The Cats look as good as I've seen them in weeks. And as you say, gotta like the effort.

Re: Weber
Very flat in the first half. The events of the last week really weighed on them I think.
Huse's starting lineup was Dison, Moon, Reid, Allou, and Johnson. That sure didn't work. Allou is still very bothered by a bruised right elbow. He's just not effective offensively with the injury.
Reid had a career night-great shooting and 31 points. But Moon goes 0-9 from downtown and Budnich goes 0-for whatever in his 22 minutes. Why can't this team get it through their heads that it's okay for more than one guy to be hot at the same time? Moon's shot just looks awful-even in warmups he was clanking them-same with Budnich. It just boggles the mind-the weird things that happen with this team. Moon has been a 40+% three point shooter his whole college career-and he goes 0-9? It's almost supernatural!
Love the comeback. They showed a lot of heart. This team does try hard. But there's just so many holes in their game.
Weber won't scare anybody walking through the airport. They're not particularly big or particularly athletic (except for Lilliard). But they run their stuff well and hit shots when they're open. They also make their free throws. I think pound for pound Montana is more talented-but Weber blew them out in Ogden so go figure. I think the griz win it in Missoula though.

Re: Weber
like i said, i loved the effort last night. down by almost 20 at the half...they could have just packed it in and they didn't. reid had his best shooting perfomance as a bobcat but had very little help. he also turned the ball over like 6 or 7 times which he needs to clean up.
only losing by 9 after being killed from the get-go was good i thought. especially since moon and budinich couldn't throw it in the ocean. think they were 0-16 combined from three and 2-20 overall!
yikes. we make some shots and we're right in the mix. just can't believe what a poor shooting team this is....especially at home.
as for weber, i just haven't come away as impressed with them as the griz. i think the big sky goes through missoula, and i think once again we cat fans will have to suffer through watching yet another griz team represent in the national tourney. apparently it can be done in the state of montana as the griz seem to be there every other year or so.....we just need to figure out the secret.
love the effort guys. just keep playing hard and hopefully the shots start falling. we shoot even a respectable percentage and we can play with anyone in this league....

Re: Weber
Not to be overly pessimistic, but it's not like we're just in a collective shooting slump, which would give us hope that we could snap out of it at any time. We've just not a good shooting team. We've shot poorly all season, and it seems unlikely that our shots will suddenly start falling in the final three games, after not being able to throw it in the ocean for the first 25 games. Our lack of shooting ability is precisely what is so frustrating to me about watching MBB under Huse. Durham's teams could always shoot the ball. It seems like we were always at or near the top of the BSC in overall FG % and 3-pt. %. His teams normally had some other deficiencies, particularly rebounding, but they could at least make shots. Now we're perennially at or near the bottom of the league shooting stats.ilovethecats wrote:like i said, i loved the effort last night. down by almost 20 at the half...they could have just packed it in and they didn't. reid had his best shooting perfomance as a bobcat but had very little help. he also turned the ball over like 6 or 7 times which he needs to clean up.

Re: Weber
oh i agree completely and have been beating this drum for some time. it's actually quite baffling how poor of a shooting team we are. my point is that of all the things a college team can be really bad at....i think shooting is pretty easily fixable. especially when they are guys who i KNOW can shoot. pop in a practice sometimes and you'll see moon burry 20 in a row. i've seen reed get it going too. and budinich and singleton too. i'm just saying, it's not like we field 10 guys who have never shot a ball before. they have shot and made thousands over the years so i know it can be done. that's why i said even if we can shoot a decent percentage, we can play with anyone in this league and i believe that. when a team shoots a percentage of the high 20's through low 40's.....they're gonna have a hard time winning games. but if we could even shoot mid to high 40's, or dare i say low 50's we'd be in a lot of games and have a chance to win them all. in all of our wins we have shot around 50% so i know it can be done. in our latest six game skid, we haven't come close to that. usually in the 30's. 3 point percentage has been atrocious with three games shooting less than 15%!John K wrote: Not to be overly pessimistic, but it's not like we're just in a collective shooting slump, which would give us hope that we could snap out of it at any time. i just mean to say that if we could even shoot 30% from deep and 45% from the field we could win some games. we play good defense for the most part and don't give up easy points. but shooting has just killed us.

Re: Weber
Hasn't that sort of been a trend under Huse though....shooting much worse during the 2nd half of the conference season, than in the 1st half? Do our guys suddenly forget how to shoot once we get into the 2nd round of conference play? Do teams learn how to defend our offense better, so that we aren't getting as many good shots the 2nd time around? I don't know the answers, but it's just baffling to me that we totally collapse during the 2nd half of conference play, year after year after year. It's like a movie that I'm seeing for the 6th time. I know how it's going to end, but I can't help but hope that somehow it will have a better ending this time. 6-2 in the 1st half, 1-7 in the 2nd half, lose in the 1st round of the tourney. I could make a lot money taking bets on that prediction at the beginning of every season.ilovethecats wrote:oh i agree completely and have been beating this drum for some time. it's actually quite baffling how poor of a shooting team we are. my point is that of all the things a college team can be really bad at....i think shooting is pretty easily fixable. especially when they are guys who i KNOW can shoot. pop in a practice sometimes and you'll see moon burry 20 in a row. i've seen reed get it going too. and budinich and singleton too. i'm just saying, it's not like we field 10 guys who have never shot a ball before. they have shot and made thousands over the years so i know it can be done. that's why i said even if we can shoot a decent percentage, we can play with anyone in this league and i believe that. when a team shoots a percentage of the high 20's through low 40's.....they're gonna have a hard time winning games. but if we could even shoot mid to high 40's, or dare i say low 50's we'd be in a lot of games and have a chance to win them all. in all of our wins we have shot around 50% so i know it can be done. in our latest six game skid, we haven't come close to that. usually in the 30's. 3 point percentage has been atrocious with three games shooting less than 15%!John K wrote: Not to be overly pessimistic, but it's not like we're just in a collective shooting slump, which would give us hope that we could snap out of it at any time. Re: Weber
it has been...which is why i believe huse is on the chopping block. personally, i think they should have let him go last year because we had the experience needed on that team to compete much better than we did. after we retained him, i told myself that i wasn't going to judge him on this years performance because anyone paying attention knew this was going to be a very difficult year. we have new juco gys trying to mesh together, returning players with little experience, young guys forced into action, and minimal leadership at any position. so i think huse gets a pass for our struggles this season even though they are par for the course. we should have let him go last year. i think he needs to "shock" the league next year to keep his job. i don't just mean flirting with .500, playing well before xmas, and making the big sky tourney that includes SEVEN teams. i mean, he should have to be 1 or 2 in the league. we need to win a lot of games, and a lot of them need to come AFTER xmas break.John K wrote: Hasn't that sort of been a trend under Huse though....shooting much worse during the 2nd half of the conference season, than in the 1st half? and he needs to show he can recruit. coming in i knew that was his weakness but i just wasn't sure how bad. it appears....pretty bad. we haven't had a pure shooter since he's been here. we have yet to have a legitimate big man. and for some reason he thinks so low of this league that he thinks we can get by with 5'8" point gaurds who turn the ball over regularly. other teams in the league have other ideas!
bobcat hoops have been rough for some time....but i can't recall a time where there was so much dissatisfaction with this program.

They've been wearing the gold unis for most of the season. I hope it's a permanent change. I like them a lot. Maybe just use white for Cat-Griz.
