What kind of chair did he have?
No the judge was 'wanting' to wear a Griz jersey but chose not to because he didn't want to appear impartial :)

Which is reasonable considering most judges would think of that if they were a judge. I know I would.

I am not failing to grasp anything.

I know that me as a person could go into a court room as a judge wearing a Griz jersey and throw down the hammer on the guys involved in the home invasion, curbstomping or rape with great ease.

Why would a sworn judge be any different?

Not to mention this wasnt even news and then you guys take something that isnt even newsworthy and throw it down like its another scandal!

Look towards Billings if you want to see some bad sworn in judges (Rambold case). So I wouldn't go by that at all.
Not to mention Cebull. By all accounts, he was actually a fair-minded and good judge, but no matter what you think of Obama, what Cebull did represented very poor "judgement"...no pun intended.

Interesting choice of words. Could vs. would. You could, but would you? Are we to feel confident that a diehard fan is no more likely to taint a jury pool, investigation, effort in prosecuting or defending as the average guy off the street that has no allegiance one way or the other. If youre accusing um of something and went to trial and the prosecutor and defense atty were huge fans and alumni that hold season tickets would you feel good about who ends up on the jury? They do the jury selection. Would you feel like the prosecutor assigned to work for you was doing his best? How about if the judge is in a grizz chair? Would you feel like you were getting a fair trial?

That's not the judges chair. It belongs to the clerk who received it as a gift from Gwen Florio when she left the Missoulian. :coffee:

Am I even not impartial when it comes to the Griz? I seem to be one of the very few that can separate football and life. I am very outspoken when all that crap is going on and people like playa rape want to give them a free pass so he can swat their ass after the game.

Also if I ever am in a courtroom, the last thing going through my mind would be what kind of chair the judge is sitting in. Unless it was a shiatsu massage chair then I would just be green with envy because those chairs are fu*king awesome.

It's not a battle, I think people find it interesting that the judge is sitting in a big maroon UM chair while presiding over this case, especially after recent events. I'm sure it doesn't mean anything, it was just a coincindence, but it certainly looks funny.

I think you don't get it. Sleeping in until 6 won't get many people very far in life, especially if they want to play on Sunday.

It is not a coincidence. Trademarks are symbols and they matter. It really is bizarre to see this in a court of law. Hermanson, in contrast appears in appropriate dress, humble. I don't think this rises to the level of scandal, and certainly not battle. It is farcical the more I think about it, funny. My last word here

I bet the judge went to Law School at UM. Who is the judge?

Considering what Hermy did I think http://www.bozemandailychronicle.com/ht ... 963f4.html this event is a little more serious than a damaged sign. Kitty Cat School isn't so innocent are they, like JJ was. And don't even say he's just not guilty instead of innocent. Many reliable sources revealed that the female accuser in the JJ trial falsely accused him of the charge to personally attack him on the account of he didn't want to be her boyfriend after they hooked up that night (for any kitty cats who might be left behind on the inside information :p) so don't go there sour pusses. Can't wait for our D growling front to say hello to your Oline meows come brawl of the wild. Until then enjoy your cupcake games, like Stephen F. Austin (or wait they beat you doh lol) but oh wait you are fresh out of those options now aren't you, time for some Big Sky matchups... Let's see what y'all got this year or cat got your tongue?

I'm sure he won't, but since he presumably lives in the Boston area, there's a fair chance he is a Patriots fan (and might sometimes wear Patriots apparel when he's not in court). In your mind, does that mean he can't be impartial?

He could be impartial... But it (the patriots jersey, or griz chair) sure doesn't look good. Would you at least agree with that?

I don't find anything wrong with the judge's chair, other than it seems small-town-ish/cornpone to me. It's the lack of self-awareness that amuses me the most.

Sure. But whenever someone tells me that something "doesn't look good" without being able to articulate a substantive reason why it's actually *wrong*, my conclusion is that there is no real wrong.

Judges are people. They have alma maters and favorite football teams, and they cheer for them just as we all do. Why should we care, as long as they do their jobs properly? As long as his rulings in the case are sound, who cares what his chair looks like?

I mostly agree with you on this, but perhaps avoiding any appearance of bias would be prudent. Perhaps have the Griz chair in chambers, and a normal chair in court.

(BTW, I think being a Griz fan wouldn't necessarily mean being biased in favor of a Griz player. Maybe he'd view Hermanson's behavior as detrimental to his favorite team and be biased against him.)

Overall, a pretty small issue if one at all.

I agree that makes UM look pretty stupid, and given the crappy reputation they have out there... That judge should have covered up the Griz logo there. But that's all secondary to the important discussion topic here... IMO Brin Merkley is pretty F'n cute... =D^

How does it make UM look stupid? The school has no control over what kind of chair the judge sits in.
