BSC Refs Suck
Is it just me or do BSC referees blow at least one call every few minutes? It happens every game. Does this happen to other teams than the Cats?

That's not what he said, dopey. Are you going to sit at your computer and actually say that BSC officials are of good quality?
I think they were better today then last Saturday. But, when I see Marudas in the middle of the line with his jersey pulled over his pads, you can't tell me that's not holding; one case in point of many.

The refs were terrible in this game, just like they are in every game a Big Sky referee crew works, in any sport. It is embarrassing to associate ourselves with a league that accepts such mediocrity. Of course, when your commissioner epitomizes "mediocrity," it comes as little surprise.grizdoc wrote:Now it is the referees fault? I think you had it right in the Weber thread “we suck we suck we suck.”
This game wasn't won or lost because of the refs, just like 99% of games. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have the right to expect much better.

They do suck. Did you watch the flipping game? Appearently not. You take one of my quotes on a completely different situation out of context. Im not George Bush, don't pull a liberal on me.grizdoc wrote:Now it is the referees fault? I think you had it right in the Weber thread “we suck we suck we suck.”

How many holding calls against the Bobcats today?
There were 3 obvious ones on the Weber tight end on 3 consecutive plays in the first quarter. NONE of them were called.
I used to think the Griz held more than any team in the league; now I have to give that honor to Weber.

It's not just that, its the constant bullsh** pass interference calls and the crap that is considered holding.barechestcat wrote:That's not what he said, dopey. Are you going to sit at your computer and actually say that BSC officials are of good quality?

I agree that the refing has been bad. We did get a break though on the last interceptio. The corner was beat and was face guarding, throwing his hands up, and ran into the receiver at the end, right as Grenfell picked it off. Could have easily been a pi call based on the ones they did early in the game.

This is one of those games where I pity both sides, because everybody got hosed. We got away with some sh*t, and so did they. We got bogus calls, and so did they.
Overall at least they sucked equally bad for both sides.
I still want to see a change though. The refs in this league can win or lose games for teams that are on the short end of their incompetence.

That is the whole point Teton. They make bad/no calls for BOTH teams. Our D had numerous non-called PI's, as did their D. Our O had numerous non-calls, like a false start that was incorrectly called an offsides on them, a holding penalty on us, and one delay of game not called on us. Thier O had at least 4 non-called holds by the O-line/TE's, etc. The BSC refs ooze mediocrity and there is not a damn thing we can do about it.tetoncat wrote:I agree that the refing has been bad. Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Is face guarding illegal in college? I thought it was only illegal in the pros. In any case, I think the ball was underthrown and really not catchable by the receiver. I haven't seen a replay though so I could be wrong on that. But in any case, unless it's really criminal-I don't think there are very many refs that throw the interference flag in a situation like that.tetoncat wrote:I agree that the refing has been bad. HEYYYY! now theres a thought!grizband wrote:I think the BSC officials are horrible, and not just for one team. It seems to be bad for every team, every game. This is one reason I love the playoffs, we can't have Big Sky refs work the game.

I don't specifically know if there is a "faceguard" rule in college football, BUT Andre WAS trying to look back at the ball. My problem is that if Andre's play WAS PI, then there should have been about 10 others during the game as well.tetoncat wrote:I agree that the refing has been bad. How about the long one that Gatewood "caught" (I really don't think he had control as he went out of bounds) with the Weber defender CHOPPING his arms? The Fricking Field Judge was standing 5 Fricking Feet away and Fricking Failed to throw his Fricking Flag...
(All the F's are for the one on his back AND his grade on that play)

Interpretation of Illegal Contact and Pass Interference [Approved Ruling 7-3-8]
"A Team B player, defending against a legal forward pass beyond the neutral zone, has his back to the ball and is waving his arms in the face of an eligible player of Team A, who, in his attempt to catch the pass, bumps into the Team B player. RULING: Pass interference by the Team B player, first down. He was not making a bona fide attempt to catch or bat the pass."
On the last throw by Pizarro, the CB (was it Fuller?) wasn't actually waving his hands or arms in the face of the receiver. I saw some minor contact between both but nothing that really impeded the receiver from making the catch.
On the Gatewood play, there was definitely more contact by the Weber CB, but again, the Weber CB wasn't really waving his arms or hands in Rick's face - at least it didn't appear that way on t.v.
In both of the above cases, both CB's were making a bona fide attempt to bat the ball, I guess?

Plus, the ball was underthrown, which might have had some effect on the judgement of the ref, but who knows what to expect from these refs from play-to-play...Bleedinbluengold wrote:On the last throw by Pizarro, the CB (was it Fuller?) wasn't actually waving his hands or arms in the face of the receiver. On the Gatewood play, it doesn't matter if the Weber player was looking for the ball, he CHOPPED his left arm down & across Rick's. It would have been declined, obviously, but these idiot refs seem to think that negates their RESPONSIBILITY TO CALL A FOUL WHEN ONE OCCURS.
Remember the punt return when Murray signalled for the fair catch, then the Weber player bumped him, realized he couldn't do so, and then let up and grabbed Murray to keep him from going to the ground? THAT'S AN AUTOMATIC PENALTY REGARDLESS OF THE SEVERITY OF THE CONTACT. It took those morons about 10 seconds to throw the flag, AFTER they "chatted" about it a little bit. You could literally "feel" them thinking "Well, technically that's not legal, but he really didn't hit him very hard and he did grab him and keep him from going down, so I'm not going to call it...".
Absolutely ridiculous and inexcusable; that pretty much sums up Big Sky officiating EVERY week for EVERY team.

If you would like to send the Big Sky a nice little letter politely stating your feelings regarding the incompetence of their referees, feel free to use this link:

Make sure you mention Doug Toole (ironic, no?) who is the coordinator of football officials, and Doug Fullerton the Idiot.
