Can we Beat PSU?

As well as marudas has done, we really need mac to come back healthy. We are not going to continue to beat teams if we give up of 200+ yds rushing per game. We are heading into Portland, where the only 1000 yd rusher in 1-AA is located. Something needs to change or we are going to have a real tough time against PSU and other great running teams, like the griz.

The answer is No.

Why

1: 2nd week in a row on the road. Always tuff
2: Cats cant stop the run and if you don't force PSU to pass they will win
3: They won't pass (like stupid Weber) so they control the clock and limit the cats one weapon
4: You don't win this many close games without it catching up to you
5: The BSC is a mess no one is going to run away with it.
6: The Cat Wideouts drop to many passes
7: Kramer needs to go on a diet.
8: Cat logic (Boise state is way better than OSU so PSU should win this one)

Not sure why this was taken so hard by some, sounds pretty reasonable to me jag, as long as the last couple are taken tongue in cheek as I think they were intended. My feelings on your reasons:

1. Totally agree, especially when the second of two is against a team playing strong like PSU. This is the same reason I don't envy the Griz's year end schedule this year.
2. Totally agree, and as Cardiac said could be the key to the game.
3. Don't know about this one, haven't paid enough attention to PSU to know how much they are passing. But from the sounds of it, they shouldn't need to.
4. I have thought the same thing, but I still like our chances with #14 leading us in the close ones.
5. Totally agree, but even if we beat PSU it still leaves UM, MSU and EWU at the top(maybe only UM/MSU if Griz beat EWU).
6. I don't know about this one, Gatewood obviously had a problem and there were problems at Cal Poly, but other than that I haven't seen this as much this year so not that big of a deal.
7. If you say so, but you tell him.
8. Interesting, don't know that I would put too much down on either BSU or OSU this year. Smurt turf magic is missing this year for sure.

PSU will be a tough game but if Travis goes deep down the middle with Murray and Gatewood the cats will win the game. That opens up shorter dumps to the tight end and some running lanes for Groves ( who should get some carries ).
My only concern is that Travis who ran way too much last week will cut off the routes too early and try and run again. He needs to keep his head in the game and play pitch and catch.
The D- has to play like the 2nd half of every game-- EVERY WEEK. Cats win by 10 this week.

I thought I heard that Rubin was a big back. Is he a inbetween the tackles kind of runner? Or, do they tend to swing it to the outside a lot.

The reason I ask is because we do a pretty fair job stopping the run up the middle. But, it's the off tackle and sweep type plays that we struggle against.

So, if Rubin is a flashy kind of guy, I hope that we have a great game plan set up. I see it being something like we did against NDSU in which we stack the box a lot and make them beat us through the air.

Mslacat... I am a fan of your posts. I am totally in agreement with your post. Hey... BobcatNation and fans... the Cats are in the race winning tough close games with good opposition and still operating at 70% on offense. The D is not playing that badly either and they have been tough in the 4th quarter when we have needed them to be. And Gatewood had an off day... but is a quality receiver, he knows what his game was in Weber, and he will be tough to deal with for opposing pass defenses the rest of the year. Make no mistake... PSU will be a tough game... but make no further mistake... PSU knows they are in for a battle and are in trouble.

I agree-we play it the way we did against NDSU. The key on offense is turnovers. We turn it over-we lose.

Rubin is lister on PSU's roster as 5-11, 225 pounds.

Sounds like a power back to me but he also appears to have some speed as he has ripped off several 20+ yarders this year.

I HOPE we're watching the PSU/UC Davis films this week; they held Rubin to 47 yards on 26 carries but Davis has been stout against the run all season.
