How many passes must Gatewood drop before Lulay looks at Guinn more often?

A fumbled snap by the QB does not a stiff defense make.

I'll take the fumble, but the RB ran for 7 yards on the play prior to that, right up the middle.

How can you call the defense "limp" that hasn't allowed Sac State anywhere near the endzone except when the offense gave them the ball at the 8. The defense keeps making big plays!

The rushing TD's that were allowed were by a defense that was forced back on the field after miscues by the offense and special teams. The defense was pumped to stop them, but then had to come out and didn't look anything like they had in the prior series. That is why I called them limp. It was in those situations where the Cats gave up the yards and the points.

You were right, but not the way we wanted.

I have a question for you people watching on TV: Did we ever gain possession on the block punt and then fumble or did Sac State just fall on the ball beyond the first down? if there was not a clear possession by the Bobcats, then the referees blew it.

Daryl Rogers is my player of the day so far. He has 2 bad knees and still manages to play with as much heart as anyone I have ever seen.

No defense stops somebody completely. What has the offense done lately?

Actually Catdad, I believe that it is the same as when the ball is touched downfield by the receiving team, it is live.

If the ball is touched behind the line of scrimmage by the defense (block) the ball is not live...think about it. How many "partial" blocks have you seen where the ball goes downfield 20-30 yards...can the punt team fall on that and get a first down. How is it any different. Even Dan Davies was puzzled by the call on the radio. I am just trying to understand what happened.

Sorry, I think you are correct. Unless the Bobcats were to touch it again after the block, then it would not be live.

CatDad is right. If the ball is blocked and goes past the line of scrimmage it is not a live ball. It is just like a regular punt. If the ball is blocked and stays behind the line of scrimmage it is a live ball.

good job Groves. Profisme, thanks for your quick replies...I appreciate it! I really believe that punt block first down was wrong. Can you think of a situation in any other game where you have seen that? Maybe, i don't understand what happened.

The only thing that I can think is that he picked it up behind the line of scrimmage and ran for the first down.
