Bobcats/BSC score prediction contest

Post by MSU01 » Tue Sep 13, 2005 9:41 am

Since we always have score prediction threads for every game, I thought it might be fun to turn it into a bit of a competition to see who is best at it. If nobody else agrees, this will be down on Page 8 by next week, never to be seen again.

The contest is, of course, to predict the scores of MSU and/or Big Sky games as closely as possible. I'll create two different sets of standings, one for MSU games only and one for all Big Sky games.

Scoring: Here's the scoring method I came up with. You get 1 "point" for every point you are off in your prediction of each team's score, as well as the margin of victory. For example, if you had predicted a 35-20 MSU win for the SFA game, you would have gotten 7 points for the MSU score, 14 points for the SFA score, and 21 points for the margin of victory, for a total score of 42. Then, so we can make it that the highest score wins, I'll subtract the score from 100, so your final score for the game would have been 100-42=56.

Other scoring examples:

1) You pick MSU 31 Opponent 3. Actual Score MSU 31 Opponent 7

Your score is 100 - [0 (MSU) + 4 (Opponent) + 4 (Margin)] = 100 - 8 = 92.

2) You pick MSU 28 Opponent 14. Actual Score Opponent 21 MSU 17

Your score is 100 - [11 (MSU) + 7 (Opponent) + 18 (Margin)] = 100 - 36 = 64.

I'll do all the score calculations and post the standings each week, so all you have to do is post your predictions. You can choose whether to predict only the MSU game, or all Big Sky games for that week. Note: If you pick the Big Sky games, you'll still be included in the MSU only standings as well as the Big Sky standings. Deadlines for each week will be Noon Mountain Time for the Big Sky predictions, and kickoff of the MSU game for the MSU only contest. If you want to change your predictions before the deadline, please do so by editing your original post, not by creating a new post, as it will get confusing if one person has multiple prediction posts for a given week.

This week's games:

MSU @ Cal Poly

South Dakota St. @ Montana
UM-Western @ Idaho St.
Southern Utah @ NAU
Weber St. @ North Dakota St.
Western Oregon @ EWU
Sacramento St. @ Portland St.

Cool, this should be a snap since moderator edits no longer post the date/time of the edit.

I was actually looking around websites to find a free pool creator so we could do just that. I wasn't able to find any, though I didn't spend too long looking.

There is a pick em contest run by GGG over at egriz that plenty of Cats and Griz are on.

UM is playing South Dakota State this week. The Cats have NDSU next week.

Cool, just didn't know if you new and if it would affect your pick.

Montana State- 38
Cal Poly- 14

Southern Utah- 17
Northern Arizona- 27

Sacramento State- 14

Weber State- 21
North Dakota State- 24

Western Oregon- 10
Eeastern Washington- 41

Montana (Western)- 13

I guess you can probably see my upset pick of the week. I just believe that the Montana offense can put it together and SDSU is underrated.
