I was there for about 20 minutes before I got bored and left. Nothing really new and exciting to report.mslacat wrote:Can anyone report on the BB scrimage today, before the game?

One thing that may be noteworthy is that Ryan Holmes was playing point guard with the rest of the starters at the beginning of the scrimmage, with Miller on the bench. I'm not sure if this means anything, but I was a bit surprised nonetheless. Holmes looked very good today, and Miller struggled at times. Neither of the two freshmen who played (Wilson and B. Johnson) stood out to me as players who will make a significant impact this year given all the returning players ahead of them. To repeat what has been said before, Edmonds can flat out shoot the ball and will be a great source of points off the bench.
One other thing, the court has been repainted to a solid navy blue as opposed to the "two-toned" blue that it has been. The center court logo is now the same "M" that is on the football helmets.

I have heard Miller has just gotten back from Milwakee. I think he had a family emergency and was gone for about a week or so.MSU01 wrote:One thing that may be noteworthy is that Ryan Holmes was playing point guard with the rest of the starters at the beginning of the scrimmage, with Miller on the bench. I came away from the scrimmage feeling pretty optomistic. We may have found the answer to Miller's cold nights with Derrick Edmonds. If one of those two guys is hitting from out we'll be tough to beat. If both are on we'll be pretty near unbeatable.
My only question is how will Durham keep them all happy-we have an endless supply of 6' guards running around. Ryan Holmes looks like a really nice option at point guard-I think he's more of a natural at that position than Miller anyway.
Ted Morris is going to help us a bunch this year-a big wide body type guy that we really haven't had for a while. Just so Durham resists the temptation to put five 6' guards on the floor at the same time.
Carson Durr looks like he's buffed out a bit over the offseason-should help him on defense and rebounding. He's still looks pretty shaky shooting though.
Jefferson, Moss, Beye, Durham, Dissley, Pratt-they're all back and look fine-all should pick up right where they left off last year.
I would guess we'll redshirt Wilson (the point guard from Pocatello) and play Branden Johnson (6'8" freshman from Yakima). Johnson gives us some insurance inside if Morris and Beye get into foul trouble-and he can play the 4 spot behind Moss as well.
Edmonds must have hit 5 or 6 threes in a row at one point-I was very impressed with him.

From MSU.
BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Derrick Edmonds' hot shooting and the steady
play of veterans such as Nick Dissly paced Montana State in its second
scrimmage of the preseason on Saturday.
Edmonds, a junior college transfer expected to help MSU punch up
its perimeter offense this year, scored 24 points to lead all players.
The Baton Rouge, La., native hit 8-for-13 from the field, including
8-for-12 from three-point range. "Derrick shot the ball well, as he did
in the first scrimmage," Durham said.
Several veterans also played well, Durham said, pointing out the
team's depth. Ryan Holmes scored 19 points, Ja'Ron Jefferson had 17, and
Dissly 10. "I like how deep this team is," he said. "We have a lot of
players that can contribute."
As pleased as he was with the scrimmage effort, Durham said it's
time for his team to take the next step. "It feels like it's time for us
to play a game," he said.
MSU hosts Rocky Mountain on November 4, the first of two
preseason exhibition games.

I don't suppose the exhibition games will be on the radio, will they? I think the guy who called the first few games last year (while Atteberry was finishing up football) did a superb job.
One thing is for sure... our BBall team won't be as schizo as our FB team. I think we will blow everyone out of this building this year when it comes to hoops, just like we should be doing in football.
Anyway, hopefully the rest of Bozeman realizes how awesome we will be, and people will come to the Brick en force this season. I know this Billings boy is gonna step up his attendance, big time.

Yeah, it's about time we fill up that place for some basketball games. I remember the 2002 championship season when crowds of 6,000 were the norm during the conference season. If we could get our football crowd's intensity into the Fieldhouse, the Bobcats can just ride home advantage all of the way to the Big Dance.
