I don't understand why we never roll Lulay out of the pocket and let him use his athleticism to make a play. I have never seen Baily get lulay out of the pocket, maybe give him some extra time to hit a reciever or run the ball if he has the option. Just from watching guys like Vick and Plummer, it seems that a couple play action bootleg or roll out plays would work pretty well with Lulay. Sometimes Baily makes me scratch my head, if we didn't have Lulay, I think our play calling would have us 0-2 in conference right now (not to metion a few other problems as well).

When you are down 14 points in the 3rd quarter you pretty much have to go into 2-1 rush/pass ratio as we were behind. If they snuff our running game and go 3 and out then we are toast. Passing is our strength and that is what we used to get back into the game. Spread the D out and either pass or use Lulay keepers up the middle. It definately helped get us back in the game. Our running game is not CONSITENT enough to rely on it soley at the end of the game (Do I like this? No, but that is the way it is for now). I thought Groves did have 2-3 really nice runs there though. He is very shifty and can make people miss. He is easier to bring down than Domineck though so the OL needs to make some holes!grizzh8r wrote:Other than Lulay, we rushed 11 times the whole game. ELEVEN TIMES! However, during the pregame interview with Kramer, he stated that we would pass (and pass, and pass some more) on Weber, because they play man D with their DB's. We won, but I don't think the gameplan worked. IF Gatewood caught that first TD, I think the plan would have worked much better, as he only caught one pass after that (the toughest catch of the day, no less). He alone caused Lulays completion percentage to be below 50% in this game (four or five dropped passes on my count), for what it's worth.barechestcat wrote:How many times did we try to rush the ball tonight. This can include a designed qb keeper. But, I'm more interested in attempts by Domineck and Groves.
I don't know if you heard the announcer, but we are just soooooo darned one dimensional. I don't want to rush on first down, rush on second down and throw on third. But, even 1/3 of our offensive plays would be nice.

I politely disagree, CC. My 2nd main beef with Dom is that he usually gets tackled by the first guy that touches him; I've never seen a featured back who breaks fewer tackles than JD; ALL THE MORE reason why he needs to hit the line of scrimmage at full speed/power.

Hey I think our O-line is playing well. I really don't think our O-line is the problem...Catz Rock wrote:Dominick would have had a much better day, IF our O-line could open up even the smallest of holes. I don't care who you put in the backfield, if there are no holes.......then no yards. It is time for our O-line to step up and do what they are supposed to.

I agree to a point. They played against the best defensive player in the conference in Fosmark. The rushing problem was fixed real quick when Groves got in the game and had the ball in his hands. The big problem is that Bailey/Kramer completely abandoned the run. I realize MSU was down big going into the 4th Q, but until then, why werent we even trying to establish something?mquast53000 wrote:Hey I think our O-line is playing well. Saying that, I still dont see the OL dominating like I think they should - especially with all the hype Kramer has given them. They pass block well, but we still need to keep JD or a TE back to pick up the blitz, so I wouldnt even give the OL an "A" grade for their pass blocking. Until I see the OL knocking people off the ball instead of catching the DL, I wont say they are playing "well".
Maybe inserting a go-getter like Groves into the lineup will change this, but I just havent seen anything from this OL to make me think they have dominated anybody thus far this season.

Our running game is never going to go anywhere with JD who seems to not have the heart week to week to nail the hole down.
We are ALL waiting for Bass to get healthy and when he does we will see how many "little holes" the line does open up. Bass is the man for running the ball and interesting note to remember... he gets back in time to run against a tiring Griz D line.
Until he returns, we need "sppppeeeeeeeddddd" at RB. Kramer needs to practice Groves and forget about disguising things with him. The moment Groves gets 100 then we will see defenses calling the dogs off a little.
BTW: I agree that the O-Line needs to grow some cahoonies.

So, after Groves goes 9 yards on a carry, what does Bailey do? Takes him out and puts THe DOM back in. Very stupid. Isn't it our goal to try and get a damn running game? I am sorry if I offend any of you, but we can't keep winning by being one dimensional. Let Groves do it. He isn't afraid to get in and try to get the yardage, unlike Dom who avoids getting hit at all cost! Also, what about Gathing? Kramer said we would use him too, but nothing yet???

we tried to pass against a d line unit that is one of the best in the big sky, not to mention a buchannon candidate in fosmark amongst it's members. lets face it, for about 3 quarters, lulay was owned by fosmark, wouldnt have been so if we handed off more to domnick, grooves...and ect.

I disagree that Groves runs harder than JD. Groves is a scat back, and JD is a strong back who thinks he is a scat back. JD just needs to run like Eddie George used to... just mow people over.grizhatr wrote:So, after Groves goes 9 yards on a carry, what does Bailey do? Takes him out and puts THe DOM back in. I've been off base I guess. I thought our goal was to win the game?

You don't put a square peg in a round hole. If you have a round hole, use the round peg.

CelticCat, I never said that Groves runs harder than Dom. He might not, however, he did get in there and make a statement. Can't say that Dom made any statements except for some crazy reason you think he is the man. Well, here it is first. He is overrated in my opinion, and until he gives me a reason to change my mind, I won't.
