On the other thead about T shirts-- I suggested a shirt that played off that " you can't spell dUMb without UM" shirt, with a couple of charactures of Lloyd and Harry from Dumb and Dumber.

For someone creative it would be easy to create a shirt with those guys with UM football jerseys lined up against the Cats.

The idea is free for the taking, and money to be made given to local charities...

I visited Missoula for the first time last weekend. I'm a Portland State University grad, and the purpose of the visit was to see the PSU - Montana football game and to visit the city. To say I was impressed is putting it mildly. It's never fun to watch your alma mater lose a football game, particularly so emphatically, but in the process I got to see a prosperous and lively looking city as well as an outstanding football program at the university. In addition I was "taken in" on Friday evening by a group of people in a local sports bar - Susan, Stacey, Annie, Steve and others - who bought me drinks and made me feel at home in their group, and, finally, I was given a ticket to the game by another nice guy - Ken Stam of Chinook - whom I met at breakfast at Finnegan's on Saturday morning.

This was a dazzling display of hospitality, particularly when juxtaposed with the enormous show of support for the U of Montana football program from the 23,000 fans at the superb Grizzly Stadium. I vote Missoula the number one college football town in America.

Thanks, folks, for a truly memorable 24 hours.

Actually, Griz fans are red/blue color blind. Their school color looks blue to them and we look red. Which, of course, causes their "uncharacteristic" responses to us. hehehe

Don't know. I've always heard about State fans having good experiences in Missoula (especially in 2002), and I've always enjoyed the State/Griz game in Bozeman too (ESPECIALLY in 1997). No one's going to be giving away tickets to the game on either side, of course. I'd like to see the rivalry rise above the infantile level of "UM = dUMb" (no brain cells used in thinking that up). There's plenty of infantile shirts on the UM side too. The letter from the Porland fan from SLC about his experience in Missoula reminds me that a sports rivalry can exist without either side insulting each other, e.g., the colorblind remark.

Bobcat fans are treated just as rudely in Missoula as friz fans are when they come to Bozeman. The difference is, Bobcat fans are not a bunch of whining pussies who cry about how terrible they were treated for the next several years. I don't dress in my Montana State gear and go to a football game in Missoula and not expect to get some sh*t about it. Get in my face, and I'll punch your lights out, but I expect to get a hard time because I'm basically asking for it.

And my guess as to why so many Bobcat fans had a great time in Missoula in 2002 probably had something to do with the fact we won the game that year... I don't know, just throwing out a wild guess. I highly doubt it was due to the wonderful hospitality we got from all of the very appreciative and civil griz fans.

Goodness GFGriz, if you think I was insulting any Griz fans there vs just having a little fun (see the hehehe ) then I think you probably should stay away from this site. I say things ten times worse then that to my actual friends. It's called guys just being guys. You're getting all worked up LIKE A GIRL!

BTW, don't ever try to say that PSU is a rivalry game with UM. I thought the story to the editor was a great thing and that his treatment was what should be expected by any Montanan. But, he did not step into a rivalry situation either.

Gee, Nobone. Ok, let me try and explained this to you. Fans from other teams come to Missoula to watch their teams play the Griz and, year after year, they take the time afterwards to write back letters explaining what a memorable experience they had. That's like the Portland State fan from SLC who wrote back to express what a great experience he had, even though his team lost. The truth is the common experience for fans of teams opposing the Griz is that watching games in Missoula at Wash-Griz reminds them of what college football is supposed to be. There's hunderds examples of opposing fans lauding everything they find about Griz football, especially as it's played in Missoula, and including reporters from across the nation who come to Wash-Griz. The same just doesn't happen when opposing fans come to Bozeman to watch their teams play State. For them, Nobone, watching football in Bozeman is the athletic equivalent of the old saying about Chinese food: even if you eat it until you are full, you're hungry an hour later. Likewise, while a person might feel entertained while watching State play in Bozeman, as soon as the game's done, they are left feeling empty. They certainly don't leave and, days later, write back to Bozeman saying what a great time they had. The most common expression, as Tony Moss wrote a couple of years ago when he came to a State game, is that State fans measure everything about their program against the much more successful football program in Missoula. I suspect that's part of the reason why opposing fans find games at State so thoroughly unmemorable. That's about as simple as I can make it, Nobone. I hope you understand.

As for why the State fans on this board don't have the same great experience when they attend games in Missoula, I'm not sure. I know a lot of fans of State who, like the Portland fan from SLC, have a great time in Wash-Griz. As for the rest, I suspect it's because they go there with lousy attitudes born of suffering defeat at the hands of the Griz year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year. That's understandable, and I'm sorry for them, and most of all for you, Nobone. I suppose that's why they have infantile shirts like "UM - dUMb". It's kind of sad, really. I hope that was also straightforward enough for even you to understand.

When you made your first post on this thread I was disappointed that you were off topic. However, the more you posted, the more I realized that you are the best joke I have heard in a long time!

There is no question that you have a great program at the "university". We too have a great program that we are equally proud of. Just because your program doesn't draw 80,000 + fans like many 1A schools, doesn't mean that you shouldn't be equally proud of your school. When you act so arrogant, we lose respect for your opinion, and that is when you become a joke.

If you can pull yourself away from your Chinese food and make the trip to Bozeman for the Cat/university game I think you will find we are great fans and great hosts.
