U of M Jeopardy question

Did anyone watch to Jeopardy tonight?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry -

The answer was "This city is the home of the University of Montana..." and the first question given was "What is Bozeman?" which made me want to cry - Bozeman accused of that

The second question was "What is Butte?" which made me want to laugh - two tries and the smart people on Jeopardy still couldn't come up with missoula

People out here are completely clueless about Montana. For some reason, most people seem to think Butte is the largest city, and a lot of people have never even heard of Billings.

The best, though, was when I was at a doctor's office when I was living in DC a couple years ago, and I was chatting with the nurse while I was filling out some paperwork. She grew up in Canada, but said she has been living in the U.S. for about ten years now. Anyway, she asked where I grew up, and I told her Montana, and she asked (seriously) "That's up in New England, right?"

In grade school we were taught that the capital of Montana was (pronounced) "Hel-LAY-nuh".

I'm just glad that surveying crew "drew" the Western boundary of the state on the wrong mountain range, as we were taught in Montana History. Montana would be just another Dakota or Wyoming if it ended at the Continental Divide, as was originally intended.

I just can't imagine living in Kalispell, Idaho...

Honest now. How many people outside of Montana have heard (or cares about for that matter) of Mazzola. However, virtually everyone from one end of the country to the other knows of and loves the area in and around Bozo

This is just too good to be true because it's just more of what I used to have to put up with when I lived in the South. Everybody knew I was from Montana and when they'd go to the Fizzlie games in Statesboro or Huntsville and watched how their following acted, they made that assumption I had to be one of them. Anyway, I found it pretty amusing

...and dUMb fans don't know how to act in public--they've even gone so far as to go to the heart of SEC country and mock the local population and ridicule them for not knowing they were playing in the "National Championship." Still can't understand where their condescending attitute comes from

Two points:

1. I assume you're referring to the obnoxious article that was written by the Missoulian when the Griz were in Chatty this past year, yes? I was embarassed by that article and agree that it was offensive and condescending, but do you really think it's fair to attribute an article written by one person to Griz fans at large? I think we both know that actual Griz fans who attend games in the south don't generally act like that (aside from the one or two drunken idiots that you'll find at any school).

2. I love that you put "National Championship" in quotes. I wonder if you do the same when referring to the Cats' three titles?

It's no wonder fans of I-A teams don't take I-AA seriously; apparently some of our own fans don't either.

Here in Minneapolis when I am asked where in Montana I am from I tell them; Hamilton which is just south of Missoula. About 75% know where I mean. When I say"I went to college in Bozeman" 100% know where I mean. Interesting considering Missoula is almost twice as big.
