PSU vs. Boise State

Post by SonomaCat » Sat Oct 08, 2005 6:55 pm

PSU is up 7-0 at the start of the second quarter, and the game is on ESPN gameplan. It costs $20/week, but it might end up being worth it if PSU continues to play well. Next week will be a very tough game for MSU on the road, as we already knew.

Rubin has over 100 yards, early in the second quarter.

Boise State just barely converted on a 4th and 1 and their own 15. PSU is looking tough, and BSU is playing like an underdog.

PSU just intercepted to the BSU 15 ... BUT, PSU was called for roughing the passer. Tough break for PSU.

PSU really hurt by that roughing call -- BSU continues the drive to score a TD. Probably a 14 point swing on that call. Tied up 7-7.

I hope PSHS gets the crap kicked out of them today. Wouldn't mind having them a little beaten and downtrodden when we invade Portland next Saturday...

Wow. BSU called a bunch of timeouts right before half to force PSU to punt. PSU punts deep, and then BSU throws an INT to PSU with little time left in the half.

BSU is VERY aggressive, and it had worked so far, but it might have cost them at the end of the half if PSU can score.

I want PSU to win. It makes us look that much better when we knock them off. I'm a firm believer in rooting for BSC teams in all non-BSC games, even considering momentum issues. Maybe they'll overlook MSU if they win?

TD PSU! They will go into half up 14-7 ... and it really could be 21-0 really easily (were it not for that roughing call).

I wish it was on TV.

It is ... but you have to pay for it on ESPN gameplan (I'm glad I did, so far).

I'm actually watching it on my computer (costs the same) because my dear TV was occupied. I'm not sure if I can now watch it on TV without paying again ... probably not.

Ah, yeah, that puts it off-limits, except for the online feed, which is actually about the best online feed I have seen so far.

Boise scores with some big plays coming from the option on the ground, but then miss the PAT. 14-13 PSU, end of the third.

I haven't seen PSU put the ball downfield at all (passes short outs, mostly)m, and have lost the run. They haven't really moved the ball much lately, but they are still in it. If they can piece together one more drive, they might be able to hold off Boise. If they can't, Boise is going to wear down their D.

Regardless of the outcome of this game, I am impressed with PSU. They run the ball very well, and their D is good against the pass. If we can slow down their running game, though, their offense might be stoppable. The QB hasn't made any mistakes, but doesn't create much, either. When he gets flushed, he doesn't appear to be much of a threat.

BSU now up 21-14. PSU's offense has done nothing for a long time, and their defense is just getting worn out. PSU needs to make something happen, or this one is over.

Watching BSU is really interesting. They are so aggressive in their approach to the game. They've pinned themselves deep several times by fielding punts inside the 10, and they never punt once they cross midfield. They are trying to get as many chances to score as possible. In this game, it has both helped and hurt them, but I like the approach.

My least favorite play ever is a punt inside the opponents 40 yard line (which usually results in a touchback, it seems). BSU fans never have to see that.

Can't you buy individual games on DirectTV?

I ask because there are few later this year I may want to purchase.

The plus part of this game is that PSU is most likely getting worn down by a larger team and the starters are all still exerting themselves.

The minus part is that old confidence thing. They have run on BSU and Oregon State. I hope the 'Cats have a few tricks up their sleeve.

PSu is putting together a decent drive right now -- all on the ground. Past midfield with 5:00 left.

PSU tries to pass deep twice on the drive -- both awful passes. It's not their strong suit. PSU punt at the 40. They are the opposite of BSU -- too conservative. They punted at the 35 earlier. I just hate that ... especially with so little time left.

Netted 15 yards on the punt. And now it looks like BSU will be able to run out the clock. You have to play to win, sometimes, and I don't think they did on that call.
