Need Help - hotels and restaurants in Bozeman

Post by CagedBengal » Wed Sep 14, 2005 11:20 am

Bengal fan coming up for the game on the 1st of October. Were is a good place to stay that is fairly close to the stadium and in fairly good shape. Also, were's a good place to eat in Bozeman? We'll accept any offers for tailgates as well.

I'll give you my 2 cents.

Place to stay?
There are no hotels within a couple of miles of the stadium.
But it's easy to get to the stadium from any hotel in Bozeman.
We stay at the Wingate, but doubt if they have any rooms on game weekends.
Best Western GranTree Inn is popular, but again probably no rooms
Fairfield Inn by Marriott is clean, but should hurry on that one.
Ramada Limited is near the highway and about $80. It's OK

On food
BBQ I like Famous Daves and Bar 3 (both on 7th)
Italian I like John Corinas (19th street by Costco and highway)
Steak - Livingston Chop house (35 miles and worth the drive)
2nd choice Sir Scott's Oasis Steakhouse (Manhatten) OK, but ....
Pizza - Old Chicago (19th) and McKenzee Pizza (Main) are both good.
Pickel Barrel for great Subs (by the School)
Breakfast - Perkins (but will have a wait)
Bengal fan? McDonalds on Mainstreet serves a great dinner (just kidding), they have UM cups that are not moving very fast.

You could try http://www.bozemanonline.com for some ideas. I would suggest that you get a room reserved soon however as that game is Homecoming for MSU and the town gets pretty booked up.

That weekend, the Wingate is full, I am positive of that because I work there.

As for somewhere else, you could try the Holiday Inn, the Grantree, the Comfort, or the Best Western City Center.

As for eating, if you are looking for somewhere great you can try The Bay, Montana Ale Works, Boodles, Ferraro's, The Mint, Sir Scott's Oasis, or even Outback Steakhouse right across the street from the Wingate. I would recommend the others before Outback.

Yep in the middle of a construction zone with not nearly enough parking. That place is a frickin mess.

That is true, it is a mess there. JTL has absolutely killed that area. I have never seen such dysfunction over such a long period of time.

But don't they stop work on the area for the weekend and it's fairly reasonable for Saturday and Sunday?

Yes they do, but the mess remains.

Most of the rooms for Homecoming are gone but the hotels in Belgrade (8 miles away) may have rooms. Try the Holiday Inn Express or the SUper Eight.

Or LaQuinta Inn and Suites.

I'm going to have to vote for the Montana Ale Works for best food and outstanding atmosphere. You won't be disappointed. Best burgers in Bozeman by far and away.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize we are playing you for homecoming. Are the MSU fans better or worse to opposing fans than UM? Give me a real, non-bias answer. I know there is no love loss between you and the Griz.

I can't really say as I have never been to Wa. Griz for something besides Cat/Griz which is a whole different ballgame.

I will say if you stop by my tailgate you may take some good-natured razzing, but you will also get some food and a beer.

I know that the opponents the Griz despise second to the Cats is the Bengals. Being a student I never get the opportunity to talk with opposing fans, so I really don't know. I can tell you that the rivarly between ISU and MSU isn't as bad as ISU/UM.

THere are definate idiots on both sides, but I tailgated with a bunch of Easter Washington fans last year and they couldn't believe how much "more fun friendly and good natured" MSU fans where. Even after a devastating loss.

Just one case that I know of personally.

At the risk of highjacking this thread...Why aren't there any hotels/motels within walking distance of MSU. We must be one of the only State Universities in the nation with this affliction.

I would think a nice hotel on Kagy somewhere would be a license to print money. You have Valley View golf course, the Museum of the Rockies, and MSU pretty much within walking distance.

Maybe the City should rezone Greek Way to allow for motels-it sure hasn't taken off as a frat row.

Pretty much if you don't rent a car whilst traveling to Bozeman-you're screwed. All the motels have airport shuttles, but that's not going to get you anywhere else.

I know MSU has been in discussions regarding an on campus or near campus hotel. I suggested to P. Fields that they should build the hotel around the Football Stadium and bowl the end zone in as part of the construction.
