For World Cuisine, try these: It's Greek To Me, Bay Bar and Grille, Mongolian BBQ, Cafe Zydeco (cajun), Chinatown Restaurant, I-Ho's Korean Grill, and RainBobcatLionFan(edited by grizzh8r) wrote:I'll give you my 2 cents.
Place to stay?
There are no hotels within a couple of miles of the stadium.
But it's easy to get to the stadium from any hotel in Bozeman.
We stay at the Wingate, but doubt if they have any rooms on game weekends.
Best Western GranTree Inn is popular, but again probably no rooms
Fairfield Inn by Marriott is clean, but should hurry on that one.
Ramada Limited is near the highway and about $80(and has a water slide). It's OK
Bozeman Inn - Right on N 7th ave. and has Santa Fe Reds connected to it, a great Mexican restaurant, with Famous Daves and Applebee's w/in a block's walk
On food
BBQ I like Famous Daves and Bar 3 (both on 7th)
Italian I like Johnny Carinos (19th street by Costco and highway), also try Ferraros, more expensive though (N. 7th)
Steak - Livingston(Rib and) Chop House (27 miles east and worth the drive)
2nd choice Sir Scott's Oasis Steakhouse (Manhatten) OK, but ....
Burgers - Burger Bobs (like Fuddruckers but better) on main, Bennigans Irish Pub - great burgers and the like (N. 19th)
Pizza - Old Chicago (19th) and MacKenzie River Pizza (Main) are both good.
Pickel Barrel for great Subs (by the School) And in the Rocking R Bar, on Main
Breakfast - Perkins, Country Corner Cafe (four corners, take Huffine lane), Main Street Overeast (but will have a wait)
Bengal fan? McDonalds on Mainstreet serves a great dinner (just kidding), they have UM cups that are not moving very fast.

Now you guys have ME curious.
When I'm in town, if it's 2 nights, the folks and their friends like to go to the Bay, so I tag along. The other night, I generally either do PB in the room or at the R Bar.
But I LOVE Mongolian grills; is the Mongolian BBQ a buffet style? Or just order from the menu?
And, is it any good? Keep in mind that I like food that bites back!

I've never been to the Livingston Chop House -- does anyone happen to know if they serve prime rib? If they do, I might check it out.BobcatLionFan wrote:I'll give you my 2 cents.
Steak - Livingston Chop house (35 miles and worth the drive)
2nd choice Sir Scott's Oasis Steakhouse (Manhatten) OK, but ....
I ask because prime rib is my favorite meal, and a lot of "true" steakhouses don't serve it (because it's not technically a steak). Sir Scott's is the best prime rib I've ever had anywhere (with the *possible* exception of The Prime Rib in Washington, DC, but for literally about four times the price), so when I'm in Montana I always go there once, but next time I may be tempted to drive the extra 40 miles to Livingston if people say it's better.
I work as an attorney so that I can afford good scotch, which helps me to forget that I work as an attorney.

They do serve Prime Rib. It is pretty good, not as good as their steaks, but very good. The Rib and Chop is worth the drive from anywhere, it is that good!!!Grizlaw wrote:I've never been to the Livingston Chop House -- does anyone happen to know if they serve prime rib? Mongolian BBQ is delicious. They have a whole bar set up of toppings, you throw it all in a bowl (stuff it way over the topEl_Gato wrote:Now you guys have ME curious.

You can make it bite plenty if you want.
Noodles, squid, crab, shrimp, baby carrots, red peppers, orange sauce, cooked garlic, and hot sauce = mmmmmm.

And a secret when you are there....skip the noodles as they are first at the bar, load up your bowl with meats and veggies, then go back and pile your noodles on top in a heaping pile. You can get way more food in a bowl if you do this.CelticCat wrote:Mongolian BBQ is delicious. You have to go with the local places in Bozeman. You can find Famous Dave's and Johnny Carino's anywhere.BobcatLionFan wrote:I'll give you my 2 cents.

