I have "inside" knowledge as well and I beleive that I agree with your assessment.Wolfman wrote:I have inside knowledge of the Billings West situation, because I personally know someone very close to the program. I can assure you that Selle will NOT sign with UM. He may go to Wyoming, or MSU. But Bobby can forget about him. You heard it here. Mark it down.

I am a new member to the board and have been reading about the QB recruits for a couple of weeks. I have seen all three play many times for the past few years as I lived in Billings before I moved to Whitefish a few months ago. Larson is the best by far. Desin is 5' nothing and Selle plays with the most talented group of kids West has ever had. Desin throws 50 times a game, who wouldn"t put up big numbers. If Larson threw 50 times a game he would hold every state record. He is 6'4" 200lbs with a cannon and can break the pocket and creates plays with his arm and feet ( reminds me of someone we have at the helm now). He completes 75% of his passes, has 30 passing TD's and 10 rushing TD's through ten games and basically only played until halftime in 9 of the 10 games. He is a 4.0 student and is intersted in becoming an engineer. He will most likely lead CBHS to a state championshiop in football and basketball, becoming the Class B Baketball MVP for a second staight year. Sounds like a good fit for the MIGHTY MIGHTY BOBCATS!!!!! :

I know for a fact the Cats are interested... how much can't answer. But I know Carroll College is hot after him too. He has been to see the Cats play and is interested in engineering. If the Bobcats get serious about going after him I think they will get him. But he is one heck of an athlete... and I agree may be the top rated QB out of Montana.

When was I dissing? I know Selle and I have been watching him start for two years. Selle put up great numbers last year with a less talented team. I said nothing about Larson and him not playing in AA. IMO Selle in number 1 and Larson is number 2 as QB's. I think Desin is the best athlete of all three.whitefishcat wrote:I am a new member to the board and have been reading about the QB recruits for a couple of weeks. What I have heard is that Selle is most likely going to UM
Desin is going to the MSU
From what my people in the HS ranks have told me Desin is the better football player, but he is short. Selle isn't as good as Desin, but he has the prototypical size for a college QB.
Who would be better in college? I couldn't tell you, but it would be pretty neat for those two to battle each other in HS and in college.

MSU has 33 players on its roster this year who are MT kids. How many have scholarships? I don't know. But, they are here playing college ball. And, they must be pretty happy about it or they wouldn't stick it through.
As I mentioned in my post after listening to Coach K on Tuesday is that we don't have a ton of scholarships available this year. Some of the positions we are looking for players in, you normally don't find qualified kids to fill from MT. For example, I don't know of a single player in MT that we could recruit as a corner in this league.
So, instead of being critical, why don't you supply a list of players from Montana who you think are QUALIFIED to play at this level. Open yourself up to some critiquing instead of sitting on a platform and spewing.[/quo Exactly, 33 Mt. players on the roster, but not sure how many on scholarships. They are playing ball, excuse me college ball! What you want to check on is see how many are still around next year, happy or not, their trying to make the team because coach K won't take a chance on them but he will take a chance on the out of stater. I'm not talking just corner, I'm talking all position. Get off your knees and take a good look at the program, how many of the his recruits are still here. Montana players need a chance, and what better place then right here in our own state.

