Sherman apparently had a meltdown over a reporter's cell phone ringing at his weekly presser as well.
Favre set the tone for all of this when he called out Javon Walker for wanting out of a bad deal. That was easy for Favre to say; he is one of the richest players in the NFL. When Walker went down with this ACL injury, my guess is the entire locker room fell into two camps. Favre also lost a lot of respect for his stunt IMO.
All in all, a horrible year both on and off the field for Favre and the Pack.

Here's a link from ESPN.com. Didn't take too long. It says that four other teams were looking to pick him up as well, but the Saints got him. Good for Joey.

The SAINTS? Well good for Joey, but I can't be a Saints fan. I was ok cheering for the Packers, but not the Saints. Oh well, I am really glad to see he already got picked up!grizband wrote:I just heard that the Saints picked up Joey Thomas from the Packers on waivers today. I heard this on ESPN radio on the Sportsbash, as told by John Clayton.
Too bad they don't play the Pack again this year, it would be cool to see Joey pick off Favre.

The Saints had first shot at him, with other teams in line. I'm no Saints fan either, but he had a 24 hour period after getting waived and that's all the time it took to get him on another team.BelgradeBobcat wrote:He managed to sign with a team worse than the Packers-but hey, he'll still be getting an NFL paycheck-not too shabby!
Glad to see he's still in the NFL (and he gets the previous contract amount).

Hasn't Thomas always had a 'tude goin' on? Was that not the reason he left Oregon and came to MSU, because he got crossways with the coach? Maybe not, but that is what I thought.
I always had the impression that he was a gangsta thug when he played for the Cats. I don't think any of you would want your daughter bringing him home to meet mon and dad.

Wolf, that was a pretty ridiculous post for a couple of reasons.
First of all, Joey went to the University of Washington before coming to MSU. He came to MSU because the coach there (Neuheisal) wanted to move him to safety and he was a cornerback.
Secondly, that was a pretty stupid stereotypical comment made about his "gangsta thug"-ness on the field. We could make fun of Etu Molden and the way he got in trouble in Billings the year after he graduated, but we don't.

as a vikes fan, and a subscriber to the nfl ticket, i have watched a lot of the packers and joey. and i love joey. i went to school with him and hung out a bit and he was a cool guy. but the truth is, he didn't play like he could have. he took to many gambles, and just like in college, contact and tackling aren't his strong suit. i think carrol is horrible too, but i dont think that he was released unjustly. he just didn't fit there. he worked his butt off to be the starter in week one, but was too prone to mistakes. even though it is the horrible coverage on braylon edwards, and the play at the end of the vikes game that we remember, the truth is, if you watched him carefully, he wasn't getting it done. all that being said, he is a great talent, and my vikes are the worst! after watching fred smoot against steve smith and chad johnson, i'd gladly take a joey thomas!

