Worst sports announcer - period

Post by KGKat » Mon Sep 12, 2005 9:20 pm

Is it just me, or are there other people that might want to listen in on a Griz game on occasion, turn the radio over for about 30 seconds, and then have to change the station because of the announcers? I understand that they are the hometown announcers, but Gurnsey has got to have the worst attitude and sportsmanship I have ever heard.

After his comments about throwing at the Oregon coach, then wanting to take him out with a sweep, I about went ballistic. Nothing like explaining to your kids that the "professional" announcer is a poor sport, and don't do as he says! I can't believe that the Griz put up with his crap!

Actually, do get started, El Gato! This is one topic that I am 10000% in agreement with you, and you're a great spokesman for the cause. I love reading your posts on this topic.

That is my goal - I want to get people started! I don't mind them having BH - he is bad for them, so I like it! But I can't stand to listen to even parts of the game with the announcers. Hell, I even personally discussed this issue with Griz fans today and at least one said he won't listen to their games on the radio because of the announcers!

does this surprise you guys? gurnsey owns a double-wide trailer bar in missoula...not a real classy business. that guy is a tool and if it makes that stink bomb of a town worse, i am all for it.

Well, I know this much; you'd get the same performance if you roamed the stadium each week with a breath-alyzer and brought up the first washed-up 30-something who blew a .15 and handed him the mike.

Gurnsey's analysis is mediocre at best; anyone who's played/watched football for a couple of years could provide more insight into a play or a game than Gurnsey does.

Most of his time is spent on private jokes with his good buddy Mick (who I'm continually amazed doesn't try to upgrade his partner) or with his drunk "buds" who are listening and LTAO at his sophomoric attempts at humor; add to this HIS on-air obsession with the "kitty-cats", and you've now got about 75% of Gurns' "schtick". The rest of his time is spent congratulating the Griz for a BIG play, whether it was or not, or downplaying/belittling the other teams players, coaches, and fans. (Speaking of kitties; MAYBE BEARBAC IS GURNS?!!? I'M NOT KIDDING!! I BET I JUST CRACKED THE CASE!!)

The fun REALLY begins, however, when the Griz are getting or have gotten beat. There has never been a poorer loser on the planet than Gurns, and that's saying something considering he's in the same town as Beavis. 2 of my favorites (although that list is long) are his verbal assault, caught by his own microphone, on the ISU P.A. announcer ("That's f#!@ing bush league! Shut the f#!@ up!") and his lecture to PSU players on how to win with class (now THAT one had me ROFLMFAO).

All in all, however, it will be fun to listen to him this season, as I suspect the Griz will lose at least 3 more games; no doubt Gurns will give me a whole new list of his boorish tyrades on November 19...

In all seriousness, however, this guy is the lowest form of griz fan out there, and this is the guy the Griz have representing him on the air. It's really sickening when you consider how much effort and sweat it's taken over the years to build Griz football into the power that it is today, only to put the most unprofessional, arrogant, and childish dink in Missoula on the air, representing your school & your team in the worst light possible. The real unfortunate part is that there is no doubt a former player and/or Griz follower who'd do a much better job if given the chance. Any of you griz reading this who knows Mick, it's really time you guys advise him that he needs to give someone else a chance, preferably someone with a brain.

Wholeheartedly agree with all posters; however, some of us need to contact Fields and let him know that we're sinking to that level if we continue to allow our stadium announcer his jollies  I make no attempts whatsoever to associate with Fizzlie byproducts and avoid them at all costs and try to share my disdain with them only with fellow Cats. Even go so far as to explain to parents with the lame response that "I've got one that went to MSU and one that went to Mazzola" that evidently you have one logical, well mannered kid and another that you can't shut up and is kind of out of control.

The Cats are just bitter because not only does Gurns burn them on the radio, but years ago he torched their defense on the field too

Wrong. Still have his autographed ball from a 1994 playoff game.

Still remember his TD in the `94 Griz-Cat game in Missoula in front of the "visitor" section near the north endzone.

Those guys make my blood boil (which, I guess, is good if you're a griz). Listening to them is so sweet, though when they have to eat crow 'cause the 'good guy's' (can ya be any less original?) are gettin' their tales whupped.

I've given serious consideration to taping Holien and sending it to Dan Patrick for DP's "homer call of the week" on ESPN radio. NOBODY is a better homer than Holien.

Exactly what I was thinking. I didn't cringe at all. In fact they both pointed out that the Griz clearly interfered with the guy on 4th down.

I don't mind Mick but Gurnsey is a joke. If I remember correctly, when we were playing the university during Kramers first year, Gurnsey flat out said the Cats suck..Boy was I pissed and lost even more respect for the Griz and their program. Yes the Cats didn't win a game that year but they played with a lot of heart. Anyways I did write Hogan and he did reply saying broadcasters were out of their control...
