just what I thought. Envious fans wanting more of what the spoiled fans at Egriz have but rarely appreciate. Griz fans rubbing noses in the spoils. Worse yet. Lynch mobs gathering to take their heads.
And then I understand the empty feeling in my gut. I knew I would see the spoiled fans. I knew I would see dissatisfied fans. Finally, I knew that, out there somewhere were a lot of spent kids, and coaches, cats and griz alike, wondering why their fans don't think their best is good enough.
It's not all about favorite teams winning and least favorite teams losing. What it is really all about is kids, bobcats and griz alike splling their guts, giving us their all, all in hopes of winning our favor.
As a Griz fan I am here to tell you that the Bobcats put out a great product this year and I enjoyed every minute I had the opportunity to watch it. Being able to watch both the Griz and the Bobcats each week is truely twice the fun and has opened my eyes to the other Montana Football. You have a good thing going over there in Bozeman and I only hope it keeps getting better. Congrats on the great season.
This being Griz/Cat week I am taking a novel approach to the game. I am looking forward to the game as much as ever, but in a differnet way. I am a Montanan. This year my favorite team will be battling it out with my second favorite team. May the best Montanans win. It doesn't get any better than that.

Hats off to Elkmcc. A fair & honest post. Partner, here's a handshake wishing you a good game on Saturday. The loser buys the drinks after the game.
BTW, if you really are a griz, I'm thinking ShakerMaker and the griz faithful are going to disown you for your absurd post. Oh well, plenty of room for you on our bandwagon. See you at the tailgate parties and at the game.
May both teams fight hard and play well. GO CATS!!

Thanks for some perspective, Elk. There is no question in my mind that the Bobcats fought very hard to win that game, but ultimately fell short. I think clearer heads will prevail today after sleeping on yesterday's game.
GO CATS!
It's always a good day to be a Bobcat fan!

My name is Steve, if you'd like to know.

Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

I'm not as miserable as last night-which was probably as down as I have ever felt about the Bobcats. But I'm still looking forward to Cat-griz 2005 about as much as I would look forward to a root canal. I don't have a good feeling about it at all.
If we lose-the bad feelings go with it. If we play well and win I'll be even more pissed about yesterday.

Nice expression of sportsmanship Gtapp. I hope you don't mind if I quote that in every fan site I can find. That your comment hasn't been condemned by your fellow State "fans" confirms to me everything I've thought about the State. It really puts into perspective all the whining I hear from State fans about how they don't get the "respect" they have "earned", and how "arrogant" Griz fans supposedly are.gtapp wrote:Nice post Elk and I can respect your opinion. In case you hadn't noticed, every other poster with the exception of Gtapp stated how good of a post it was by Elk. It is Gtapp's opinion, one person acknowledged that it was harsh and everyone else moved on with the exception of you. I am confused how that relates at all towards "whining." If you need us to condemn it, then fine, I condemn ye Gtapp...damn you for having your own opinion.GFGriz wrote:Nice expression of sportsmanship Gtapp. I hope you don't mind if I quote that in every fan site I can find. If you are going to start asking that fellow fans start condeming other fan comments, you might want to start looking towards some of your fellow Griz fans while you are at it. Talk about arrogance and sportsmanship.
I will also go ahead and say thanks for the great post Elk. It really puts it all into perspective as Montanans. I'm hoping this Saturday is a great game and one that we all will remember for a long time!

Actually I stole the line from a George Carlin routine. It was pretty funny when he said it. While I don't care for most griz fans (there are some exceptions) and I don't really care what they think I was not intending to be offensive but to use a line I thought was funny to make a point. Obviously it was not that funny to everyone. Take it for what it is worth but it really wasn't meant to be mean spirited!GFGriz wrote:Nice expression of sportsmanship Gtapp. I hope you don't mind if I quote that in every fan site I can find. Good Lord. Okay, everybody line up and shout down gtapp for throwing out an opinion that nobody else agrees with (and nobody takes seriously to being with) so GFGriz won't be telling on us on every other fan site he can find (a perfectly normal way to spend extra time, apparently) for being bad people.GFGriz wrote:Nice expression of sportsmanship Gtapp. I hope you don't mind if I quote that in every fan site I can find. Did I miss something, or does this fall a bit short of a terrorist act that we must all condemn?
A simple request for those who are getting too emotional. PUT DOWN THE KEYBOARD ... and SLOWLY BACK AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER.
As for the intial intent of this point, thanks to elkmcc for bringing some much-needed perspective to this board.

and what exactly are your thoughts about the "classy, non-arrogant" comments that bearbac has made since the cats lost to ewu? dude, we get it. the cats sucked. but grow up a little man. just because some bully cat fan hurt your feelings sometime, doesn't mean that you have to come to OUR boards and being a jerk. what do you gain man? GROW UP1GFGriz wrote:Nice expression of sportsmanship Gtapp. I hope you don't mind if I quote that in every fan site I can find.
