FTC Shirts

Post by Mechanical Cat » Fri Oct 17, 2014 11:17 am

The griz are selling these for a fundraiser which I think is a good idea, but do any of you remember the editorial in the chronicle after cat/griz in 2012. A gentleman (and his wife) that owns a printer cartridge store in Missoula were utterly appalled that cat fans were chanting FTG. He was appalled enough that he felt compelled to write an editorial about it. It just really stuck out in my head because I sat next to this buffoon at that game. I tried to explain to him that is goes both ways but I guess he didn't get it. I think I am compelled to purchase one of those shirts and send it his way. Also, I know there was no reason for this post. I just wanted to share how big of an idiot that guy was.

When the rivalry can be used in a good cause like this, I think it is great. There is no indication on the shirt what the "C" stands for other than traditional chants with the rivalry. I like to think in this case the "C" is for cancer - but whatever, it doesn't really matter. I thought of this originally when I saw it, and then Plainiac posted the same thought.

Like I said in the other thread - KICK CANCER'S A$$ COLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is he somehow involved in the production of said FTC shirts? If not, I guess I understand the point that it goes on in both camps, but I don't see the hypocrisy you seem to allude to.

I think its the hypocrisy of calling out one fan base as classless when him, as a part of the other fan base, needs to look itself in the collective face if he's going to accuse like that.

I think its a great idea buying one and sending it for the guy. If you can print out a copy of the editorial and include it with the words "Et tu brute?" that would make it even better.

Great Idea. Also, the reason his attitude/editorial bothered me was because I happen to live in a griz fan dominated community and I catch ****** like non other.

I've been in the golf business for 25 years and maintain that FTG means "fairways, tees, and greens". People of Missoula didn't like my FTG plates from Nevada when I moved here. Oh well.

Look, I think its great that they are trying to raise money for someone in need – but lets not play stupid about what FTC is. It doesn’t stand for cancer, so stop kidding yourselves. It stands for “F*** the Cats”. If you say FTC to anybody in the rivalry, they aren’t going to think of cancer or anything else.
For any of you pollyanna’s who really believe that it “might” stand for cancer, then I challenge you to put your money where your mouth is: support the cancer cause, buy the shirt, and wear it around, including to the Cats game tomorrow. If you won’t, then please stop trying to convince everyone that FTC might stand for something else in this case.

To reinforce your point a bit further, unless they were trying to sound like Cousin Balki from Perfect Strangers (yes, I'm that old), wouldn't it just be "FC" if it was exclusively about cancer?

Not that I really care either way, but I agree that nobody can sincerely argue that this isn't intended to be a Cat bashing thing as well ... which is fine.

Exactly. That's why the guy with the editorial is such a dip ******.

Surely we can come up with something more intelligent, more witty, more "high road" than FTG? I have never understood why we tolerate these sayings from either team. If someone would use those words out loud in MOST social settings, most conversations even... we would not be happy and even feel that person using the F word was somewhat of a buffoon. Yet it is encouraged here, and we scratch our heads when we see the junior highers and even younger head down roads that were not even there for them before. :?:

*edit I would like to remove my use of the word buffoon. I do not want to come across as some self righteous buffoon myself ](*,) . I just believe we can and should try to direct our excitement, enthusiasm, and school pride in a more positive way.

Yeah, we're not ALL puffy stuffies. Some of us recognize it's just a word
