Griz have Closed Practices
http://www.egriz.com/GrizBoard/viewtopic.php?t=10511
Apparently the Griz are not letting anyone watch them practice this week. I think this has to do with the QB issue, but Bobby is a mystery to all of us (including his bosses).

Re: Griz have Closed Practices
That's it!!! I am going to take the afternoon off. Put on all of my MSU gear, grab my camera with the big ass lense climb to the "M" and start shooting!!! THEN I will post all of my pictures of Washington and Cole on the ISU board. Look out Bobby I'm -a-comingmquast53000 wrote:http://www.egriz.com/GrizBoard/viewtopic.php?t=10511

Leave it to Bobby.
I raised this issue on egriz; does it really matter which QB will play vs ISU? Does Hauck really think Larry Lewis would be preparing his team any differently for Berquist than he would for Washington (who's currently the 6th or 7th rated QB in the Conference)?
Give me a break. The game plan won't be significantly different regardless of which Griz QB starts/plays. ISU's #1 priority on D will be Lex/Waller.
OR, is it just a ploy & Bobby has gotten Sampson & Hartman back on the team and is preparing to run the option again and doesn't want to tip off ISU???

The thing is on the local news Hauck is playing up what a great "running Quarterback" CB is and what a great "Throwing quarterback" JW is. Folks this is why the Billings Gazette predicts Hauck is ready for the big time. What a genius !!! He is using the injury to confuse ISU. WOW! By the time ISU figures this out it will be too, late! Do they prepare for the Griz High powered throwing offence or do they prepare for the Griz power option running game!........
.............. Wait is there a difference.

This has me scratching my head also. If i didn't have to work (you how busy Burger King gets in the afternoon
) I would be right up there w/Msla Cat. Unless the practice is to show off Clint Stapp and his new $1Billion bionic arm I don't get it. A lot of people have acused Bobby of being paranoid so this won't help squash that rumor.

It is a "head scratcher" because there really is no good reason other than a control freak mentality. If you have so little confidence in your backups, including the QB, that you have to come up with some special trickery than you really are in trouble.
If we lost Lulay right now it would be a HUGE blow but I wouldn't expect the offense to change completely, maybe keep it simple for a while but not change. I think Carpenter would be fine, he just needs some game time under his belt. I would expect more trouble with the speed of play calling, audibles, etc. than his performance. And they aren't replacing Travis Lulay - Washington has been okay at best - Cole can't really do much worse can he?

I posted a thread about this under the bobcat section also but, Bergquist has been looking really bad in practice, and in true Bobby Hauck fashion, instead of giving him coaching help, he is telling Cole that he needs to get better and stop sucking. I don't believe Hauck knows what constructive criticism and instead preaches along the lines of, stop being such a pu$$y and play like a man, hopefully Cole responds to this, for the Griz's sake.

cornbread, I hear differently on Berquist. I, in fact, hear he looked pretty darn good this week, from someone who actually would know.
That isn't saying he'll perform great in the game, but as long as he keeps his composure, I'm guessing he will do just fine on Sat. That is, if his WR actually help him out. Talmage will, but after that we are hurting for a playmaker.

I talked to three current players and one past player on this topic, not sure who you talked to. They said, and I quote "Hauck has been all over Cole, he isn't really coaching him, he's just yelling at him. Cole hasn't been looking real good though, but Hauck isn't really helping"JahGriz wrote:cornbread, I hear differently on Berquist. I'm sure opinions vary. But, Phenice not Hauck would be doing the yelling at the QB's. And is the guy at practices who is going ape isht, according to players. Also, I have heard, but can draw my own conclusions that Phenice prefers JW, for whatever reason, to Berquist and has not given him squat for a chance to start.
Look back at the chance Berquist was given in games, none, for all practical purposes.
So, I'd say this. Berquist will do fine, if he is allowed to, and not demeaned, and constantly yelled at by Phenice, who will be up in the box during the game.
I really think too much is blamed on Hauck, though if he wanted to do right by the players, Hauck would talk to Phenice about this.

No offence hayseed, but either you rarely talk to players, or the one time you did bobby happened to yell at berquist for something, or you are just full of it. You go ask these so called players who does most of the yelling at practice, and come back and tell us what they say. If they say Bobby, then either you or they are full of it. I talk to players every week, and Bobby isn't the name that normally comes up when they talk about yelling.
Phenice is the OC and the QB coach. Bobby works with the D and special teams. Sure Bobby is also the HC, and surely has yelled at nearly every player on the team for something or another. But one ass chewing does not mean anything.
