Jah I've been thinking about this and now that Billings Senior has finally started a throwing trend. More teams running a spread O in Montana will mean more throwing wich will help develope more Wideouts in the future...things just might start getting better in the wideout dept.
Never mistake activity for accomplishment.

Cockhill is from Helena and he was a producer for MT in the early 90's for sure. Another name that hasn't been mentioned is Josh Paffhausen who was a backup qb but switched to WR when asked. I think if Josh had played WR from the start he would have been remembered as one of the great Griz WR's. Allen Green (Anaconda 1976) ala late 70's was All American at tight end and punter.JahGriz wrote:I'm talking Montana kids. What kids who were in H.S. in Montana were the best WRs in college at the I-AA or I-A level. Other than Bissell has any MT kid been on a I-A team as a WR, or even better, actually played WR for a I-A team. The list must be about as big as my little toe.
Watkins though is a start. I'm not sure I agree with your list of UM's best WR though elk. But opinions vary.
Anyway, so far the best WR's to come from MT and play Div I football, as given by other posters:
Turnquist
Watkins
So far the list doesn't bode well for assuming a WR prospect from MT will be great. There has to be others. What about Cockhill and Gurnsey. Both MT kids I believe, and WR's in college. That would make the list better, in fact so far Cockhill may be the best WR to come out of MT.
Out of curiousity Jah, if you don't agree with the 5 names I listed, just who would you drop, and what names would you replace them with? I might add Matt Wells but not at the expense of dropping one of the others.

He was also a helluva a BB player in HS.

You Griz front-running fans aren't smart enough to jump on the "dump Hauck" bandwagon yet. It will take a few more losses to Div. II teams, or instant playoff elimination the first time the Griz actually have to play a road playoff game, before you'll realize how bad a coach Hauck is.
Hauck is 6-6 on the road. He played ALL of the top Big Sky teams at home this year, 'cept for the Cats. Do you think he could have beaten Weber, Cal Poly, or PSU on the road? No way. He'll lose to the Cats again. What will you say then?
Hauck can't coach. Simple as that.

elk, I forgot about this thread. Anyway, regarding best UM WR you had:elkmcc wrote:Out of curiousity Jah, if you don't agree with the 5 names I listed, just who would you drop, and what names would you replace them with? I might add Matt Wells but not at the expense of dropping one of the others.
1. Joe Douglass
2. Jimmy Farris
3. Jeremy Watkins
4. Jefferson Heidelberger
5. Jon Talmage
Which is tough to argue with. It is a tough call, and opionions can vary and each still be right in a way, I think.
I do think Douglass was the best with Farris second. 3, 4, and 5 I think can be argued. Here are a few guys who I think could slip into the top 5. But I can't decide who to remove, and who to put in. And on second look, I might even have to agree with your list. It might take some game tapes and deeper research to come up with a list.

Matt Wells
Shalon Baker
Raul Pacheco
Tanner Hancock
Billy Cockhill
Etu Molden

Regarding the Montana WR sub-topic, the point about teams passing more these days is a great point. I should lead to better WR coming out of MT, time will tell. We've got a lot of MT WR's, so I hope time will tell very soon, that MT can consistantly produce WRs, instead of a spattering here and there.

I don't know how you can list the top 5 Griz receivers w/o Etu. Not only was a great player but also a great team leader. Would have to agree that Joe Douglass was hands down the best though.JahGriz wrote:elk, I forgot about this thread. Are you serious? After all of 2 good games?! Give me a break! He played very poorly in the six games previous. Don't insult the great players that came before him by preemptively lumping him into that elite group after only two pretty decent games.grizband wrote:They way he has stepped up in the absence of Talmage, Bagley could be establishing himself as a Griz great.
