Weber Band

Post by CARDIAC_CATS » Mon Oct 10, 2005 2:39 pm

Anyone notice that the weber band was screaming their horns whenever the Bobcats had the ball? Is that legal? Or is it just up to the schools band leader if they can do that or not? It was really annoying on the Altitude broadcast so I was just wondering if that is legal per Big Sky Rules or not as that could be similiar to playing music when the other team had the ball?

I think it was Bozone that commented on this during the game day thread and I agree. Though what I heard sound more like air horns than the band. I had thought artificial noise makers during play were illegal in the Big Sky, but I could be wrong. Maybe that is only for BBall?

There was quite a bit of that going on during the game but honestly, you couldn't hear it. I could hear both QB's counts from the stands so noise was not an issue.

I was in the marching band at UofM in 2000, and then 2002-2005. We were always told that the band wasn't allowed to make noise with the instruments while plays were being run. When playing songs, the band leader would cut us off right at the snap. I do think it is a league wide rule, but I do also know that it isn't always enforced.

Interesting, the Altitude mics must have been right next to the culprits then cause it was impossible to miss on the broadcast.

On tv you could hear it. It was so annoying. I would almost rather listen to the friz announcer. (not really)

Can someone please weigh in on the Big Sky Conference rules about this stuff? Doug Fullerton was at the game.

Artificial noise makers or band, either way it is not allowed. Band playing or just tooting obnoxious sounds, the same either way.

It was absolutely annoying on the Altitude broadcast, and there were a lot of fan comments that, to be very kind, stated that this was not really classy behavior.

Big Sky rules?

The Weber band was obnoxious, but some of the fans had horns of their own and they were much more annoying. I had this one kid sitting behind me with one of them. (I was at the game) The horns fell silent when we won, and most of the Weber fans left by the end of the game. They missed a great comeback! :D