I do believe the saints have 2 wins to the Packers 1. Plus, they have found more ways to lose close games than you can shake a stick at. They will shake up that NFC south divison, as they are an unpredictable team.BelgradeBobcat wrote:He managed to sign with a team worse than the Packers-but hey, he'll still be getting an NFL paycheck-not too shabby!
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Here's an article from last year when Thomas and Carrol got into a fight, for those of you that remember that.
Thomas a "bad, bad guy"
After Carroll arrived in April with the 25th pick in the first round, coach Mike Sherman selected another cornerback, Joey Thomas, in the third round with the 70th overall choice. He took Thomas, it can be assumed, well aware of the baggage that came with the choice.
Sherman labeled Carroll "a safe pick," in terms of character. Thomas, he acknowledged, "is going to have to be coached, no question about that. It's just a matter if we're able to accelerate his learning curve."
What should, and does, concern the Packers is the degree of immaturity that both Carroll and Thomas have shown during their first five months of professional football.
Although Carroll was suspended for one game as a freshman for missing a team meeting and unquestionably is a brash individual, NFL scouts had far fewer character questions on him than they did about Thomas entering the draft.
Thomas, 24, originally enrolled at the University of Washington in January 2000 as a late qualifier. But then, 10 days before the Huskies' first game, he transferred to Division I-AA Montana State apparently because coach Rick Neuheisel wanted him to change positions.
He played all four seasons at Montana State but has said that he would have declared for the draft after his junior year had it not been for a knee injury.
Thomas turned into a superb player in the Big Sky Conference before showing up at the combine and telling one team that he could cover Minnesota's Randy Moss man-to-man. He had scored 10 (out of 50) on the Wonderlic intelligence test a year earlier before improving to 19 in Indianapolis (Carroll scored 17).
The personnel director for an NFC team removed Thomas' name from the draft board even though he liked him as a player.
"Bad, bad guy," the director said. "He's always right there on the fringe. He's an accident waiting to happen."
Another personnel director said Thomas had what he called a "competitive flaw." An AFC scout said Thomas "doesn't understand the whole team concept." Another scout said no one that he talked with at Montana State had anything good to say about him, but added that his team found nothing criminal in his background.
"Good luck," an NFC scout said. "He's really cocky and has all the answers. Thinks no matter what happened to him and he gets beat he's still fine because he's good. I'll tell you exactly what I told (his team's head coach): Buyer beware.' Whatever he tries to do he tries to cheat on."
Thomas has turned off some of the coaches and staff in Green Bay with his braggadocio, inability to play through injuries and know-it-all attitude. He was compared by one source to Antuan Edwards in terms of his cool exterior and subsequent so-so intensity on the field.
The Fight
As first reported in the Green Bay Press-Gazette last week, these two youthful, cocksure, combustible people erupted in a verbal confrontation that escalated into an exchange of blows soon after the loss to Chicago two weeks ago.
During a meeting of the defensive backs, one source said Carroll was taking his share of grief from his teammates for a bad play. Thomas, who had been inactive for the game, added his two cents worth and Carroll took offense.
According to a club source, Carroll said, "I'll take it from the vets but I'm not going to take it from you. At least I'm playing."
To which Thomas is said to have rejoined, "Yeah, but the only reason you're playing is because you're first round."
After the pair continued to trash-talk each other in front of secondary coach Kurt Schottenheimer, they left the room. Thomas, however, was joking with another player about how the Packers were "spoon feeding" and "babying" Carroll. That's when Carroll struck Thomas from behind.
"Joey then was on him like a cheap suit," one source said. "They had to pull him off of him."
One veteran said no fight of this kind ever had occurred in a classroom setting during his years with the team.
Thomas is said to be jealous of Carroll, not only for his playing time but also because his $2.1 million signing bonus almost tripled his own ($720,000). There's also said to be disputes between the pair over women and other factors that only distract players from helping the team.

I stand firmly behind my statement that Thomas is a thug. Use the race card if you must....it is always the cop out for telling it like it is. Sounds like Joey is a rocket scientist to go along with being a thug......a big "10" on the Wonderlick, huh?
I know of no thugs on the Grizzly BB team. Care to name names?

Wolf, what gives you the opinion that he was a thug? Because he was a shut-down cornerback who was more physical than any that you have seen in the Big Sky? The fact that he had more natural athletic ability than anyone on your Griz team? Or maybe because he made it to the NFL and you didn't. Yes, he scored a 10 the first time on the Wonderlic, but then a 19 his next time.
He is a nice guy, just ask anyone who knows him or at least has met him. The only guy who would say to the contrary would be Ahmad Carroll because Thomas kicked his butt. At least he never punched another player in the nuts in a game like a former offensive lineman for the Griz on national television (I believe it was Proctor).

Do you know him personally? Hell, have you ever spoken as many as two words to him? If not, then why are you labeling him a "thug"? I'm never one to throw out the race card unnecessarily (hated the Jason Whitlock article on Charlie Weis), but I think that considering your remarks and reading between the lines, yours was a racist remark. BTW, I believe Joey's 19 on the Wonderlick was the second highest among all cornerbacks in that draft. He is no dummy. Again, nice presumption.Wolfman wrote:I stand firmly behind my statement that Thomas is a thug. Use the race card if you must....it is always the cop out for telling it like it is. Who was the griz player that got in trouble for flashing a gun last year? Maybe he was a football player, I'm not sure. Regardless, that is a thug move!

i actually dont believe this. maybe, just maybe i could fathom a comment like this on the smack board, but i am 100% offended, and hurt by your comment. where you got "gangsta thug" from is beyond me. you obviously never met joey. he was a great person, and from what i hear, a great teammate. unless you know the person, and their background, then please dont jude, and throw what can only be construed as rascist comments out there. and being a father of a little girl, and knowing joey, i would have no problem with her bringing him home as you put it. please dont let our little cat/griz feud cause you, a potentially goo person, to sound so careless and ignorant.

Bozone that gun incident was 2 years ago I believe & it was Vernon Smith a football player. But you are right that was very thug move. I think both the Cats & Griz fans should just be happy that we are not Idaho St when it comes to having thugs on the team, they are championship material.BozoneCat wrote:
