Hey, do any of you have a Bobcat media guide? NDSU's media guide says that NDSU is 12-22 against Montana State. NDSU's press release says 13-19 (which is what I think Montana State's records show). I've been trying to figure out where the discrepancy is coming from. All I've been able to do so far is figure out that two of the losses NDSU has in the media guide were really to Montana. That's still 12-20 though - not 13-19.
Here are the games that I have:
1914 L 0-18
1922 W 54-0
1927 L 0-22
1929 L 0-6
1939 W 16-14
1940 L 0-7
1946 L 18-39
1948 L 0-33
1949 L 7-28
1950 W 27-0
1957 L 6-27
1958 L 20-33
1959 L 12-24
1960 L 14-26
1961 L 0-35
1962 L 2-37
1964 W 7-0
1965 W 14-7
1966 W 35-23
1967 W 24-6
1970 W 30-8
1971 W 28-12
1972 L 24-27
1973 W 34-17
1974 L 14-34
1975 W 13-6
1976 L 7-34
1976 L 3-10
1977 L 17-24
1978 L 18-28
1979 W 21-7
1980 L 19-21
12 wins, 20 losses
It's asking a lot, but can somebody with a Bobcat media guide figure out where the error is?

Too bad we can't get something like that from our sports information department. It is detailed. It also shows how their Northwestern Game was very similar to our cal poly. The stats are close but the score is a blowout. The deciding factor "turnovers". Stop them and I think we win.

As noted by others in another thread it often has out-dated info as it appears the SID staff doesn't have the time/resources to keep it properly updated for each game.

Holy cow, CelticCat, thanks for the help. Someday, as the Flying Spaghetti Monster is my witness I'll figure out the exact records!
BTW, every time NDSU fans have said, "Look how big our line is compared to theirs," our team has gotten spanked -and- that is a heck of a press release by Montana State (looked pretty up-to-date to me).

Our weights aren't exactly accurate. The average is incorrect if you look at the numbers, plus I think some of the listed weights are sand-bagged. (NG Saucedo for example is at least 330). Realistically we probably average around 290 on the OL.Green-N-Gold wrote:Interesting to see the size difference in OL:

Actually the new press release on the MSU web site (page 12) shows our OL at 285 (which is probably right) and NDSU as 305 which seems to match.catatac wrote:Our weights aren't exactly accurate. You have to remember, Lou is a DL (not OL) our DL is listed as 290 (brought up by Sweet Lou's presence).

So their OL out weighs our DL by 15 pounds.

Interesting that it is the same difference??

I always take offensive line weights with the same grain of salt that I take MSU basketball coach Mick Durham's height measurements. He'll probably have Nick Dissly up to 6'8" this year.
Mike Kramer's offensive lines always seemed smallish when he was at Eastern Washington too-then you saw them take the field. I think there's still a few of those guys playing in the NFL.
Now for a small o-line-just check out Cal Poly. They're postively skinny by today's standards. It sure didn't bother them.

Cool your jets partner. I was just making an observation. I made no comments about it good bad or otherwise!amsterbison wrote: BTW, every time NDSU fans have said, "Look how big our line is compared to theirs," our team has gotten spanked -and- that is a heck of a press release by Montana State (looked pretty up-to-date to me).

This day & age, a 15 lb differential is not significant.
Mathematically speaking, it means their average O-lineman is 5% HEAVIER than our average D-lineman; that's not enough to mean anything. When the Griz played Ft. Lewis High, they outweighed their opposite line by an average of nearly 60 lbs per man; now THAT'S a significant advantage.
SFA's guys were big, that didn't make them good. Oregon's D-line is HUGE and solid against the run but struggles with pass-rush.
I think the Niners & Broncos proved a long time ago that agility & skill are every bit as valuable as pure size & strength.
NDSU's line MAY BE very good, but they won't have any advantage due strictly to size differentials...

Once you stand up to a solid Div I A school (OSU) against their OL and DL, there should not be a concern purely due to size. We'll even give NDSU a special county live stock ribbon for their OL size and they should be pround of that ribbon.
What will matter is who shows up to play. It should be a very good game.
