Comfort food
Celtic's question reminded me of a question I had. Are there any places in Bozeman or other cities in Montana that fall into the (for lack of a better term) "comfort" or "soul food" category? I know there are BBQ places that hit pretty close to that, but are there places that do fried chicken and waffles, for instance?

Re: Comfort food
Sud's Hut would probably fall into the comfort food category. And probably any Butte place with fried pork chop sandwiches on the menu.

There are a couple places in Great Falls that might fit.Bay Area Cat wrote:Celtic's question reminded me of a question I had. I think Goodies and there is one other one but I can't remember it off the top of my head. Maybe John K or CPACAT would know.
I love the Bobcats and the Miami Hurricanes an unhealthy level

I believe the Pit Stop has chicken and waffles, and I think maybe Beef O' Brady's also (I know BOB is a chain and not unique to GF/Montana). I believe Goode's closed in GF, and moved to Billings.BigBruceBaker wrote:There are a couple places in Great Falls that might fit.Bay Area Cat wrote:Celtic's question reminded me of a question I had. Re: Comfort food
There's a place in Kalispell called "Tha Southern Skillet" that is definitely soul food. I lived in South Carolina for a few years and it reminds me of a lot of places down there. It's really good but I have to stay away.

Um, duh - Cheesesteak from the PB on College...
Suds Hut is a good recommendation.
The Stockyard Cafe used to have good comfort food back when the stockyard was there. We used to have lunch there when we took the oddball cow or bull to market there back in the day. Do they still serve?
Rib and Chop in Livingston has some pretty good comfort food (mostly sides) on the menu.
Montana Brewing Company in Billings makes about 4 or 5 different variations of Mac N' Cheese that I'd call comfort food.
The Vig in Billings Heights also makes some comfort food type stuff (see The General here: https://montana.cafecourier.com/PFR_Ord ... rantID=242)
Cafe Zydeco makes some pretty good southern soul-food, too, but I liked it better when they were in that dive right next the The Round House off of West Main.
I know it's a chain, but The Cracker Barrel does a good job with soul food. I've never had a bad meal there and they make the best Arnold Palmer I've ever had.

I love the Suds Hut...best cheeseburgers in Montana IMHO. I know their chicken is supposed to be great too, but I can't ever talk myself into trying it, because I love the cheeseburgers so much. I normally try to allow time for a stop in Helena, when en route to or from Bozeman. When I lived in Billings back in the late 80's they had three locations there too, but I'm not sure if any of them are still open?

Try the Mac and Cheese at the Wild West Bar (Strozzie's) the next time you are in West Yellowstone, it is expensive (like 11 bucks) but very good!

Boston's in GF also has really good Mac and Cheese, although it's a chain. Be sure to add the Italian sausage.orsalak wrote:Try the Mac and Cheese at the Wild West Bar (Strozzie's) the next time you are in West Yellowstone, it is expensive (like 11 bucks) but very good!

The younger Goode brothers moved their restaraunt to Billings but I read where the older brother moved back to Great Falls and reopened on a limited basis. I will have to go their tonight on my way up to Chester!! Thanks for the reminder.

Re: Comfort food
I wondered about that, because I drove by there recently, and noticed a Goode's sign on the front of that casino where they were located. I didn't remember them having a sign on the front of the building before, since their restaurant was in the back, so I wondered if maybe they'd reopened in a smaller space in that same casino. Now I'm curious...might have to check it out this weekend.vike_king wrote:John K wrote:I believe the Pit Stop has chicken and waffles, and I think maybe Beef O' Brady's also (I know BOB is a chain and not unique to GF/Montana).