I suggest Montana Ale Works, MacKenzie River Pizza, Santa Fe Red's, Burger Bob's, The Bistro, Rib and Chop House (in Livingston), Oasis (Manhattan), Louie's Down Under/Jadra's Sushi.
Breakfast....You have to go with Main Street Over Easy OR The Cat Eye Cafe. Wheat Montana on 19th isn't a bad choice either.
As for hotels, there isn't really anything super close to the stadium. The nicest places are probably the Wingate or the Hampton, or if you're looking for a place with food and drinks, I would probably look at Holiday Inn or the Grand Tree.

I would say that the Rib and Chop house is my favorite eatery in Montana.

Well, you have to understand that Famous Daves and Johnny Corninas are not really everywhere. They have not actually been places where I have been (which is a good number of places). Possible the ISU people may not not them close to them either. And Bar 3 is very good.
The best of all the eating places is Livingston Chop House to me. It is actually on par with the better Steakhouses in the country. But if you don't have reservations that weekend, forget about it. You will not get a table because so many others think it is OK also.
Great choices are given, but I will still probably just just go to the places I have listed and suffer through with the good food that isn't purely local in some cases.
I tried to give a list that was by type so if they like BBQ or Subs or ??? they have a choice. I tend to like steaks and BBQ, so it tend to point people in those directions.
As for the breakfast, Perkens is everywhere, but I just like their Eggs Benidict (sp). They do it fairly well for a chain. But as I said, you will have a 30+ minute wait becaue there are so many other people likeing it. Going to your suggestions will probably be a shorter wait which has it's merits.
They can not go wrong with any.

We ate there last weekend and I thnk they did have Prime Rib. They have Steaks, Ribs, Seafood, and I think some other things at times (i.e. Buffalo, ....). You can call if you are interested ((406) 222-9200). You will need reservations. I tend to get their Rib Eye (prime). Their Filet is my wife's choice. They serve it on a super hot plate with butter melted on it, very similiar to Ruth Chris style and taste. I actually like it better and 1/2 the price.rtb wrote:They do serve Prime Rib. It is the pricest of the resterants listed (about $24 or 25 for the special Rib Eye, but less for the standard cuts).
I have gone to Sir Oasis, but I thought the steak I had wasn't quite as nice, possibly more meat, but not as quality. But their Prime Rib might be excellent. We took several football players with us as a treat after the game (kids that didn't have any parents at that game) and wanted some appetizers, which Sir Oasis didn't have (which also probably give us a slightly negative feeling).

Belgradebobcat,
You are probably as aware as I am about the problems centered around the city commission and construction in Bozeman. Heck, we can't even get approval of projects that meet zoning requirements much less change them to accommodate a hotel in that area of town. My lord what would the neighbors up there think of all of that extra traffic that would be generated?

Come on by and have a brew or few before the game. I plan on getting to Bozo Thursday night and stay in the area allowed for R.V.s. Shouldn't be too hard to find; be the one with the two vehicles with Montana State license plates and a trailer with a #7 license plate, kids dressed top to bottom with MSU clothing and a gas grill fired up all day Friday so I can concentrate on drinking Saturday morning.

Do you happen to remember which steak you ordered? I'm guessing it was the porterhouse; am I right?BobcatLionFan wrote:I have gone to Sir Oasis, but I thought the steak I had wasn't quite as nice, possibly more meat, but not as quality. Sir Scott's is my favorite restaurant in Montana (so far), but there's one thing about it that everyone I've talked to agrees on: DO NOT order the porterhouse. A lot of people get it just because it's their largest steak, but it just doesn't have much flavor. I had a bite of my friend's, and it wasn't that good -- and other people I've talked to have had the same experience with that particular steak. However, their prime rib is excellent, and I've also had their New York and a couple of their other steaks, which were all also very good.
You've got me curious about the Livingston Chop House, though. I'll try to make it over there the next time I'm in Montana.

When going to the Rib and Chop house, I always tell myself that I'm going to order something different but at the last second I balk and order a half rack of ribs.....honestly the best ribs I have ever had! I have also heard that Willow Creek has fantastic ribs too, it's about a 45 minute drive, but definiately worth it in the end! You've got me curious about the Livingston Chop House, though. I'll try to make it over there the next time I'm in Montana.