You are either not reading the posts correctly or are choosing to focus on parts of the script as the only thing that has been said! MSU does offer some MT athletes full ride scholarships out of high school. MSU does offer some MT athletes partial scholarhsips out of high school. But, the simple fact of the matter is, and I'm born and raised MT, is that there are not enough D-I qualified athletes that come out of this state year in and year out to completely fill the rosters with them.barechestcat wrote:DONTWANNABE24 wrote:Right, continue encouraging the Montana kids to walk on, because no Montana kids are good enough out of high school to make the almighty Bobcats!!! You get what you ask for, when Kramer was hired he said he would go find athletes, athletes out of state. Now, we want Kramer and his staff to give partials, if possible. Let's get real, winning is what fills the stands and if you look, I mean really look at both programs in our fine state, when the Cat's or the Griz are successful, they're rosters are filled with Montana kids. At what point do we say enough is enough, give our athletes a chance and the respect they deserve. When it comes to finding a way to win and making plays, Montana knows howwbtfg wrote:I was talking w/ BozoneCat at the last game and the two of us agree that we should offer more partial scholarships...especially to Montana kids. It seems like a lot of kids are deciding between UM and MSU, and MSU offers them a chance to walk on, where UM gives them a little bit of money. Who do you think they're choosing.barechestcat wrote:Kramer touched briefly on recruiting today in generalities. He said we actually don't have a lot of scholarships to offer because we are young in so many places. A summary from memory:
Offense: high school quarterback, 3-4 JC/transfer WR, one lineman, maybe a transfer QB. But, he would need to be the "right" one. He said that TE, RB are young and solid.
Defense: one HS lineman, one safety, 2 (I think) LB, one corner
I should have written this down to be more accurate as I know the above list is not completely correct.
But, he talked about his staff's approach of encouraging HS athletes to walk on and "earn" the scholarship. He made mention of a couple of walk-ons who have done that.
He did say they have offered scholarship to four HS athletes. Three were still considering MSU and one had committed to UM.
It seems that this would be a good way just to have more bodies on the team. Also, it would be a good way to bring more state wide support. If we can bring in 5-6 more Montana kids every year, I think that would really boost support in a lot of areas.
That being said, I realize that there's probably a reason that Bozone and I aren't D-1 coaches, I think Krames and his staff do a great job of recruiting.![]()

We need more, but keep thinking Krames and his staff are doing a great job and the Griz will continue kicking your ass!!!

From what I have seen he has the best arm and mechanics of all three. I also call BS on if he had gone to a bigger school. He went to three or four camps this summer and was the cream of the crop. I heard he won the passing league at UM camp, and they had all of there out of state recruits there. He showed the boys from the BIGGER schools how to play QB.JahGriz wrote:I have on very good authority that Larson may have the most ability of all the MT QB's, but that he is the greenest passing wise. Had he went to a bigger school and had more QB coaching he would easily be the top QB recruit in MT, and would likely be out of reach for either school.
Opinions vary.

You are right, he did have the best arm, but not the best mechanics. Call B.S. all you want, but Cut Bank does not have a wealth of knowledgable QB coaches. He has went to camps, yes, and they did have a kid who played for Western help him with his overall QB'ing, but even the CB coach will tell you that he didn't get the kind of coaching a bigger school can provide. This only adds to his potential, it does not detract from it. It shows when he gets more personalized coaching he will improve that much more.whitefishcat wrote:From what I have seen he has the best arm and mechanics of all three. The bottom line is that we will not know for three years how these recruits worked out. Less than half of this years recruiting class will be in the program as Seniors and only a handfull of them will make major contributions. Kramer has recruited 8 QB's since he came to MSU (6 HS QB's, 1 JC and 1 D-1 Transfer). Of those only three have started and only one has played more than one year and played well (Lulay)(jury still out on Carpenter and Coppack). You never know, especially at QB. Other than Edwards who was the last good QB UM has had that was actually recruited?

Agreed. It will be great to watch Selle directing our offense, I have been VERY impressed every time I have watched him play the last two years. What has impressed me the most is his poise. He looks very calm and mature in the pocket, and he makes good decisions.longhorn_22 wrote:I can't say this enough. Selle is a better QB than Desin. If Selle played the entirety of every game and threw as much as Desin did, his numbers would be astronomical. Although Selle is a better QB and has great size, Desin is a better overall athlete.
Desin will be a stud too.

I don't understand what that means. All through the 90's the hated griz had tiny receivers that lit up the league. Matt Wells was what 5'5". Shannon Cabanoc was what 5'2". If Desin is as good as longhorn22 says he is, he can play.whitefishcat wrote:Where would he play? He is way to small to play QB, DB, or WR.BozoneCat wrote:My info tells me Desin may be coming to MSU, but not as a QB...
As for grizindaouthouse--I didn't say that all three should go to play qb. I just hope all 3 go to play football and help the CATS kick the hell out of the griz.

Desin may come in as a Tyler Lulay type of player. The may try him a bit at both Safety and Receiver, and see where he ends up.
I hope we do get all 3 QBs from Montana, because it sounds like they are all fantastic athletes, and they they will all have a chance at being great Bobcats.
